First visit for over 2 years, and since a very welcome refurbishment. I appreciate the comments of customers via booking websites who felt they were misled but, if you can see beyond this, Claridge House is quite a special place. I am not a vegetarian but more than happy to eat vegetarian food and I felt that the extensive continental...

We are delighted that you had an enjoyable stay after the refurbishments and enjoyed the tranquil atmosphere. We have now resolved the issue with the room locks and every room is lockable. We look forward to welcoming you back to Claridge House in the near future. Kind Regards, Kath Russell

Come here for a break away from noise, hustle, deadlines etc. This is a Quaker guest house (not that you'd notice the Quaker influence unless you were looking) ideal for a retreat or quiet break. It is not really an hotel, though the search engines class it as a hotel. Our room had a recently made-over en suite bathroom with...

We stayed just one night in this quirky, slightly old-fashioned guesthouse, where we were made so welcome we are determined to return. I loved the selection of comfortable public rooms, with high back chairs, books and CDs, games & puzzles, and thankfully no televisions. our bedroom was immaculately clean, with an ensuite bathroom newly refurbished to a high standard. All...

I stayed here with some walking friends. It has been recently refurbished to a high standard. it is mainly a retreat house where locks on the doors are not necessary and the lack of televisions is a definite advantage. We took part in the twice daily silent meditation sessions, just fifteen minutes to sit and recharge your batteries. I was...

My husband and I came here to celebrate our 35th anniversary. However this really is not suitable for this purpose. There are no locks on the bedroom doors and breakfast is just fruit toast and cereal. The main gripe is the rooms are NOT cleaned on a daily basis and although we stayed four nights the room was only cleaned...

We booked with booking .com and at no point does it say this is a Quaker meeting place. We are not Quakers if honest we did not realise it was a Quaker house retreat until the morning when we noticed leaflets and no cooked breakfast! As the establishment is vegetarian which was great for me as I am a veggie...

You need to understand what Claridge House is about if you are staying here. I am not a Quaker but had stayed here years ago for a personal retreat and wanted to go somewhere for a few days so that I could relax and get away from day to day life. I stayed as a B&B guest and not as...

My husband and I booked this through booking dot com and it gave no mention to it being a Quaker house. The down sides were: no locks on any bedroom door, no bin in the room, we booked a double but got two twin beds pushed together but they didn't meet in the middle due to frame work, no milk...

Dear Emma, Thank you for choosing Claridge House and thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. I was very sorry to learn that your stay with us was unsatisfactory. We re-opened our doors on the 1st August after an extensive refurbishment programme and unfortunately we have had teething problems. Thank you for bringing these issues...

I stayed at Claridge House as part of a weekend retreat. It was peaceful, calming, comfortable and homely and the food was excellent. The bedrooms were spacious and bright. The gardens were pretty. I was slightly sad to leave after the wekend and return to the hustle and bustle but I left feeling rested.

I have been coming to Claridge House for over 20 years. Although it has changed little in that time it provides consistently good hospitality and quiet sanctuary from the busyness of the outside world. As other reviewers have indicated the vegetarian foods is superb. The cooks are always experimenting and shatter any illusions that vegetarian food is boring. It is...
