I started to wonder slightly when we drew up at the hotel with a steampunk sheep covered with old spark-plugs to one side of us, and a milk float the other - the 1950's / 60's style of float those older amongst us may remember limping back to the dairy on the last few amps left in the batteries. The building had a slightly shabby chic-cum-rustic sense about it. The Boss went to check in while I parked the car, reflecting as I did that Once in and safely upstairs in our room we took in our surroundings - the Music Room. Music themed, of course, Found to my surprise an immediate smile on my face. It's clever decor; cleverly done and cleverly thought through........ with generous quantities of tea, coffee and water to hand. Lovely touch with the vintage Roberts DAB radio playing Classic FM in the corner. Even if Classic FM isn't your thing, just leave it be for a few minutes. Really! Oh, and then I found the bathroom. I'll not spoil the surprise; suffice to say it's original and will increase the smile factor. (Just before I forget, though - careful with that shower, Eugene. it's an 1800mm shower tray so it's excellent -- but once it gets wet and soapy be careful or you could find your brains hanging from the shower tap..... Sorry to be a spoilsport ;-) ). Gin Bar, snug, dining room all great. Comfortable. Staff fabulous. Food - hot, beautifully prepared and delicious - I was massively impressed by the roasted tomato and red pepper soup (just to pick on one dish) and have been trying to reproduce it since we got home, but I'm trailing very sadly in the wake of your excellent chef and kitchen. Loved it. Sorry to leave so soon.…
We stayed for 2 nights with our Spaniel during the January frosts. The hotel was warm, comfortable and welcoming and the staff in all areas were helpful and happy in their work which made for a very relaxed stay. Our room was large, extremely clean and warm. The bed was super-size and very comfortable. I enjoyed using the pool which is a fair size and in a lovely setting. We will return!
Great stay - place seemed empty (in a good way) even when it was full! Gin bar is fantastic and the food is very good. I've stayed in other similar places, but this seemed less forced and just nicer. Less hipsters and braying "down from London" types. It's low-key but actually a very attractive place. The pool is an example - perfect size, not full of lane swimmers, just very relaxed. Only down-side - the lovely looking open fires were unlit.Oh, and also a huge Wiltshire skid-mark, in our bog. I'm a Wiltshire "shireman" but even I couldn't have produced the meaty aroma this left - though quickly banished by some impulse air-spray!
Can I give more than 5/5? Wonderful character, superb facilities and top class food. How can this possibly be rated 3 star? Room was wonderful, quirky and sun with superking bed, lovely huge bathroom. The gin bar is amazing with knowledgeable staff and the chef is first class
We hired the whole of Widbrook Grange for our wedding in December 2021. Everything about the venue was wonderful!! The rooms were excellent, the staff absolutely amazing, the food delicious. All the guests said they have a brilliant time and I believe a large part of that was the venue being so brilliant. Special mention to Claire (the events organiser) who worked so hard since we first chose Widbrook Grange as our venue and made the day go so well. THANK YOU!!
