Stayed for 3 nights following a trip to the Cotswolds. When we arrived, we were greeted very warmly, our lurcher gt a great deal of attention. We were shown to the vernon suite. It was just like an apartment, massive bed, spa bath, full kitchen facilities. Very clean, comfortable. The old house oozes character, a great stay.

Such a good place to stay. Stayed for two nights and it was perfect. Martin and the lady who was there when we left were helpful, polite, kind and very friendly. Would definitely recommend this place to stay. Location is central too and very peaceful.

The reason this "hotel" is different is that there is no reception , dining room or bar and basically you just have a room in this old hall. Having said that the room we had - the Penthouse Suite was lovely. Spotlessly clean with lovely views over Bakewell. Had a bath in the room which is quite the in thing these days. The bathroom was fine with a walk in shower. Bed was very comfortable. If you want breakfast it can be done and you need to prebook and it is brought to your room. We had the continental which was fine plenty of choice. There is a large sitting room downstairs which guests can sit in and relax if you want to be away from your room. Really liked the decor and it was in keeping with such an old building. The hotel is a very short walk from the centre of Bakewell literally down some steps. There is parking which is apparently sufficient for the number of guests. Worth a stay.

We stayed for four nights in one of the ground floor rooms overlooking the terrace garden, Bakewell and the surrounding hills. Delightful! The room was spacious and comfortable. The small kitchenette was good for preparing a simple breakfast and for consuming take away meals. The hotel is a five minute (fairly steep) walk from the town centre. A few niggles for which a star has been lost. On our arrival the car park was full. We were shown to an overflow area a little way away which was not particularly convenient. There was a two foot gap between the top of the bathroom wall and the ceiling. I notice from a previous comment that this is to protect the cornices in this listed building. I feel that a much better solution could have been found. From a privacy point of view, the current arrangement is most unsatisfactory. My biggest gripe though is the lack of daily room service. According to a note in the room this is due to an on-going covid situation. Odd, as there are no other restrictions and neither of the two staff I saw were wearing masks. Cost saving I suspect which parts of the UK hospitality industry are embracing with glee! I don't pay nearly £200 a night to make my own bed. Rant over! Despite the above this was generally a pleasant stay.

The Ben Fogle Suite was very comfortable with great views. One thing which rather spoiled our stay, though, was that although it was billed as "central", pedestrian access was up a very steep path and then steep roadway. The car park was rather small, too. Electric car charging was for Teslas only (although you could use a domestic plug in the garage if you had the right lead).

As well as the basics (linen, towels, toiletries), our Sleep Lodge (standard double room with an extra-large bed) came with a kitchenette, fridge, microwave, toaster . . . The location is up a steep hill but the elevated view out of the picture window was fantastic. Bakewell is an interesting and thriving market town. Thanks to Linda, Georgina and the team for everything, especially arranging that extra night's stay for us.

A totally unique and individual place to stay. Welcomed by the owner who was working hard to prepare rooms and despite arriving early we were allowed access to our room . The building is a former home now with many very large rooms and suites available to guests. Although the town was five minutes walk away it was great having a small but functional kitchenet where we were able to prepare cereal and toast tea or coffee for breakfast and for a light meal in the evening local oatcakes and cheese prepared in a microwave. There is a refrigerator for keeping fresh food cool. Plates, bowels, mugs, cutlery and much more. The bed was huge and very comfortable. Shower room with a power shower. There is a table and chairs for dining, two chairs for watching TV. Monday morning we had breakfast in the cattle market with farmers and visitors wanting to spoil themselves to a full cooked breakfast at an amazing £7.50. Many local pubs in and around the town provide meals which is wonderful but is expensive. Spread the cost by eating in and out on different days. Not wishing to be negative but I felt that the amazing lounge could be brighter with a lighter colour scheme. It is an amazing building with a truly manor house feel. View the on line pictures, it is better than pictures can portray.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Bagshaw Hall. Our room was well equipped and comfortable and the panoramic views over Bakewell are spectacular. The check in process was very straightforward and nothing seemed too much trouble for the owners (who kindly lent us a child’s pushchair for the duration of our stay). Highly recommended!

We booked the luxury double room. Good points were interesting historic building, pleasant sitting area downstairs, good position just up the hill from the centre of Bakewell, nice size room with comfortable chairs and a small table, nice view over Bakewell, useful kitchenette. Not happy about no ventilation in bathroom and partition to bedroom not going up to the ceiling (2 foot gap), shower was uncontrollable (very hot or very cold), bed was 5' (advertised as extra-wide), floodlights on bedroom window till 11pm, worn-out furniture.

Response from David Oulsnam, Owner at Bagshaw Hall

Thank you for your review, Jon. Your positive points lead me to some negatives you mentioned, which are based on not understanding that you were staying in a historic Grade 2 Star Listed building. The reason for the gap above the bathroom wall is that, if the wall had been taken to full height it would have damaged the original cornices, which are protected as part of the listing. The bed is a king-size 5ft bed in Frech ornate style to match the rest of the bedroom furniture, which was purchased as it is presented and not “worn out” as suggested. This is the design based on the name of the suite “The Mirabeau”. We shall of course check the shower operation, which was working correctly for the previous guest, and also the timer on the lights on the front of the hall. Jon requested a discount in exchange for a more positive review, which we declined.

We were very impressed with the accommodation at Bagshaw Hall. We were met really quickly once we had phoned the number from the car park, and even had our luggage carried to our apartment. It was spotlessly clean and extremely well equipped. The staff and the owners were extremely friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return soon.
