The Monsal Head Hotel is situated at the peak of the Monsal dale. The hotel itself is steeped in history whilst the Stables bar which has stood the test of time for over 200 years still holds the quirky values today as it did then. Offering a fine selection of beers supplied by local micro breweries. Food is of the highest offering with everything from light bites to hearty meals with an enphasis on good quality local produce all made on the premises.
Visited with friends to have an evening pub meal and chose the Monsal Head Hotel mainly for the location, having not been inside for many years. Obviously the location is very special (and a gorgeous sunset helped) but the welcome we received inside and the food, as well as the atmosphere, made the whole thing much more special than we expected. The "Monsal Pie", one of several "Monsal" dishes on the menu, turns out to be steak and ale topped with fabulous puff pastry. Very filling and quite delicious and helped down by a half of the local beer. What's not to like? We will be back sooner rather than later. Keep up the good work.

We visited as two couples on a weekday evening and ate dinner. Very generous portions, everything well prepared, varied range of dishes to suit all tastes. My salad was crunchy and fresh, lots of smoked salmon, delicious. The business are trying to rebuild post COVID and they really deserve some footfall.

Stopped with expectations after a hot and steep climb with baby and dogs. Odd service - sit in a gravel courtyard and order food at the bar then have a bleeper to collect food. A bit if kerfuffle at the bar - never served Pimms before, and all was a bit fawlty towers! However the food was ok - can’t go wrong with a cheese sandwich and a bacon and Brie one. My stepson liked the vegan chilli, and portion sizes were good. Wouldn’t rush back. I think this is a gift horse that could be a goldmine for the right management….

The mixed reviews say it all. This place has potential but is let down by poor customer service and bad planning. There is always a long queue at the bar - the management don’t seem to find ways of resolving this issue as it’s been this way for years. It took 45 mins to serve two sandwiches and a jacket potato. The portion of beans was way below what you’d typically expect. I appreciate there will be busy times but as a minimum you should inform customers if there’s going to be a lengthy delay. The pub is in a beautiful location with great views and spacious beer garden. Hopefully the management can improve these issues, it shouldn’t be too hard.

If you're expecting a boutique type hotel, then this probably won't be for you. It's a bit tired and definitely needs a tweak or two. Its real strength lies in its staff. Friendly, welcoming, with the kind of approach that makes you feel like you're part of their family. They were fantastic. Stunning location and very dog friendly. The full English breakfast was an absolute wonder. It's just perfect.

We couldn’t believe how friendly and helpful ALL of the staff were at the hotel bar. After a day’s walking we found our party in need of a short taxi ride due to an injury. With no success in finding a ride the staff couldn’t have been more helpful and kind- above and beyond!!!! A big Thank you

We were visiting the peak district for the day, with my mum to celebrate her 93rd birthday. Stopping off at Monsal head to admire the view, and have some lunch. We were initially disappointed, to find the only access to the hotel was via several stone steps. With my mum in a wheelchair, this seemed impossible. However the restaurant manager, and young barman came to our rescue. They physically handled mum in her wheelchair, safely down the steps and into the restaurant. They absolutely went over and above, service was second to none. And they were so thoughtful and kind to mum. The food was delicious. The whole experience really made my mums birthday. I can't thank the staff enough. She received the same help and care when we left, this time via the front steps, even helping us across the road with the wheelchair. I cant recommend the staff more highly at the Monsal Head Hotel. …

We were hiking and camping near the hotel. Dropped in for food in the evening it was so good and the staff so extremely friendly and welcoming to ourselves and our dog, we decided to retrace our steps in the morning for breakfast and we were not disappointed. Glynn and Trish were on top form and sent us of equipped fro the day.

Had drinks and (pre-packed) flapjack slices in the bar with friends ahead of husbands walking back to Bakewell. Staff were welcoming and the bar area had a relaxed atmosphere. Food was also available (sandwiches, jacket potatoes, salad and larger meals) including vegetarian options. There is a fabulous view of Monsal Head outside. It would be a great place to stay for the view alone.
