If your idea of a great night’s stay is a room at a Premier Inn and breakfast at the Brewer’s Fare next door, don’t even think of staying at Thorpe Lodge. But if you might appreciate a stay of real character, in an elegant listed Georgian country house, with a genuine welcome from the fascinating and well-travelled Juliet and Tommy,...

Warm and friendly reception, comfortable room (Trompe l'oeil bathroom brings the garden indoors if you like that kind of thing - we do). At breakfast, 'real' eggs and delicious bacon from local sources. A major part of the attraction of the place is Juliet and Tommy - quintessentially English and characterful. Although dogs were evident, they were kept where they...

We arrived to a lovely welcome from Juliet ang Tommy. We loved our room and everything was very comfortable and warm. The dogs were an added bonus, very well behaved and gracious about allowing us to stay! Our hosts were very helpful about local things to do. Apart from the dreary weather we really enjoyed our visit and hope to...

Having booked to stay here, we were a bit nervous after the last Trip Advisor review, but it just goes to show that one man's beef is another man's mustard! Far from this business being beyond them, Tommy and Juliet were charmingly open about the less than positive review and had obviously put right any quibbles: our room wasn't just...

We should have been alerted by the 'dog friendly' comment in the only review. Well if you like to come down to breakfast and sit down in what is obviously the dogs' room, with 2 large standard poodles lolling on armchairs next to you then this is the place for you. We were attracted by the description of the gardens...

We originally booked Thorpe Lodge as a stop-over, while travelling, because it was dog-friendly. On our arrival we were amazed by our welcome to a beautiful Georgian house in its own grounds with a park-sized garden, and large comfortable bedroom and shared sitting room. Add to this the charming hosts Juliet and Tommy, and their superb breakfast and coffee, and...
