During our one-week stay in Casale Amati, we stayed at Il frantoio. The flat was stylishly furnished and had a very nice outdoor area. The communication with the hosts was excellent. If you needed advice on the area or had a question you could always rely on a quick response. A stay here is highly recommended. Thank you very much for a lovely time. Stephan, Lilith & Carlotta

What an amazing place we found in a small Italian village! After a long an tiresome travel, we drove up the amazing mountain, swirling on small country roads, passing even smaller villages. Finally we drove up to our Casale Amati, a place we managed to book from home just 1 day ahead of leaving rainy Netherlands! We entered the old rustic olive mill through a mid evil looking door and were welcomed by the sound of falling water from a small waterfall, super calming! The energy was amazing! Esepcially when we were welcomed by the owners Federica and her brother (thanks for the amazing white wine).....after the welcome We discovered a small & almost fairy tale like house, which was equipped with every comfort you can think of (lcd tv which we did not use/our netflix account was silent for a week;-) as we had much better things to do, like enjoying the amazing big garden with our dog, lovely breakfasts in the morning (dont forget the “red house panneria in Casano😋😋), enjoying the sun, and obviously great neighbor restaurants, and breath taking visits to Cinque terre& the beach. What a shame I did not bring my surfboard, amazing waves every day! We slept great all week and really managed to relax and chill. Every night we enjoyed some nice wines and BBQ lovely fish & meat, or even walked the garden with wall nut trees, kiwi trees, flowers & butterflies...words can not express how much we loved this place. Super price & quality ...yet too much to discover for one week! Next year we will will come again, show the place to my family and try some Ligurian spring air.. as Federica mentioned they are planning on getting a pool...which would complement a perfect family holiday. Only downside...you never want to leave again! Thanks Federica & brother for allowing us to enjoy your family home, it was truly amazing, and we will come back! Pascal & evelyne & Philo🐶

We stayed in this wonderful old olive mill several days together with our family including 3 kids. So we had both flats on the 1st floor which are connected by a door. So it was just one big flat then with 2 bathrooms, two kitchens and 6 bedrooms in total. We used just 5 bedrooms. The whole house is nicely decorated with old furniture/antique furniture in good condition besides modern aspects, especially wifi, TV with obviously every available channel of the world, and for sure a well equipped kitchen including dishwasher. Everything was clean and the whole house and every room is very cosy. We didn't use the very big garden behind the house due to the bad weather we had in November. But in summer it must just be wonderful to have a BBQ on the terrace. The service is also very good. The owner explained us everything regarding the old house and how the oil was produced. There are many historical parts of the old oil production system still visible. That makes this house and especially the flat "LA Macine" a very particular and authentic place. We got also many recommendations for what we can do and visit around. Thanks for the amazing stay and your support in our situation. Hope we come back one day.

Important: This review concerns the apartment: CASALE FRANTOIO INGOLOTTI (one of three apartments). This country house is in fact a very cozy country house. With nice facilities, a very nice and original decor and a lovely private garden. The reason for only awarding two stars is the following: The apartment does not live up to the description on the Casale Amati website: Exerpt from the website (as of July 14, 2016): "100 square meters. Downstairs: living room with two sofa beds, bathroom with ancient marble sink, carefully restored, dressing area." In reality, "downstairs" is just a dark hall with a smell of moist basement. There is no second bathroom. There is no living room. There are no sofa beds. Subtract 40 square meters from the 100 square meters! Also a "panoramic" waterfall is mentioned. In reality this "waterfall" is just a noisy cascade of water from a small creek close to the entry hall. The road runs approximately 30-40 cm's from the house facade - making it impossible to open the windows in the two bedrooms, if you are just a bit noise sensitive. WIFI was working on/off, but the modem/router had clearly been hacked/infected, and the internet connection was insecure. TV was not working. Not that we were there to watch TV - but we missed the UEFA Euro 2016 final. To sum up: This IS a very special and nice house. But due to the wrong description and the useless basement - we award it only two stars.

Response from Federica C, Proprietario at Casale Amati Country House
Responded 17 Nov 2016
Dear T. I'm really sorry that you are so disappointed by our house. I apologize for not having had time to personally welcome you upon your arrival, the error on the site there really was! The house has only one bathroom, not two. We have already corrected a long time! Il Frantoio is part of the oldest house, dating from the fourteenth century A.D. One of the oldest buildings in history. The waterfall is the cascade mentioned that moved around the crusher, in the past there were three mills in the same building. In the past there were two large metal wheels that gave life to the whole mill. (We're planning to put two new wheels similar to the ancient) The ground floor is not a damp basement, but a very old space, all in stone, where it is planning a turkish bath for guests, it is nearing completion. The wifi and TV work perfectly. In the days that you were here, the connection was not good, I called too technical, that you were not willing. Also I sent you a small compensation to your travel agency. Did you receive it? You made a bad review in all portals on the web. You are the only negative review that I have ever had. You could contact us. You said the disappointment at the end of your stay. I could not do anything to help you. I hope I can still host, to show the wonders of our ancient mill house. Federica

I had the opportunity to visit this place during few events organized by the very professional staff of Casale Amati. A multi activities event called Sinergie with few artists showing their painting, other culture performances all dressed by a supreme atmosphere of wine tasting and special food . Don't miss this place if you have the chance to travel in this area, please.

I had a great time! A rather unique place from which it is easy to reach the main attractions in Tuscany and Liguria. The flats have been recently renovated and the parts of the original water mill have been nicely integrated into the flats. Hospitality was awesome.

A beautiful location, surrounded by greenery. The House an ancient mansion, which has retained its integrity, complete in all its parts. Le Macine, La Marquise, how to live for a few days a distant time.

A perfect place to stay in with your family and/or friends. From the outside the old olive-oil mill may not look like much but inside you realize that you have stepped into a castle. It is a grand old place with parts of the mill still showing it one of the two great kitchens. There are plenty of rooms to choose from, the upper rooms with AC and down below cool enough for a hot summer. The garden is very pretty, with gold-fish in the dam, plenty of room to relax. The house is situated in the foothills of the mountains, but not far from the sea. There is plenty to do in the area and I cannot enough stress that you need to see this place and realize you will want to come back. The hostess is very pleasant and helpful, a very nice encounter.

We spent wonderful holidays in this beautifully restored very old oil mill. We loved all the wonderful details and we found it great to have the old mill directly in the living room. There is enough space for 5 persons, all the necessary equipment is at your hand. What is really special is the fantastic garden. We enjoyed sitting there in the evenings. ((Be careful, there are midges!) The owner is very nice and helpful and gave us many hints which sights (including those you cannot find in a guide book) are worth seeing. Altogether it is absolutely worth spending your holidays there. Beate and Horst Piehler, Ute and Stefan Gläßer
