We booked a Superior double room for 3 nights at a cost of over £140.00 PER night as part of our holiday to celebrate our Golden Wedding anniversary. On arrival we were shown to an appalling room on the second floor, the carpet was filthy, the bedside lampshades were cracked and broken and the room generally uninviting and grubby. We spoke with reception immediately to ask for another room. The duty manager, Ashley came to see the room and agreed it was dreadful, I must add here that we learnt the room was re-let to another guest immediately, how do you explain this? We were offered the choice of two other rooms in another part of the hotel but they were a poor copy of a Premier Inn room, needed a jolly good clean, at least at a Premier Inn you can guarantee cleanliness. We were not given any other option but felt we had to accept this room. We asked the following day for the manager to contact us and he never did. The polite reception staff did confirm that she had asked the duty manager to phone us but that never happened. All in all an extremely disappointing, expensive stay and I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

When we arrived we were greeted by the friendly receptionist, she asked if we were booking dinner , I replied we had made a reservation a month before for a table in the conservatory and that it had been confirmed by email , she said that the conservatory was closed and our table hadn’t been booked in the Walton bar but she would sort it out , our room was lovely clean and comfortable and near the swimming pool , we used this facilities and was greeted by the two lovely staff explained everything, we went down for dinner and was given a table at the door were everyone was on the through fair to there tables , felt very uncomfortable with Covid still on the go , everyone stopping right next to us to be shown to there table , the following night we were told it would be the table next to where we were the previous night , we asked for another and was willing to change time to eat if we could have another table , this was not possible , yet we ordered got wrong drink and watched the other tables stay empty and further guests come in then swap to another table as they didn’t like the one they had , we were really annoyed at this and said to the bar man , he wasn’t helpful at all , we would normally have a bottle of wine with dinner and enjoy our dinning experience when in the conservatory , and probably would have done the same if we hadn’t been sitting in the throughfair of everyone breathing over us , we had a delicious full breakfast in the conservatory, what a difference, we’ll done staff for running a smart smooth operation, can’t see how the conservatory couldn’t have been open the previous nights when the kitchen was right next to it ,I think the staff that was on the two night were more than able to have looked after there as well when we were checking out we mentioned to receptionist Rayanne who was simplithetic with us , and hoped we would stay again, we really enjoy staying at the hotel as we have been several times , but unless we knew the conservatory was definitely open , the waltons bar is nice too but a bit squashed for dinner, it’s expesive for food and drink , we had a comfortable stay regardless , even with a wedding going on near our room we didn’t really hear it ,it’s a pity about this blipt and hope the manger thinks about closing the conservatory in the future, I know they were having difficulty with new chefs , but the menu was always the same in both places anyway so can’t understand how this problem arose in the first place , to be honest even if they had just half a dozen tables open that weekend it wouldn’t have been a bad thing Covid wise, thank you to all the staff who work so hard in the hotel

We had our wedding reception here 30 years ago and back then the Crown was simply the best hotel in one of the best locations in Carlisle and surrounding area. Our experience now very different -room was dark, very dirty and badly in need of a complete refurbishment - we can honestly say it had exactly the same decor as we had 30 years ago. Bathroom old and orange mould all over bath and shower - carpet was filthy - cobwebs and flies everywhere - no housekeeping to the point where we ran out of toilet paper - we seem to have been given THE worst room - wedding right below our room and smokers corner right under our window - only one electric car charger and needless to say we couldn’t get a slot - room was so dark we had to have lights on all the time - ridiculously expensive for a 2 star experience. The owners of this hotel should be truly ashamed for the clear neglect.

Room was great, location was great, village is great but my memories of this place as a traditional, cosy staging post have faded. The bar area is dark and what atmosphere there once was has been obliterated. Reception problems, very slow wine service and Frankenstein feel to the place (some trad olde worlde, some Alan Partridge comfy) left us all a bit sad about it. I should properly applaud the excellent breakfast team. Very good service indeed from the lead waitress.

we spent 4 days 3 nights at the crown hotel in a privileged room on second floor, room was excellent very spacious with 2 chairs and table also had a balcony and table and chairs as well lovely view out on gardens but fr the view you had to stand up as wall was bit high but was sheltered from the wind that was blowing room was clean bathroom was lovely and tidy and clean had hair dryer, clothes press , coffee machine only disappointment was we only got 1 pod for the machine for the 3 morning we were there. staff were very friendly couldnt do enough for you Chris the manager spoke and greeted everyone every night him and his staff were a credit to the hotel meals were good and breakfast was very nice with a great choice. pool and gym area were very nice and the lady and guy that was there were very nice and took time to show us around ,pool, sauna, steam room,2 great gyms, cycle room. had a greaat time and will be back
