Anurak is a lovely place. Very nice staff and quaint, pretty surroundings. You will sleep well. It is very jungle and very isolated, I strongly suggest you visit if you have your own car as there is nothing to do within walking distance of the hotel. But if you have a car you can drive 40 minutes to Khao Sok Village and the park for hiking. You can drive about to explore different parts of the rivers there and find the best places for swimming. You can drive about 1.5 hours to the STUNNING beaches to the west around Takua Pa District, Phang-nga. You can drive about 45 minutes to Khao Sok lake Ratchaprapha for a day trip on the beautiful freshwater dam (we highly recommend just doing a day drip and not falling prey to the floating hotel traps, they are very unpleasant). There are various types of huts all named after fruit in Thai, our AC was not working in the “Farang” (Guava) hut so we were upgraded to their newer tent-style "Rambutan" hut and it was lovely with a huge bathroom. All the beds are comfy and clean, the rooms are cute, they all have mosquito nets (though we didn’t need it) and they have much-needed aircon (24 hours a day) and fans. Hot water shower as well. I also appreciated that they use reusable glass bottles for water, soap, shampoo, and bodywash and do not offer plastic amenities. The restaurant food is simple, and tasty. Though it and the drinks were a bit overpriced. The breakfast is alright with your choice of a standard protein offering or Thai rice porridge and a toast and fruit help-yourself situation as well as tea and coffee station. Not a buffet, but you can certainly overstuff yourself. The area is all about the nature. There are no TVs or anything, but that’s fine. There are bicycles for guest use and the hotel will arrange some trips for you if you ask. For the most part, we were left alone and that’s the way we like it. Improvements we would make include having mini-fridges in the rooms. The hotel could make money selling drinks if they were reasonably priced, and the guests could hang out in the room at night with some beers without having to sit in the sweaty and insect-ridden outdoor restaurant. There was also no incentive to eat at the hotel, so we ate most of our meals over 3 days and nights outside the hotel. They could offer evening bonfires or something a bit different than the basic plate of padgaprao (180 THB) for dinner. They should offer something more in the way of wildlife information. We went to see animals, but the hotel didn’t really know anything about the local fauna. Some information on what to spot and where to go to see it …. Anything at all to make this place stand out as a destination would be good. We understand these are very quiet times for the hotel industry, so we were happy to see the place almost full every night we were there. We know that they might not be at full operational standards. It was a nice place to be, and a good start to our trip. A great, super quiet, peaceful place to stay. Lots of different bugs, if you are afraid of creepy crawlies, the jungle is probably not for you. Take A LOT of mosquito repellant.

Nested in the jungle of Khao Sok, between the lake and the jungle treks, Anurak is a nice place to stay. We had 3 nights here, in a bungalow with airco. Everything is easy going. The staff is very kind and helpfull. The breakfest can be buffet or not, but is like "all you can eat". From there, nice trip on river raft, and special mention tonthe jungle walk guided by khun Nit. For sure, when we will come back to Khao Sok with friends, we will stay here again. I want also thank a lot khun George for the warm welcome. And i must not forget the complementary jungle dinner (was so so good) on the second evening. Perfect is the word.

We were 7 people at 4 cabins for 3 nights. All activities and meals were done/arranged by the lodge staff. Staying on the the edge of the jungle, surrounded by Gibbons and other birds and animals was a fantastic background to a perfect service by Anurak staff using there sustainable facilities. All the activities at the area were existing and breathless.

Loved this lodge for so many reasons. The ambiance is beautiful, situated in the jungle. The rooms were very clean (including bathroom) and each room has a patio balcony area to enjoy outside. The lodge is close to the national park for day excursions. The staff were very attentive to ensure a personal experience. Nit lead us through a jungle hike (spoke very good English) and helped prepare an awesome open fire meal. The food was delicious. I highly recommend a stay here if you want to experience nature and still have modern accommodations.

Before returning to Bangkok we book 2 nights at the award winning ecolodge, the Anurak Community Lodge. The 2019 winner of both the SKÅL Asian Area environmental award and also SKÅL’s global sustainable award for rural accommodation. Anurak Community Lodge is located adjacent to the Khao Sok national park area in southern Thailand and is Travelife certified. The 20-unit ecolodge, which opened in 2016, received its certification after complying with Travelife’s rigorous Gold Certificate criteria. We accessed the resort from Khao Lak travelling east via a dramatic mountainous drive through the national park. Most guests however would probably transit via Surat Thani. The scenery around the lodge is utterly spectacular. The Anurak Trail From the hotel’s website we learnt that the ecolodge focuses very much on minimising environmental impact, reducing energy consumption, respecting labour and human rights, maintaining health and safety standards, encouraging community integration, working with appropriate suppliers, and inspiring guest participation in onsite sustainability initiatives. Anurak has adopted principles of reducing, reusing, and recycling. Key aspects of its sustainability commitment include the banning of single-use plastic and styrofoam and the creation of a recycling station and composting zone. Greywater from the laundry is filtered and used on the ecolodge’s “Rainforest Rising” project, which, over the long-term, will return 3,300 square metres of oil palm plantation to native vegetation cover. In August 2019, the ecolodge was listed among 36 of the world’s leading green lodges and hotels in the National Geographic Traveller (UK) invitation-only Earth Collection. On the edge of Khao Sok National Park, the lodge offers a range of ecotourism packages from two to four nights. Activities include hiking, rafting, kayaking, forest cooking, and boat trips on nearby Cheow Larn Lake, with its spectacular limestone cliffs rising sheer from the water’s surface. A local community dance troupe entertain lodge guests at dinner - they were delightful. Located a 75-minute drive from Surat Thani airport and two hours and 30 minutes from Phuket airport, the lodge offers deluxe green, eco double, eco twin, and deluxe jungle tent options. Surrounded by limestone karst scenery, the lodge is an ideal base to explore. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return to view its development. Andrew J Wood
