Detailed Reviews
Feels more like a hostel than a unique lodge - such a beautiful location and building could benefit from some simple improvements to be much nicer than it is. Bathrooms have a very strong disinfectant smell.
All said, if you don't need much more than a bed for a night, it is fine enough.
The surrounding gardens are stunning.

Lovely historic building in North Sydney. We stayed in both the Garden Studio and a Queen Room with Balcony found both were great. Having private facilities in the garden studio was a bonus but the shared facilities in the main house were adequate, clean and the water was hot with good pressure always a plus when away from home. We chose this lodge as it was reasonably priced and close to the Mater Hospital where my husband was having treatment, we were close enough to walk with many cafes on the way to pick up breakfast and lovely restaurants and pub choices for dinner. There is a supermarket close by for supplies and if you are staying in the main house plenty of storage in the kitchen. A bit frustrating that other guest do not dry up and put there dishes away but that isn’t the hotels fault. Whilst there is no one at reception to greet you collecting and returning the key is easy with lots of instruction give to make it clear and when I’ve rung for any questions the phone is answered promptly and staff eager to assist.

we stayed in the Garden Studio at Dieziel Lodge for a night.
Check in was easy, and when we arrived, we found a warm personal message from the Lodge. That was very thoughtful!
We had a good night's sleep and the room had a wonderful "private" outdoor lounge area to sip a glass of wine in the warm evening.
The location is in a nice quiet area.
Would also recommend the Studio to anyone who's looking to stay longer or prefers to have more private time as it is equipped with fridge, microwave, tablewear etc.
We didn't have much time to explore the common areas in the main house, but it looked very cozy.
It was just such a good night for us, we hope to come back there soon.

From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by the lovely assistant. Although we were very early, we had a minimal wait for our room. The rooms are beautifully appointed with very comfy beds. The toilets and bathrooms are clean and easily accessible. There is a beautiful garden with lounge area.
There are many options for eating out, and some lovely markets not far from the lodge.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it to anyone!
Thanks for a great stay

Well located in quiet street with easy access to the city by bus or train. Tastefully modernised heritage building. We had a double room with shared bathroom. 2nd floor bathrooms were a bit cramped but otherwise modern and clean. Shared kitchen was a great facility and there is a good size lounge/dining room. Overall very good clean and comfortable accommodation.

This place was lovely and charming and a fun place for something different from your normal hotel stay in a city. The neighborhood was kind of hip and cool, and the location was doable. We like to walk, so it wasn't a big deal to walk to the harbor and other key sites.

Dear Candann, I'm genuinely chuffed that you think that Dalziel is Hip and cool. We've tried to combine the old building with all the modern comforts of home and are genuinely happy that you liked it so much. It's also a great place to take a stroll around North Sydney or the city. We hope to see you again soon. JC Branch

Lovely clean old world 2 storey home.
My room was like new, spotless and bright with both an opening window and air conditioner which was needed due to the hot humid weather. Comfortable bed, cosy, quiet.
Great communal kitchen, dining and lounge rooms.
I would happily give a better score overall except for the following sticking points:
I had no problem with the very small size of the single room, but the positioning of the wardrobe next to the bed instead of further down made the room very cramped. It also meant the wardrobe doors could not be opened properly (hitting the bed), so gaining access to clothes and such inside meant you had to stand behind a half open door jammed against the side of the bed, and lean around to get things in and out. I think this should be easily rectified by jiggling the position of the wardrobe and the desk at the end of the room next to the door.
2 of the 3 downstairs bathroom floors have been tiled so that the water runs in the opposite direction from the drains, pooling indefinitely...unsatisfactory....you have a shower then stand in a deep pool of (dirty) water to dry.
Lack of adequate manning times for the Desk for check in and out, its only my opinion but I think there should be 1 staff member in attendance all the time especially if you consider the showers need to be mopped regularly because of the water pooling problem.
I would have no hesitation to stay again but might investigate the upstairs showers to see if they are better...
Cant however fault the value for money overall and the great position (but I understand that is dependent on the individual destination of the traveller).
Users of public transport should note: I had no problem with the walk from Nth Sydney railway station, but others should inform themselves well beforehand, in case they might.

Dear Triple Speed, I sincerely appreciate your feedback. Since your review we replaced the cupboard in that room (the smallest one) with a more suitable arrangement as I was never happy with the cupboard hitting the bed (I know the room as it's the only one with this problem). All the other rooms are much larger (but are a little more expensive). As for staffing at all times, unfortunately we are only 16 rooms and budget hotel and as such it would be economically unfeasible to do this as in Australia our rates of pay are fair but also mean that it's not justifiable to have someone available 24 hours a day just to mop a floor. I have also addresses the water issue with tile damns across the showers but as they are shares facilities they are used very regularly. Again thank you for your kind review, I'm always keen to see how we can improve and appreciate your candid feedback and where we can fix things we are always willing to address problems. Sincerely JC Branch

Super clean and well-appointed guest house. I stayed in a single room and it was small but perfectly laid out - everything you need and nothing you don't. Bed was extremely comfortable and it was very quiet. The neighborhood is great for walking and in about 20 minutes I was at a grassy slope with a stunning view of the harbor, including the opera house. The lodge is on a tree-lined street and there is good, reasonably priced food nearby (I had dumplings for dinner at a Chinese restaurant a few doors down and excellent coffee with a bacon & egg roll for breakfast at Campo on the corner).
None of the rooms have en suites, but the shared bathrooms (separate ones for men and women) are spotless with a number of toilet stalls and showers.
Asta - who was at the front desk when I arrived - was extremely helpful! I was traveling without a phone and she helped me arrange an airport shuttle. For $35 I had door-to-door service to the international airport. I used public transport to get from the airport to the lodge, and it was pretty straightforward, but I decided to save myself a little anxiety before my long international flight and the shuttle was worth every penny. This lodge has it all: charm, comfort, location, affordability, and terrific service!

Dear Katie Bennet, Sincerely thank you for your lovely review. I will also pass on your comments to Asta who is currently away on Maternity Leave, It's lovely to read how you enjoyed the location of North Sydney and I know exactly that grassy slope where you can see the bridge from the end of Ridge st. Part of the reason we didn't try to make breakfast in the Lodge was the number of great cafe's in the area. I often to to Campo for coffee (they are great By the way) and thought our guests would prefer a great cafe breakfast instead of a hotel style buffet. I'm also pleased that you found our facilities to be spotless which is extremely important to us. Thank you again for your lovely comments and we hope to see you again soon at Dalziel Sincerely JC Branch

As long as you realise that you are in accommodation with shared bathroom facilities, then this place is great. It was spotlessly clean, well decorated, comfortable beds, and enough space in the room to be comfortable. The toilets and showers whilst shared are excellent, all brand new and also spotlessly clean. There is a lounge, kitchen and laundry as shared facilities, all which are more than adequate. The location is great with cafes and restaurants and a hotel all very close by, and it is a short walk to North Sydney, including the train station. It was also very quiet so I slept very well.

Dear Darren, Thank you sincerely for your positive comments. Yes we do have shared bathrooms, despite this we try to ensure the rooms are spotless and each guest has all the facilities they may require. I'm glad you noticed that our location is excellent. We didn't think guests would want breakfast etc when there are so many choices nearby. Again thanks for your lovely comments we sincerely appreciate them, and look forward to your return visit. Hotel itself is clean and nice. The staff is also nice. Only disadvantage is 15 minutes walk from North Sydney station with slight hill. Other than that, the stay is comfortable. I am not keen to be shared bathroom, but it is clean and affordable.

We are very close about 5 minute walk. We are the closest accommodation to the Mater hospital.
