What an incredible place! It’s clear that it’s been renovated with every thought to creature comforts as well as design. The bedding was perfect, the furniture gorgeous AND comfy cozy, the decor a perfect marriage of modern and antique. The “quick breakfasts” turned out to be a French toast apple bake with bacon one morning and cheesy eggs on toast with coffee cake the next morning. Coffee and tea available all the time, as well as for purchase wine, beer and snacks. Wine/cocktail/water glasses and carafes were a great touch. No plastic waste in the rooms - hand soap and shower toiletries were in refillable glass pump bottles. And everything was absolutely spotless. The land is gorg - we took a walk after breakfast through the woods, down to the water and saw 4! bald eagles. Truly can’t say enough good things about the Tarbox!!

This is a very charming inn. A lot of effort has gone into making it a great combination of old charm and modern design. My daughter particularly liked the rawhide cow dresser! The breakfast was delicious and the morning staff very friendly and accommodating.

Things to know: If you are looking for a personal welcoming and chat from the owners, as you find in many B&Bs, this is not that. It is more like a vrbo experience. We were given directions and a guide and our key was left in the door. The owners have done a wonderful job of making the guide comprehensive and we did not mind, but I know some people look for that specifically so just be aware.

Also, pick your room carefully. We were two adults and two children, unusual for a B&B, so we chose the only room that could accommodate 4, the Mary Margret, which has a loft. The day we arrived the temperatures reached the high 70s, maybe low 80s. Our room faces south. It was very hot! We arrived at 7pm but the in room air conditioners had not been turned on. We turned them both on and went downstairs to read while the rooms cooled. The lift cooled nicely. Unfortunately the main bedroom really didn’t cool to a reasonable temperature until 4am. It was a fitful night’s sleep. The machine also made a club king sound periodically so I think it might be broken. I did let them know when I checked out but I would definitely recommend double checking on this before booking. I suspect this room is probably the worst for solar heat given it’s location.

The pond was lovely to look at from the window but all the mosquitoes prohibited enjoying it from outside.

I’ve included these details to help travelers who have specific tastes and needs.

Overall we were very pleased with the inn, it was charming and just the kind of non-hotel-chain lodging we were looking for. We would book again!

We spent the weekend at the Squire Tarbox Inn for a small family wedding. The venue was their absolutely stunning 1800s barn and the inn itself is a very cool building. Jessica and team were incredible hosts and the property itself is a beautifully maintained plot in the woods on Westport Island. From the serene pond to the hiking trails out back, the natural beauty of Maine is wonderfully showcased at the Squire Tarbox Inn. I hope we are able to return here in the future with our family for a weekend getaway!

My partner and I had the most wonderful little getaway at Squire Tarbox. Staying here feels like staying in a friend's really well-appointed old home—a beautiful, easy mix of design and history. It was quiet, relaxed, secluded, and there was even room for our pup. The candlelit pop-up dinner was delicious, and so nice to only have to walk next door. We will be back again and again. This place is a gem.

My husband, pup and I stayed for two nights at the Squire Tarbox Inn a couple of weeks ago. It is literally the most country-chic bed & breakfast we have been to in a long time. All the rooms were exquisitely furnished, the grounds were immaculate and the groundskeeper Mark was super accommodating. It just felt so cozy and perfect for an Autumn getaway. We will be back again!

Simply a pleasure! We stayed late June 2021. Our room had a loft with ladder that our kids happily scaled. Breakfast was tasty and enjoyable. The inn itself is aioli lovely. We hope to return. Note: lunch and dinner can be a challenge but options are available in Wiscasset.

Unbelievable BNB in close proximity to Boothbay. Our family of 4 enjoyed the beautiful property, very quaint accommodations, and 5 star service. I highly recommend visiting if in the area.
The property is about a 20 minute drive to some outstanding food in Wiscasset, ME.

My husband and I stayed here for a night away and had a wonderful stay. Beautiful, perfectly maintained buildings and grounds, goats and chickens to visit, small breakfast included. All in all, a great little island escape.

I absolutely love The Squire Tarbox Inn. My second time staying here, it was a little family reunion kind of visit, and it was perfect! The rooms are cozy and quaint. The sitting rooms in the Inn are comfortable and inviting! We had dinner, that we had brought in on the balcony, it was just beautiful! A perfect place for morning coffee and an evening glass of wine! The grounds are just beautiful, the barn is gorgeous, the history of the building, really draws you in! And the chicken and goats are just delightful! I brought my little dog on this trip and he got a kick out of meeting them! I look forward to returning!

I recently stayed at the Squire Tarbox. I wish I had read the Trip Advisor reviews before staying there, because the comments about it being unwelcoming are quite true.

The Squire Tarbox is a charming country inn on Westport Island, at least 12 miles from the nearest town of Wiscasset. It has some rustic beauty, with exposed wood walls and floors. You're definitely in a somewhat remote area: a live bat got in while I was there and was flying around the interior library. The grounds are quite pretty, if not a little mosquito-drenched in the summer, and the inn's rooms have views of a small pond with some goose decoys and the vegetable garden. Having glanced in several rooms, I see they have a real fondness for Raggedy Ann -- at least one rag doll seems to be plopped in a chair in each guest room.

As with any old country inn that has been carved into 11 rooms, guest spaces are small and water pressure/water temperature is not what it could be. Walls are thin, and I could overhear guests in adjacent rooms. Bathrooms are tiny. Ours had a small shower stall and a door that could not open or close if someone was in the bathroom. The guestroom had a selection of old books, so if you arrive empty handed, you can find something to read! Rooms all remain unlocked all the time.

Breakfasts are generous and quite tasty. I found breakfast, which is included in the room price, to be better than dinner. The inn also has an honor bar, but few honors are offered to guests: the small pantry is locked when the innkeepers go to sleep.

The chef seemed very friendly, but his wife, the woman running the inn, made me quite uncomfortable, as if I were an intruder in a private home. I noticed a framed certificate of appreciation
from Delta Airlines hanging in the inn, thanking her for 33 years of service. So, perhaps think of a rather dour flight attendant, and then put her at the helm of an inn.

The biggest disappointment is that a 13% service charge is added to the entire bill, so even if the service isn't as ebullient as one might hope, you're paying extra for it anyway.

The inn makes a fine short retreat for retirees who wish to lounge in a rustic country setting. Anyone with an active itinerary along the Maine coast may prefer to stay in one of the nearby small harbor towns which offer more amenities, places to walk, and some food options.
