The Westlodge is in a lovely part of Cork. It is not madly expensive but neither is it great value for the area. The rooms are a little rough, not quaint or 'old style charm' more in need of a facelift. Case in point is the mixer tap shower with the grip bar in the bath that requires you to be a bit of a contortionist when using the shower head. The two main things in a room for me are the shower and the bed. I've had better of both in a standard family room. The swimming pool is great. The staff were friendly after an initial frosty reception. The area boasts proudly of it's food. The food here is rudimentary pub grub for the most part. I got the impression that the staff do their best with what they are given. It's a pity they aren't given just a little bit more.

We recently stayed one night at this supposedly 3 star hotel. 3 star it is definitely NOT,. On first impressions the hotel is nice , the foyer is bright and looks well but then things take a turn for the worst. Walking down the corridor to the room is very dreary, and tired looking. The corridors are long and dismal, the square metal plates around each door made it look like prison cells. Then we went into room. OMG it was like going back in time. VERY Very dreary. It reminded me of the Blur song " house was very small with woodchip on the wall"- seriously the walls were covered with woodchip paper and painted yellow , and not even a nice bright yellow . the TV was tiny . I though I was back in the 70's.. The sound proofing is brutal, you could hear people talking in the next

Response from PatGill, General Manager at Westlodge Hotel

I must say i am very disappointed to read your comments and i would agree that our older rooms certainly need to be modernized and this would give a much better image to our customers. We are undergoing a major refurbishment programme at the moment and out of our 100 bedrooms 60 are already completed to a very high standard and 20 more will be finished over the coming winter and balance will be upgraded by summer 2020. our directors are determined to offer the very best standard possible as soon as they can. We do charge less for these older rooms and will try and eliminate these problems as soon as we can. Overall Westlodge offers excellent facilities at a very good price with extensive leisure and 26 acres of mature grounds overlooking Bantry Bay, including pitch & Putt , Tennis, soccer pitch , 2 lovely walks, 9 self catering cottages, outdoor play ground and indoor playroom. there is no doubt that we can improve and we will strive to do this every day and if we can invite to come back to us in the near future, i am sure you will see this for yourself. Once again i am sorry you did have an enjoyable expedience on this occasion but i am sure if you return to us again, you will leave in a much better frame of mind. please contact me personally to discuss in more detail if you wish to do so. Yours sincerely Pat Gill General manager

We stayed in the Westlodge for 3 nights. We had a family suite which was nice save for the bathroom which had a shower in the bath. The bath wasn't in great condition and so we never actually put the kids in it. The lobby is outdated as is the bar and halls could all do with face lifts. The playground is not good nor is the playroom. The swimming pool is great. Breakfast was nice, although there was no soft fruit for our baby. The staff generally were very nice, exceptions were the receptionist who checked us in, she was not friendly and quite dismissive and condescending, also at breakfast one morning one of the girls placed a hot coffee pot very close to our 2 year old and when asked to remove it picked it up by the top and lofted it over his head, that was extremely dangerous

I spent two nights with a friend at this wonderful hotel on 9th and 10th of August. Highlight was friendliness and helpfulness of staff: Receptionist, Valerie. Barmen Damien and Patrick. Waitresses, Lucy, Sharon and Brid. We had a superb, pristine and spacious room. Bar and restaurant food and service excellent. The location is wonderful- short walk to gorgeous harbour and then 10 min walk into the lovely town of Bantry. Convenient to the peerless Sheep's Head peninsula. Well done and thanks to Pat and staff. Michael Lally

We stayed at the Westlodge Hotel last weekend and were really impressed with the hotel. We had a lovely room on the third floor and the food was excellent (especially the breakfast!) The staff and manager were friendly and willing to help and the gardens are exceptional! We will definitely be back!

Stayed in the Cottages with my family. On check in I was waiting while receptionist was on the phone, she finished, saw me standing there and the proceeded to check in another family. I explained that I was there 1st and receptionist told me she thought I was just standing there.... Cottage has everything you need. Simple things could be of better quality (pillows). Spotless clean throughout. Staff in hotel seem to be very young and this reflects on their customer care, no interaction or interest, just seems to be get the job done. One discrepancy is clearing table when people are still eating, basic training. Food was ok, better on the second night, seafood platter doesn't need dressing poured all over the fish. My husband had the chowder and said it was one of the best.

The Westlodge Hotel, situated about a half an hour walk from Bantry town boasts 100 spacious bedrooms (there is also a honeymoon suite and 9 self-catering cottages). Out of these 100 rooms, 40 are ‘Superior’ rooms. As we are a small family (two adults and a 6yr old girl) and on a budget, we opted for a ‘Standard’ room. On arrival, the hotel was well lit and well presented with large colourful chairs/sofas on either side of the foyer. The reception staff were friendly, polite and welcoming. First impressions as we made our way down the corridor to our room were not the best. It was dreary to say the least and the square metal plates around each door lock we passed, made it feel like we were walking down a blue-carpeted prison corridor. My Spidey senses began to tingle. On opening

We stayed here recently for 5 nights and as you walk in the lounge areas are beautiful and stylish..... The same cannot be said for upstairs....very dated, rusty radiators and drab. We had no hot water one morning but had to go out for the day - when we came back in the evening, no hot water. I went to reception and asked for some assistance and they said they would send someone up - no one came, so an hour later I went back down - the duty manager said he hadn't been given the message - it was 10pm at this point so I said we should leave it until the morning. Next morning water was on, next day off again. Anyway, when checking out I asked for a discount on my €525 bill (€105 per night B&B) the manager was called and she was a bit rude and said she hadn't been told and I was
