Can only comment on the food as popped on for lunch on way back home. Offers a good choice of foods including vegetarian and gluten free options. Food was very tasty and large portions. Reasonably priced. Staff were friendly and attentive. Lovely decor in bar/lounge area with the old pictures and log fire which must get lit in the winter...

We enjoyed steak night this week. Delicious steaks. Good friendly service. Nice surroundings.*The deal was 2 steaks and a bottle of wine for £26 per couple. We found it good value. Only dfawback was the size of the table-a bit cramped for 4 people.

If I could give this place no stars I would!! Called in here (as told to by my wedding organiser) for a possible wedding reception as I've chose to get married in Gretna. Absolutely shocking service, the woman on reception obviously didn't want to be bothered and it seems we totally interrupted her day. Didn't want to help us at...

We've just had two nights at the Gretna Chase Hotel during our short break in the borders. The hotel is very well located right on the Scottish/English border and has extensive on-site parking. Check in was simple, a minor criticism is that we weren't told where breakfast was served etc so had to figure that out for ourselves in the...

Three of us (bride to be and both mums) visited Gretna yesterday to check out several wedding venues. We entered a very quiet reception area and had to ring for attention. A very frosty mature woman appeared-no smile-no welcome whatsoever(got the feeling she didn't want to be there). We said we were looking for a wedding venue-still no smile-we said...

Our daughter and son in law had their wedding reception at this hotel and all the guests stayed overnight. It's a very pleasant hotel and the staff are mostly all friendly, although a couple of them could have been a bit more helpful. The rooms are very clean and comfortable but the one we stayed in had a bees nest...

We enjoyed our evening meal here and the bar staff and waiting staff were very friendly and attentive. A good varied pub-ish menu and local beer and a nice choice of whisky. Quite an elegant place and a hotel......

Called with friends last night on a steak night deal, we were told that the steaks would be rib-eyes and we ordered accordingly. When the steaks arrived they were really to our liking, too much fat in comparison to other rib eye steaks that we've had in the past. We didn't complain and put the quality down to the price...

Stayed one night en route to Cheshire. Arrived very late but no problem for lovely lady on reception. We'd also been upgraded to premier double without asking. Room was huge and, in the main, clean. The bathroom is starting to get a bit tired but again, clean. It's a very pretty property with a lovely historical interior. No road noise...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Located on the Scottish / English border, Gretna Green is world famous for its runaway marriages and in the mid nineteenth century there was much rivalry between the various marriage house proprietors ... The Gretna Chase Hotel was built by John Murray, an extremely successful businessman in the marriage trade, and tenant of Allison's toll-bar. Completed in 1856, Murray built the hotel opposite the toll-bar. It proved very popular with clients, being the first in the area to offer stabling for horses. Today, The Gretna Chase Hotel offers modern amenities, but retains much of its original character. All bedrooms have pleasant views of the surrounding countryside, and public rooms are furnished in a style in-keeping with the age of the hotel. Fully licensed, privately owned and completely supervised by the owners, this small but extremely comfortable hotel offers the discerning guest a carefree informality away from city pressures. We would be delighted to show you around the hotel by appointment , to highlight all the facilities we have to offer and discuss your personal requirements. ... more   less
