We stayed at Logis de L'Astree on our way driving to Spain, having found it through Alistair Sawday's Special Places to stay site. I wish we could have stayed longer. the house is amazingly historic and utterly charming with the beautiful huge courtyard. It was a scorching hot day so having the pool was fantastic. The view of the vineyards...

The host invited us to a welcome drink with the other guests where we were able to taste the wine and pineau made on the property, washed down with some yummy home-made nibbles, all...

If one is spending a few days in the Cognac region (very worthwhile) then the gites at the Logis de l'Astree are ideal. You can relax in your own little 'cottage' (with private garden space!) and rustle up fabulous meals using local produce. Or, you can just cheat and heat up a few wonderful dishes in the microwave from the...

As background we travelled 5 weeks in France with husband, wife and 4year old daughter from Australia. We booked Logis de l'Astree on a recommendation from others - being high season, accommodation was limited in the Cognac Area. Located 15 minutes from Saintes and in the middle of cognac vines we stayed one night only due to limited availability. Whilst...

Lovely property where one slips into a feeling of timelessness and comfort. A most charming hostess who is also a splendid cook. If you need to escape the rigours of modern life the Logis de l'Astree is the ideal getaway.
