We had purchased a 5pm voucher which got us, glass of fizz on arrival, B+B, late checkout in a Twin room. No glass of fizz offered, room was made as a double and when queried at reception was told "they're all made as double but you could check the other rooms on the off chance" (???) Room was lovely, comfortable, plenty of space. I had booked a table in the restaurant for dinner, over and above the 5pm deal. We were asked if we "had a voucher", I said no, but we were staying at hotel. We were therefore given a different menu, with limited choices than the a la carte, with no prices. Didn't query this as what we both wanted was on this menu. The food was lovely and the portion sizes were HUGE! We couldn't finish it all. Delicious! Intrigued as to why we were given a different menu! Slept well and breakfast was buffet style and plentiful and delicious. Late Check out was 12.30pm. I get the impression that the staff don't know what is included in the various deals and vouchers that are promoted so its all a bit of a surprise when guests arrive. That's the reason it's not a 5star review but I would return to the restaurant if down that way again.

Stayed here for one night as had an itison voucher given as a gift. From outside hotel looks ok and the reception area is nice and decorated for Christmas . However once through the door and upstairs a terrible mouldy, awful smell hits you. We had tried to upgrade but were told there was a problem with the bath in the suite. Room we were given was to the back of the hotel so no road noise. That was only positive. The room had an unpleasant odour, stained carpet, awful pillows and duvet, uncomfortable mattress,. The room was warm when we arrived but woke up to freezing room with no heating on. The bathroom was freezing from the start with a heated towel rail that did not work. The toilet was faulty and the water ran all night. Very basic tea tray with one biscuit. Food poor. Dinner the pakora was tasteless , meat in steak pie tough, mashed potatoes too salty. Breakfast not great. Would not recommend.

I stayed with my family on the 12th of September for a family wedding that was held 10 minutes away from the hotel. To start with.. me and my family had booked 4 different rooms for 8 people. 1 room for three, 2 rooms for 2 people and 1 room for myself only. Although I was staying in a room by myself, I had paid the same rate as the other 2 rooms with 2 people in it. As expected, however the difference in the rooms was shockingly bad! My room was very outdated and the other rooms where much more modern in terms of the furniture with an updated bathroom. Now I do wish the hotel could explain to me the reasoning behind charging the same rate for both the rooms when the room I was staying in was completely outdated but they could not give an explanation for this. To make things worse, I was wakened up at 5am to what appeared to be the noise of an extractor fan which I am sure this was coming from the kitchen close to the room as I could here staff moving plates around. The noise from the extractor fan meant I could not get back to sleep at all even with a film on my ipad to try and draw the noise out. Along with the noise, my room also smelt of something that I can only describe as stale, damp and a strong odour of cigarettes. On checking out of the hotel, I raised my concerns mentioned above and one of the staff members was so rude that she laughed at my complaints. The other staff member, who I did not catch the name of, was slightly more helpful but told me I should expect a call from the manager to deal with my complaint. Since leaving the hotel, I had phoned on three separate occasions in attempt to speak with the manager over the following 3-4 weeks to be told the manager was not currently in and that they would write down my complaint and get the manager to call me back. It is now the 5th of December and I am STILL waiting on the manager to call me to deal with this complaint correctly. If you are going to complain about something after staying or having a meal here and get told that the manager will phone as they are not in, please do not leave the hotel until the staff have properly dealt with the complaint as the manager certainly won’t make and effort to phone. The only positive thing I can say about this hotel is that the lady who worked in the morning during breakfast by herself to serve the guests staying was truly lovely and so helpful in every way. She is far too good to be working for this hotel. Again as the title says.. avoid like the plague unless you are going to have breakfast.
