Detailed Reviews

This is a wonderful place to stay for hiking (or perhaps biking) in stunningly beautiful countryside in the heart of the CĂ©vennes. If you are fussy for frills, don't bother; if you want to be looked after, truly cared about, have your wet clothes dried for you, have a stunning view to start out from, love the CĂ©vennes, respect direct French rustic cooking and comfort, enjoy a long table of all-comers enjoying lots of good food and wine and are fascinated by this 17th century farmhouse, this is the star place in the region. A great hikers place in great countryside - and the proprietors have bought another astonishing, still medieval hall nearby. Great walks to Pont du Tarn, the Tarn valley, L'Aubaret. I shall go again. Superbly relaxing and a great location.

Stayed for 2 weeks, could happily have stayed longer, and will definitely go back. Glorious position high in the Cevennes in open countryside with great views to the south. The beautiful stone farm buildings have all been restored by the owners, who have been there for 30+ years. Option of staying in self catering gites, chambres d'hotes or a dormitory.
Communal evening meals with delicious home cooking, mainly using produce from the farm - they grow all their own vegetables, have their own sheep, produce all sorts of pork products, plus make their own jams and honey. Very friendly family who looked after us very well. Great walking and river swimming close by (no need to get in a car to do this). Have been to other locations in the Cevennes, and would rate this the best.

Le Merlet is highly recommended. This charming farm in the heart of the Cevennes is a wonderful place to stay for a walking holiday or those seeking utter tranquility. The setting is beautiful and the rooms clean and comfortable. Meals are taken communally round an enormous table and are great fun. Everyone is charming and helpful.

After a stopover during an evening we ate there
The meal was hearty but a little expensive (31 euros) compared to the dishes offered
A price of 25 euros would seem more reasonable to me
The welcome was friendly and the setting too
Damage !!!

Does anyone know if this place is still operating? They are not responding to booking requests. I have sent two emails and also used their websites online booking request form. Would love to stay here next month (May 2015) but wonder if they are only seasonal?

Home, accommodation, aperitif, meals, everything was perfect. We stayed overnight on Stevenson's way and it was well worth the visit. Unfortunately there was no room available, but we were able to sleep at the dormitory which is very spacious. We can only recommend this address in a most idyllic location.

We spent a very good evening in one of the Merlet gîtes, after a walk in the rain and terrible weather conditions. The farm products that we tasted for dinner and breakfast were excellent, everything is homemade. The fire in the fireplace allowed us to warm up and dry our things. The cottage was very comfortable. Thanks to Perrine for everything.
