Detailed Reviews
I booked the Burlton Inn for a two night stay for my partner and I while we attended a local athletics event. Set in beautiful Shropshire countryside, I can't think of anywhere better we could have stayed. On the first morning, as we were out and about before breakfast was served, the incredibly friendly and helpful staff made up a great packed lunch for us to take along with us instead. The room was nice, no corridors to negotiate as each unit has a door that opens up directly into the gravel car park. Food on offer at this location was very nice, we had dinner on site on both nights of our stay, and were definitely not disappointed. This location is ideal for those who arrive by car, motorcycle or bicycle, but is not really in walking distance of any notable public transport as far as I could tell so that is worth keeping in mind when considering where you plan to stay. That said, for a leisurely walk in the countryside, if you don't mind rambling along public rights of way through fields, there are some great views to be had within walking distance. The only negative I could probably identify would be that there can be quite a bit of ambient noise from vehicles passing on the nearby road, especially loud farm vehicles. Being in the countryside that is to be expected though. Overall a very good stay and will definitely consider staying again in the future.

Lovely friendly atmosphere - staff couldn’t do enough for you. We fell upon the Burlton Inn on a day out with the woofers and we were not disappointed - lovely light lunch - really tasty and value for money. We will definitely be back.

I was about to book this inn from a well-known hotel site, but had a few questions about our two dogs. I messaged them on their Facebook page and had an immediate and friendly response from Dawn. Two dogs allowed, and at no extra cost. It was a very reasonable price, so we booked.
We arrived quite late, and were immediately struck by how cosy the inn was, with a roaring log burner, comfortable chairs and a good atmosphere,
We were shown to our room, which was across the courtyard, set well back from the road. The room was warm, and clean and had everything we needed for a one-night stay. The en suite was immaculately clean and had plenty of towels.
Dawn told us about breakfast (8-9) and we booked for 8.30. We unpacked and returned to the cheery atmosphere of the pub for a nightcap, listening to a pub quiz that was taking place.
We slept well, with no noise. from the country road. The dogs were happy and settled well.
In the morning we walked over for breakfast. There was a great selection on offer (cereal, croissants, juice etc., and a menu of cooked meals, all included in the room rate.
The lady that served us was chatty and very friendly and explained that everything was purchased fresh locally and cooked from scratch.
Nothing was too much trouble for her, and our dogs even got a plate of sausages each.
After breakfast we went for a stroll with the dogs in the woods behind the inn.
It was a perfect setting. If we are in the area again, The Burlton inn will be our first choice. Outstanding service and value for money.

I visited on Thursday 6th Feb, with a group of friends. We had been before (some time ago) and had a fabulous meal, and were really looking forward to it.
Firstly, the pub was very cold, despite us sitting by a radiator.
Great sounding menu, so we ordered some from the specials board and some from the main menu.
I should point out that two of the group enjoyed their food (although one later realised she had NO asparagus in her chicken & asparagus pasta!)
The rest of us were thoroughly disappointed in our food. It was barely warm, despite us being told the plates were VERY hot. The dauphinois potatoes were hard with a strange sauce underneath them. The cauliflower was hard, and the French beans were so rubbery you could wrap them around your fork, but you could not cut them. The salmon was over cooked. In fact not one item on the plate was satisfactory, and much of it was left uneaten.
It seemed to me that it had been plated up some time before, and then microwaved.
Unfortunately, although we were all thoroughly disappointed, not one of us said anything, because we didn’t want to make a fuss.
Despite being hungry still, as we had eaten little of our main courses, we did not try the puddings!
We had no desire to stay in such a cold environment & risk further disappointment, so we left as quickly as we could. It was obviously from the awkward silence as we paid, that the staff knew we were not happy.
We will definitely NOT be returning.

Party of 8 visited Saturday 1st February. The pub was not full of dinners but the service was appalling, very slow. Apparently, they had been let down by a waiter. The starters weren't bad. Most of us ordered the steak off the specials board, which by the owner was described as being in a lovely Italian sauce. What sauce, there wasn't any!. All the steaks were very overcooked, except obviously the one that was requested. The steak and ale pie was served burnt, both the pastry and the meat were black, i wouldn't have given it to my dog, in fact i didn't!. The wine tasted of vinegar and to top it all off, the men's toilet was blocked and was absolutely disgusting. How they didn't notice the smell, when the kitchen is in close proximity, i don't know. We were not the only table that complained about the food. We point blank refused to pay for these meals, to which the owners were noticeably disgruntled. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID.

We stayed in a four poster room and also dined at the Inn. The welcome and service we received throughout our stay was second to none. The room was perfect, clean and warm. The 3 course evening meal and breakfast, with toast served in a little rack reminiscent of our childhood, were delicious with a large choice available, all served by friendly and helpful owners and staff.

Set in quiet country location but near attractions and seems particularly popular with cyclists.Accommodaton is in a separate building with 8 rooms four downstairs four above.Rooms had all you might want and were functional rather than plush but a good size and clean.
Evening dinner of garlic mushroom starter and salmon mains was all excellent quality and good portions and a pint of IPA good too/Breakfast too was excellent with good friendly service and good choice and quality.Would return.

Stayed at the Burlton Inn for 2 nights on 12th May. From the minute we arrived we were made to feel really welcome as soon as we walked in the pub to check in.
Steve the manager explained everything thing we needed to know about the place.
It was unlucky that the chef had to rush off to Italy as his father had taken seriously ill but we were informed of this by Dawn the evening before we set off.
The accommodation is great as it is set across the car park from the pub itself.
The restaurant was up and running on Friday evening and we enjoyed a lovely meal.
Breakfasts were excellent and the selection of fruits, cereals and juices were first class before the full English came.
The pub and accommodation are set in the quiet village of Burlton which is situated between Shrewsbury and Ellesmere.
This was our first stay at the Burlton Inn but it will definitely not be the last.

Just back from a short break at the Burlton.
We really enjoyed our stay. We were in a very comfortable room in the adjacent accommodation block and our room had a lovely four poster bed. The staff were really friendly, especially Dawn the manager, and nothing was too much trouble. The breakfasts were beautifully cooked and made with high quality local produce. The pub currently isn't offering evening meals on Mondays and Tuesdays but we did eat in on Wednesday and our meals were really good.

It was minus 1 outdoors when we arrived, to find it was the same temperature in our room. Put the radiators on full, but it seems they need bleeding. Our room was only just aired when we left. 4 poster bed, lovely but the TV's in the wrong position, obscured by the posts. Unable to have a hot shower, due to the noise from the pipes, it would have woken the whole place. The room was clean but dated. On a high note, the staff were wonderful. Breakfast was excellently cooked by a really nice chef, ask him for poached eggs, they're perfect!
