Mellington Hall is a stunning venue, both inside and out. The roaring fire as you enter creates such a warm, homely atmosphere. Our afternoon tea was fantastic—delicious food with an impressive spread. It included mini sandwiches, warm treats like pork pie, sausage roll, and scotch egg, scones with jam and cream, and a variety of little cakes. We couldn’t finish it all, so we happily took the rest home in a doggy box.

Once we were seated, we were well looked after—Beth and a kitchen staff member who kindly checked on us and topped up our tea without us even asking, were particularly friendly. The only reason for giving 4/5 instead of 5/5 was due to our initial arrival being a little awkward.. there were no staff around to greet us and we weren’t sure where to go. After hovering for a little while and sticking our heads around doors, we eventually found them out in one of the back rooms near the bar. A small hospitality hello (or goodbye when leaving) from all staff would’ve made us feel more welcome - instead only really Beth was friendly and others seemed to avoid eye contact.

One other minor suggestion would be to switch up the music! Teddy Swims is great, but two hours of the same artist was a bit much. A mixed playlist would add to the experience.

Despite these small points, the food and setting were excellent. Thank you for a lovely afternoon!

Thank you, amberjlloyd, for your kind review following your recent visit to Mellington Hall Country House Hotel for afternoon tea. We’re thrilled to hear that the food and ambience met your expectations—it’s wonderful to know you enjoyed your experience with us. As you can imagine, Mellington Hall’s vast interior can occasionally keep our team occupied with various tasks like preparing tables and serving our seated guests. Please rest assured, this was not intentional, and we will strive to ensure a more personal touch for all our guests in the future. We’ve also taken note of your feedback regarding the music and will certainly work on offering a more varied selection to enhance the overall experience. We truly hope to welcome you back again soon for another delightful visit to Mellington Hall. With kind regards, Claire Evans Mellington Hall Country House Hotel

Wow! What a location and historic building. There are unspoilt views from windows in the dining rooms that extend as far as the eye can see across the beautiful Welsh countryside. It is difficult to appreciate the calming tranquillity of these surroundings without experiencing it.
The staff were very helpful and friendly. We had dinner in the restaurant and the food was out of this world. Traditional classics reinvented by chef Rob and his team in a way that would compete with award winning restaurants but at pub food prices. Simply amazing and the highlight of the trip.

On bank holiday sunday my siblings and I wanted to meet for a "get together" with our children, grandchildren great grandchildren, cousins, and a few friends. It was absoutly amazing! What a joyful happy time we all had. The buffet food was fresh, homemade plentiful and very, very tasty. Soon gobbled down! The real ale was very popular and in very good condition. Even had music by Andrew Pearce that the little ones and we oldies loved. This venue was perfect! Our parents were tenant farmers on the estate in 1935 and later bought the Bank farm so have many historical connections to mellington. We even all attended Mellington school! The patio, lawn and play area were perfect and the children were thrilled to be meeting their new cousins, aunts and uncles, great aunts and uncles etc. Thank you so much to Alister, Claire and family and your wonderful helpful welcoming staff. You have made this place very special, and hopefully your business will continue to flourish and give as much joy and happiness to people as was made possible for we, the descendents of Bert and Ruby Pugh,of the Bank Farm,

The site was easy to book by email with Claire (Owner) only £30 for the night a great price for this location.

On arrival we were met by Paul and Sarah (Site Managers) who took us to our pitch and ensured we knew where everything was in relation to our location. They are very friendly and knowledgeable. The pitch had electric and water perfect for our needs. As we are new to this type of camping they had useful tips to help us enjoy the stay, a big thank you to you both.

In the evening we visited the hotel bar and had drinks (reasonably priced) Dawn (Hotel Manager) and Jane (House Keeper) were once again very helpful and friendly. The hotel is worth a visit to enjoy the stately decor, plus you can sit by the open fire and relax. The menu has something for everyones taste and affordable.

We stayed for breakfast at £10 per head and were not left wanting, Claire (Chef) prepared a great feast.

The site is immaculate and has some breath taking scenery and walks all around. A site map is provided with the walks highlighted.

The ablutions were very clean and well maintained, they are only 2 minutes walk from anywhere on the park. At this moment a new shower block is being built in the area of the pitching sites.

We would recommend this site to friends and family without reservation. We plan to visit later in the year.

The site is 3 miles from Montgomery which in itself is worth a visit to walk up to the castle for its amazing views.

A massive thank you from Martin & Kayleigh

Scrumptious Sunday lunch. Firstly very friendly and efficient staff all were very polite and courteous. Beautiful hotel, beautiful ambience and lovely and warm on a chilly November Sunday afternoon. Swift service into the dining room we had a table overlooking the beautiful grounds. We all ordered the roast beef which was absolutely delicious and the beef was soft and tender it just melted in your mouth. Good selection of vegetables and all nice and piping hot extra gravy supplied when needed. we thought the desserts were a bit pricey at £8 per portion that said they were tasty. We will definitely return to Millington Hall for Sunday lunch and look forward to exploring other menus as well.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you phythian, for taking the time to post your review on TripAdvisor following your most recent visit to us here at Mellington Hall for Sunday lunch of which I am delighted that you enjoyed, whilst admiring our beautiful well kept grounds too. I would like to mention that all our deserts are home made by our professional Pastry Chef Serah, who takes great pride and time in her work to produce such wonderful sweets. Please also remember that all meals are including VAT in which case £6.66 is the actual cost of your desert to us! We very much look forward to welcoming you back to Mellington Hall Country House Hotel in the very near future. With kind regards, Claire Evans Mellington Hall Partnership LLP

Only one vegetarian choice, very disappointing. Rice & veg very bland & not worth the huge price. Not difficult to do a nut roast with the same veg etc as the other meals. Would not want to go there again unless more effort put in & the vegetarian meals reflect the price charged

We stayed in a family suite for an evening, I have to admit the bed was really soft, so much so the movement of your partner in bed made it wobble like a water bed! Gave us a good laugh. The view was amazing, the grounds astounding, and the hotel picturesque and so quiet. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves walking around the grounds, and mobile home site as well.
Staff were amazing! So friendly, couldn't fault them. We even had help carrying bags to our room, which we've never had anywhere else we've stayed before.
The breakfast was delicious, one thing I would state is that the breakfast bap came as a sesame seed bun (I didn't see it stated on the menu) but once I'd removed the seed layer it was delicious! I had seconds on the croissants as they were so fresh & light.
One or two minor niggles, the room was dusty in areas, the sofa under the seats had been missed when cleaning, the bath panel was cracked, & there were tea/coffee stains on the unit drawers below the hospitality tray. The sheets didn't fit the bed, & the quilt was a bit small, but as I said minor niggles.
The one I did forget to mention is there was no access to any hd channel on the t.v. hence there was no access to any bbc channel. Plenty of other channel options though.
One word for those who don't like spiders, we had quite a few long legged friends but the hotel is a countryside one so that can't be helped.
We were asked on our way out how our stay was, I wasn't impolite enough to roll off a list. I wasn't expecting the Ritz, hence I made no complaint. The stay was lovely, and we enjoyed ourselves, that's what matters. Would stay again quite happily.

Thank you Janet for your four star review following your stay with us here at Mellington Hall Country House Hotel. We are delighted that you enjoyed your visit and we would love to welcome you back again soon. We have addressed the tv situation - it literally took us two minutes to resolve so you could have had access to all channels whilst you were with us. We have also approached house keeping and yes, we do encounter spiders being a very old building!! We hope to see you again soon. Came for afternoon tea with a few friends celebrating my 18th birthday, they even decorated the table with a banner and confetti, the food was fresh and very tasty. The sausage rolls and scotch eggs were cooked to perfection and the cakes were delicious. 10 out of 10. Massive thank you to everyone at Mellington for making my birthday so special. Party of three stayed one night but wanted to stay for longer. Manager, Nick, great welcoming host put us all at ease with his calmness. During the evening, Nick joined us for a most enjoyable conversation in front of the crackling fire. How sensible to light an evening fire in the ‘summer.’ Delightful rooms have pastoral views, grounds are manicured and contain fabulous metal artwork. If you like trees, just look up. The hotel charges were quite high but we felt the overall experience was worth it. Mellington Hall was an oasis of calm between our day a Powis Castle and following day at Ludlow Open Gardens.

An outstanding mix of old and new. The room (2) was modern, the bathroom spotless and new, but the common areas had that old fashioned look whilst being clean and up to date if that makes sense. The food was first rate and service spot on, especially Beth at the bar. A credit to the hotel.
