Detailed Reviews
Most of the lakes in northern Italy have plenty of lakeside campsites (with the possible exception of Lake Como). But the best site we came across was away from Lake Orta in the tiny villageof Pettenasco near Orrta San Giulio and overlooking the lake. Camp Royal lacks only a swimming pool. For the rest it is superb. Quiet, yet with plenty of facitlies indoors and out for children; secluded and shady pitches; well stocked shop and those little touches not always found on 2 star sites - loo paper liquid soap and paper towels, drying racks for dishes etc etc. Friendly and helpful staff add to the stay. We would thoroughly recommend a visit.

Paolo's camping is just royal!! :)
We had an amazing view over the lake, right from our tent. Bathrooms are very clean. Paolo is very nice and helped us find the perfect hike (to Mottarone) right from the camp site.
On top of everything, the stay was cheap!
What else could we ask for?

This is a wonderful hillside terrace campingground, with only 60 sites. It has a fantastic view of Lake Orta, and all the basic services are in place. The sites are divided by old hedges, so you have a good deal of privacy. With basic services I mean bath, toilets, shop, office, wifi, pool and bar. Very fancy sorting of garbage. The clients are all sorts, families, couples and elderly. Mixed crows of nationalities. What really sets this place apart is the servicemindedness and friendly attitude of the staff. You feel like they are one family, and maybe they are. But they are so dedicated to make you have a great holiday, and feel totally welcome, its amazing. One example is that we enquired about a taxiservice to Petternasco, as we had booked a nice restaurant, and wanted to have some wine too, so we could not drive. So the owner offered to take us in his own car, back and forth. Really .... :-) Thank you Paulo, we had a wonderful night. And thanks to the whole staff - you guys and girls act like you really enjoy your job, and we guests benefit from it. We will be back.

We stayed here for two nights, having read that Lake Orta was worth visiting. I can only endorse what previous reviewers have said - this is a nice rural campsite, well run, with good clean facilities and brilliant views of the lake. It’s located in the village of Pettenasco, so it’s above the lake but because of that is very quiet and enjoys stunning panoramic views. The staff don’t all speak English, but everyone was equally friendly and helpful. A word of warning- access to the site is by some fairly hairy roads. We negotiated them in a VW campervan but I wouldn’t have liked to try it in a large van or motorhome.

Less expensive than other sites and offers a stunning view of the lake. Pool area always clean and attended. Showers hot and bathrooms well kept. Loved the little shop and bar area where you can get a cold beer or a good Italian coffee.

Our view of the lake with sparkling water, the island, twinkling lights at night is absolutely awesome! The chime of histioric church bells mixed with the twinkling of goat bells gives the site a special tranquility. The day trips around the area are exciting; charming villages, spectacular high alpine views. The local Piemont specialities are gourmet!!
We'll certainly return!

We had a 3 day stay on this site and had a good time. The personel is very friendly and helpful, lavatory and shower are as clean as one could expect.
We did some hiking in region of Pettenasco, kicked back here and there to enjoy the view to the lake of Orta and did ourself proud having delicious food and wine.

We stayed 10 days at Camping Royal and really enjoyed it. The camping is not too big and offers place to both permanent guests and "short stayers". The pitches are large enough for bigger tents, often with shade, and most of them have the opportunity to park your car close to your tent. The sanitary facilities er good, and there is a small swimming pool for children. There's also a little minimarked with bar, that has fresh bread every day of the week. The camp site staff is friendly and helpfull.

Camped in a tent here for 1 week on our travels after our first choice was fully booked. A great week despite the weather which was NOT good. The owner is really friendly and helpful and even offered us a fridge to keep our food cool. Warning. Situated up a steep hill from the village but if you are half fit this is no problem. Highly recommended. Thank You.

We were delighted to be welcomed back to this wonderful camping with its breathtaking view over Lago d'Orta. This is the most relaxing place, and we enjoyed as always the recognition, the joy, the kindness, the warmth... We will never forget you and we long to come back.
