Detailed Reviews
I just returned from a six day stay at Laqua on the shores of Lago d'Orta. I traveled there with my granddaughter: I wanted to give her a week in the beautiful setting of Northern Italy's lakes. I chose Laqua because I liked its location: Lago d"Orta is less crowded and, too, it is close to Milan. We flew into Malpensa Airport and in less than an hour we were at Laqua.
Let me just say that the resort is stunning! The units are spacious, with comfortable and very well decorated living rooms and separate bedroom spaces. Our unit had a large balcony with plenty of room for several seating options.
The setting? Absolutely stunning, right at the shore of the lake. There is an infinity swimming pool and this could not be more lovely. And of course, the food here is first rate. The chef did not disappoint!
But all this is only the beginning. What makes this place uniquely special is the staff. The concierge team is wonderful: friendly, helpful, always ready to answer any question, provide any service. And then there is Tiziano, the person in charge of the aquatic activities. He is absolutely responsible for making our stay beyond perfect. He knows this region like the back of his hand and his suggestions were spot on. We loved the hike with him into the mountains! And his suggestion of a paddle to the secret beach and waterfall on the lake was fabulous. Our week would not have have been as top notch without his helpful and tireless guidance. Many many thanks to all of you and especially to you, Tiziano! We will long remember our magical week thanks to your efforts!
Do I have any thoughts on how to do things even better? Well, I do think the owners need to clarify that a lake view room may offer a full lake view, or it may not. We thought we were renting a lake view. That was only partially the case. Honestly, the view to the pool and the twinkling lights of the dining terrace were very nice, but we were expecting to look out the window from our living room/bedroom and see the lake. You had to walk out on the balcony to get that view.
Still, the small and quiet resort is beautiful. Really beautiful. We cannot recommend it highly enough!

We arrived at this very modern boutique hotel for 3 nights and were very impressed. The location on Lake Orta is fabulous and the grounds, although small are immaculately maintained. A heated infinity pool gives great views across the lake as does the artificial beach below it. We were given a quick tour including the pointing out of two boats available for quests to borrow but what they didn’t tell us was there is €100 per hour charge. We only found that out when we were about to take it out. We still went out on it but it would have been nice to know beforehand.
The bedroom (we were in 13) was extremely nice with a separate kitchenette, small dining area and lounge area and huge balcony but the lighting is so subtle in the room, especially the bathroom, I ended up taking a mirror outside to put my makeup on!
The restaurant is also in a great position overlooking the lake and the grounds and the breakfast selection was very good.
That all said we weren’t particularly impressed by the staff. Indifferent is the word I would use to describe their attitude. No actual complaints, we just didn’t feel they were particularly bothered about us.

Dear juliejV5640SN, First of all we would like to thank you for being our valued Guest at Laqua by the Lake, and for the time spent to share your experience. You are absolutely right when you wrote that we are surrounded by a wonderful landscape, we know how lucky we are! We feel we need to apologize for the feeling perceived of not being welcomed and cared as our Guests deserve. It’s the main point of our group philosophy, and we are deeply sorry we didn’t succeed with you. We really hope to have a second chance, and to welcoming you soon again at Laqua by the Lake.

We had a lovely 5 night stay here. Very friendly staff at reception (Alberto, but also the friendly lady and the other two gentlemen we met at reception during our stay), really trying to go the extra mile when asked. Beautiful and very modern property, stunning lake views from our suite and balcony. Very comfortable beds, spacious and modern bathroom with rain shower. High quality breakfast choices and lovely setting for breakfast on terrace with fantastic lake views.
Surprisingly the staff during the breakfast did not meet the same high standards as those at reception. The two ladies serving us each morning seemed to wish they were working elsewhere, no smile, no friendly welcome at all. They appeared stressed despite serving only one or two tables and didn't seem to speak much English. The need to fill out a list 'preferences' each night for breakfast seemed pointless and odd for this level of property, especially as it then still took ages for breakfast to turn up on our table - the last morning of our stay it took more than half an hour to get any food after we sat down for breakfast. After the initial round of coffees no one bothered to ask if we wanted a refill and we had to work hard each morning to grab the attention of the waitresses for refills.
Whilst the breakfast service (not the food itself which was lovely) was disappointing, we had a lovely stay. We would just suggest to review the way breakfast is organised and provide more training to the breakfast staff.

A short stay in Laqua by the Lake was full of surprises, almost all lovely surprises .... our apartment was well appointed and even the knives in the kitchen were proper chef's knives - the owners have spared no expense in kitting out this gorgeous property with ultra comfortable beds, spacious suites and great outside spaces. The views change every hour or so as the light itself does and the reflections in the water move and swirl. The infinity pool is great (but swimming in the lake is also possible) and it is never crowded. We enjoyed out meals in the bistro restaurant, fine quality foods and wines, fresh young staff were friendly and helpful most of the time - this is a new hotel and there were occasional teething troubles, nothing serious. The cuisine is based on classic dishes by the owner-chef who is very famous in Italy, Cannvacciuolo. We loved it and would not hesitate to recommend it for a luxury holiday on one of Italy's gorgeous northern lakes.

I have visited Lake Orta many times over the years and thought I would take some friends and stay at the new Laqua by the sea. What can I say but perfect, rooms are modern and we had a beautiful view overlooking the lake. The restaurant is situated directly overlooking the infinity pool and lake, the dinner was to die for and service was impeccable, staff very attentive. After our meal we sat outside round the pit fire, photos do not do it justice. I can’t recommend enough and will definitely return

This was booked for a very special holiday on the basis of reviews so for the sake of the hotel I sincerely hope this was a one off poor experience.
First the good. The welcome from Jacob and the fantastic view from the Orta Penthouse.
The not so good:
No hot water in suite- cold shower on first morning!
Room servicing frankly awful. No jacuzzi towels first day. Second no bathroom towels/ bathmat/ toilet rolls.
Jacuzzi towels delivered late at night as we were asleep in room.
Jacuzzi cleaned ( one hour process) just at time we got back from day out. Why not check with customer when they will be out and do it the?
Restaurant provided good if very very small and expensive portioned food. No anticipation though from serving staff. Had to repeatedly get up and request coffee and other food at breakfast. Fruit dishes not replenished at buffet unless asked for.
Normal toast served to my wife who has coeliac disease( notified well in advance)
Confidence lost at that point. Service was so slow and waited almost one and a half hours for single course at dinner.
It really is upsetting to relate all this to staff on desk but to be fair the manager acknowledged and refunded cost of a meal. He assured not normal experience.
Shame is as a customer spending nearly 2000€ for a three night stay time for saying sorry has gone by and it is us that have lost out. I’m afraid we will not be back.

The whole structure of the hotel is very nice: beautiful infinity pool overlooking Lake Orta, plus the pier, where you can rent electric boats to go around the lake, is prepared with sand, sun loungers and umbrellas for those who prefer to bathe in it.
The area of the open-air restaurant overlooking the lake as well as all the surroundings of the hotel is taken care of to detail: the suite where we stayed had two areas, one for sleeping and another living room area that has kitchen with everything you need, plus a nice private garden, with lawn and sun loungers. The style of the room, as well as the whole hotel, is modern yet welcoming.
The staff is attentive and friendly, you cannot ask for more!

What an absolutely sublime place to spend a few days. We stayed in a lake front suite, which combined beautiful contemporary interiors, sumptuous comfort and the most magical view. Breakfast was varied, plentiful and everything we tried was delightful, and catered well for our vegetarian diet. We ate in the restaurant twice and had two innovative, creative and utterly delicious meals in the most bucolic of settings. We had a perfect day swimming in the divine pool and took an electric boat out on the lake which was magical, especially as we could hear the sounds of birdsong and the lapping of the water out on the lake as the electric motor was virtually silent. The only disappointing thing about Laqua by the Lake was having to leave. We will certainly return and cannot recommend this simply superlative hotel enough.

Price to quality ratio was not achieved due to unprofessional restaurant and beach club staff. Front of house was the exception but to achieve a 5 star rating a lot of improvements must be achieved. The setting is pristine and yet the hotel did not inform us that construction was underway all day long directly across the street from the pool and only restaurant.

After spending a wonderful evening at “Laqua by the Lake, I can’t help but share my enthusiastic experience.
Since our arrival the welcoming atmosphere made us feel immediately at ease.
The dinner was a real treat for the palate, every dish we tasted was a surprise, with combinations of extraordinary flavors and meticulous care in presentation.
Our friends visiting the Lake for the first time, were incredibly impressed by the high quality and refined tastes in every course.
It’s nice to see how a restaurant can leave such a positive impression, so much so that they promised to come back for another gastronomic experience.
Special praise goes to the maître d'Aula Matteo, who welcomed us and served us in the room with professionalism and a willingness that further enriched our evening.
In conclusion, Laqua by the Lake is undoubtedly a place to recommend to those seeking a high-level dining experience, where every detail is taken care of with passion and dedication.
We look forward to returning.
