The lakefront location is lovely. We swam in the lake in preference to the pool. Mind you, we not able to enter the pool because we did not have bathing caps. Be aware of this rule if you intend to use the pool.
We had a triple room, with a mezzanine and balcony. It was just big enough, but difficult once the sofa bed was opened. The sofa bed was comfortable. The mezzanine seemed a little flimsy, and the floor dipped in one part. The decor was odd and dated. The shower was, frankly, hilarious, with choices of light colour and different sprays. I giggled every time I was in there. The bathroom was functional.
For a triple room it might have been nice to have three seats on the balcony, but the outlook was nice.
We were there for a wedding and wanted to iron our outfits. There was no iron in the room so we asked at reception, and they... refused. We were not allowed to iron our own clothes because it was a safety issue. I mean, we have been ironing our clothes for decades and have not managed to cause a fire. But no, we had to give our clothes to the staff to iron. No only did we have to pay for this 'service', we had to follow up to get the clothes back in time. On this basis alone, I would not recommend this hotel.
Because the hotel takes in big tour groups it has set rules that impact all guests. Breakfast is too busy, and you cannot order eggs (for example) unless you do so for everyone at your table. But these are huge tables that you may need to share with strangers, so this does not make any sense. And good luck if you can get a barista coffee. They are good, but the queue is looong.
We ate at the restaurant one night. It is very pretty and the service was excellent. It is definitely expensive though.
This is a stunning part of Italy. The location makes the Approdo a nice option, and it is perhaps a little cheaper than some of its neighbours, but it would be worth weighing that up against the rules and the inconveniences of this hotel.

Everything was really excellent. I was there recently for an aperitif and dinner with a group of friends. I also stopped for the night, a wonderful aperitif with many non-trivial appetizers and a well-stocked cocktail bar by the pool, also favored by the beautiful sunny day. I was enraptured by the view and the delightful location, we then moved to the restaurant immersed in a very welcoming atmosphere with a 5-star service, nothing left to chance, not least the menu which offers a great variety of choice between lake fish and typical local products at zero km, excellent cuisine at honest prices, the wonderful room with a breathtaking view of the lake which is truly a pearl with intense green to blue colours, the shower in the room also has chromotherapy and you can order room service which it has a very rich dedicated menu the next day I treated myself to a visit to the spa, elegant and very clean they have a hydromassage tub in which we change the water for each customer, and I also treated myself to a massage with hot stones, the owner Michela and the professional masseuse Simona were fantastic they make you feel pampered, what can I say go there, a corner of paradise and peace on Lake Orta

A little outdated but well maintained. The rooms are large and spacious, perhaps a little more work could be done on the comfort of the beds, which are however very large. The staff is very nice and friendly, the breakfast is abundant and complete. Parking is convenient. Really nice pool area overlooking the lake, very large and spacious for swimming and enjoying the sun. The hotel is located 2 km from Orta San Giulio, not passable on foot, but only by car because the only connection is the highway. Alternatively, during the day there are two boats that connect the hotel's marina with the town centre. I recommend the hotel restaurant which is very good.

very unloving ambiance. The staff is not very friendly (except for the reception). The room was very small, and I have never seen a smaller TV in a hotel room, see picture. In the corridors the paint is peeling off the walls. The breakfast is also under average. When asked if I could have an egg, the answer was: "the kitchen is still closed".
Do not go to this hotel.

This is a hotel and restaurant review.
Nice spot on the lakes edge
Hotel is spotlessly clean, although a 4 star hotel as a well travelled traveller I question that.
Rooms somewhat odd. Steps, step down to the balcony, bathroom can be big or small, my towel radiator couldn't be turned on. No instructions for anything, when I needed reception I had to walk down. Tea and coffee sachets are not replenished daily.
Dogs in rooms barking all hours, yes dogs!
Food was somewhat hit and miss.
Staff first class but reception staff can be sharp

I can never remember having such dire food. This is a 4* establishment supposedly and I didn't enjoy one meal all week. I love Italian food but not the way it is served here. Vegetable lasagne served cold as a starter, ravioli served with no sauce whatsoever, Leek and potato soup. I shall describe this soup. Centimeter cubes of potato filling a large dish with a tiny amount of liquid at the bottom. No trace whatsoever of leeks. Cold roast beef served with a cold splodge of possible wine gravy and cold vegetables. It was horrible. I could go on. Service was dreadful. One person would be served fish, ten minutes later another would be served meat and ten minutes later the veggie option would appear. No table ate together. Inexperienced staff were in abundance and the 'wine waiter' , when asked on the first evening the price of a glass of wine said he didn't know. My room was clean and spacious but very corporate. No character whatsoever. I could have been in any country in Europe. This is a hotel for travellers who wish to stay a night or so, there's little to entertain as it's situated in a village with a supermarket, church and campsites. The lake walk is lovely until you've done it ten times as there's nowhere else to walk. The pool is lovely I have to add. But I came away hungry and frustrated by the poor service in the restaurant.

We spent 3 night at this resort. Our room 207 faced the lake but the view was obstructed by a massive tree. The room is of a decent size and the bed quite large and comfortable. However the bathroom definitely needs updating. The shower is small and has a very slippery floor. Poor lighting and we arrived no toilet paper. The spare toilet paper roll is hidden underneath the sink.

The food at the Restaurant is good but the service is poor. We ordered some pre dinner drinks and after about 20 minutes my husband went to look for our drinks. They were ready at the bar and no waiter in sight.
The staff is also not clearing up tables once you have finished with one course. Our pre dinner drinks were still on the table when we had coffee!!!!

The hotel has ramps inside and wheelchair accessible toilets. But there are no parking spots for disabled customers.

All in all - for us no return.

4* unworthy. After only 1 night back home with screaming tires! Already in January we booked 2 rooms for our family in hotel L’approdo. However, we were unpleasantly surprised on arrival by the fact that the rooms were not located next to or together but we got (in August) 2 rooms on different floors and also in other parts of the hotel. Not what you want. Even on arrival we could not leave the car because "the hotel was fully booked" according to the staff. Then arriving at the rooms turned out to be not only small, but also an uncozy Furnished and there was a lot to be desired: a very small and impractical bathroom, a sewage smell in the bathroom, very bright and uncozy lighting, an air conditioning placed right above the bed that was also noisy, an uncozy balcony (with a view of the lake) that was accessible through a defective sliding door that was probably last painted 20 years ago and last but not least the room turned out to remain warm (despite the air conditioning) and was also noisy. The breakfast also turned out to be of a moderate quality (eg sticky bread and little choice in terms of bread) and the dining room was dated and uncozy. When we had expressed our displeasure at the reception we were confronted with staff without self-reflection or showing any service or customer friendliness and they also discussed. Our decision was made: we are leaving.

This unsociable hotel is far from 4* worthy and was a great disappointment for us.
Past glory...

Spent a week at the Hotel on a HB basis. The Hotel setting on the shore of Lake Orta is ideal and the views from the pool and restaurant are fantastic. The Hotel is exceptionally clean, all the staff are friendly and welcoming. The set menus for the Group varied and it depended on the choice available which was rather limited - some evenings could not be faulted and others were not so good and service could be slow at times. Breakfast was great with plenty of choice. The room which I had (102) had all the facilities you could wish, was spacious and clean, but had absolutely no view at all except for the passage to the restaurant through a window at the side so avoid if you can.

We stayed in this hotel for a week and we spent a really pleasant period. The staff was very kind and helpful, good food was served every night, just one evening we had to wait a little longer.
Breakfast served in a room right in front of the swimming pool was rich and with a lot of choice.
The room is simple but clean and spacious, I just suggest to book a lake side room if you want to enjoy the stunning view.
The village is small and the weather was bad, so without a car in this case you do not have a lot to do…
