Detailed Reviews
… bizarre decoration in public and bedrooms and not particularly comfortable furniture.
Bathroom not the best… everything sort of works but shower complicated to work out.
No restaurant or breakfast service… also no kettle in room. There is a vacuum jug which I finally worked out was provided for me to go down the precipitous staircase to fill from a kettle in the forbidding public/area.
This was not explained, see below, nor was the system for obtaining a drink from the beer fridge.
In terms of the staircase… deep tiled steps. Not recommended for the elderly, infirm or for young children. Actually, anybody… especially if its a wet day
The staff did not engage at any time other than to take money for a beer with a grunt. You almost had to guess the price. Customers were clearly an interruption to their day.
This is probably the first hotel in the world that I would not recommend in any way shape or form.
2 points because I did sleep well… partially because the mattress actually wasn’t that bad and partially because I found a shop across the road that sold a bottle of fairly drinkable local vodka

Although it's nothing fancy, this place is conveniently located, clean and tidy. It has clean sheets, warm water, and a standard toilet - none of which is normal in this part of the country. There was a heater in the room, so we weren't cold, even though it was cold outside 50F/10C. The staff is pleasant and the prices are fair. (200,000 Kip for deluxe family size room -- about $US 25)

Modern hotel with spacious rooms and bathroom, hot water available, wifi and tv. Clean as much as can be expected.
The restaurant was closed, even for breakfast. Staff speaks no english and didn’t seem to be interested at our needs...

There is little positive to say about this 'hotel' except that it is located near the centre of town. The receptionist speaks no English. Rooms are overpriced considering how poor they are. The bathroom is is worst aspect of the room - no hot water (and Sam Neua is cold in the winter) for the shower and no water at all for the sink. Standards of cleanliness are questionable. Rooms have a small TV but no English language channels. Beds are ok. I was very happy to check out of this depressing hotel.

I didn't stay at this hotel but I did make a reservation for two nights in August of this year-2018.The reservation was handled over the telephone by somebody calling herself Ms.Thaen.Upon arrival-following a 10 hour bus journey from Phonsavan-I tried to check in but was promptly told that the hotel was full-some conference or other. The people I spoke to at reception made it clear that I had no further business there and wanted me to leave immediately.Needless to say I did not!!Eventually I got speaking to some man on the telephone who directed me to a guesthouse next door-an annex of the hotel,perhaps?....I spent the two nights there Nobody from the hotel visited me afterwards to see if everything was ok...The way I was treated at reception when I tried to check- in was dismissive and unacceptable...I cannot recommend this hotel at all as being told over the telephone that there will be a room available upon arrival is NO guarantee that that will be the case....Avoid this unreliable hotel.

quite comfortable place, the room condition is well maintained (so it's always clean and tidy, especially compare with the other around this town) and definitely with reasonable price.
the weather in Xamnuea always cool and terrible cold during in winter season.
from the hotel we can easily walk to a (small) bus terminal or just spend a little bit time walk to downtown market to explore and taste some local food as well.

To be fair, our needs were met at this hotel, but all we wanted was a comfortable bed, quiet room and working shower. I suspect that if we had needed more we would have struggled! We had an interesting walk up in to the town. This is well off the main tourist routes.

There are not a lot of choices in this area and this hotel may be one of the better ones around. It was comfortable and clean enough for us. It seemed centrally located to the markets and several eating establishments. It was nothing to write home about but it was fine for us.

Terrible lady at the reception spoke no English (or pretended not to...) while we waited for our bag of laundry. It had to be ready the night before (we allowed 24 hours to wash it), but when we came the next morning to collect it, they still had to start...
No apologies, no explanation, nothing. Worst of all: they tried to charge an extra kilo and when we weighed our bag of clothes together, the price per kilo would suddenly be higher (she told my Lao friend)
There are more hotels in this ugly town. No idea why someone would stay there anyway. Better drive to Vieng Xai and find some place there, where the restaurants are nicer as well. And you won’t wake up at 6:00 am by communist-style music from the load speakers in town.

+1
Terrible place, worst hotel we stayed at on our recent tour of Vietnam and Laos. Arrived after dark and from the exchange between our guide and the woman on reception, showing him empty pages in a book, it was apparent that they had not entered our booking in the system. She had no English whatsoever and during our stay made no attempt to commuicate or smile pleasantly, very ignorant.
After this she gave our guide a room key and turned away - no one to carry our bags up the stairs - no lift in this place.
The room smelt damp and musty and the bathroom of dirty drains, furthermore there was no hot water and we were forced to take cold showers as our guide was returning to take us to eat, obviously it was useless trying to communicate with said receptionist. (We later returned to find hot water, it had been turned on, we believe it takes a while to heat up - and we had not been told this, but it should have been hot for our arrival). We could only get two short showers from the water.
Washbasin only had cold feed, no hot water to wash hands with.
There were only 2 bath towels no small towel to wash hands/hair with and the bathroom was set up as a wetroom, the only problem being the water did not drain away properly and the loo seat was wet all night, we didn't have a foot towel to wipe it dry with, just our bath towels.
No tea bags in room, emergency light (battery operated) did not work and TV only foreign channels. Wifi - forget it none in the room despite there being a router outside it - which seemed not to be working.
Restaurant had a pile of bags at the back wall - possibly full of linen? and you came down to breakfast, to a motorbike parked in there as well. The breakfast was Ok and plenty of it but had spreading cheese and butter but no knives in the place to spread them with.
The next day we came back to find our bed half made with the blanket and duvet taken off and folded at the side, plus the extra towel our guide had got us had been taken away and again only two towelsleft!
The curtains were closed due to fact view was a brick wall next door.
The room was cold and the heating did not work.
They say they do not do evening meals but on the second night there were around 10 people eating in the restaurant, not that we wanted to but it seems it will be opened for certain people.
Not impressed.
