I had wanted an early checkin at 9am but my reservation was pretty much, shall we say, difficult to resolve. Eventually after leaving my luggage at the concierge I checked in after 12noon to a room that was clean and fresh.
Unfortunately some problems calling the technician to look at my air conditioning and lighting in the room took a while. This forced me to wait in the room for almost an hour plus, which I could have used to go down to the pool. Eventually the technician very kindly replaced a light bulb at the bedside and relooked at the airconditioning which suddenly improved.
Other than that, I ordered room service which was a very good bowl of soup buntut(oxtail soup) and nasi goreng harmoni which was filled with satay, ayam goring, fried egg and worth the price.
On another point, the buffet breakfast at Harmoni Hotel has seen better times but it has certainly got variety. I particularly liked the roti jala and miso soup. The staff there too are always friendly and kind, in particular this very kind and attentive slightly older gentleman there(I forgot his name, so sorry, kind sir)
Now with regard to the coronavirus, nothing happened all through my stay. The only indication I had was having to fill a travel declaration form at the ferry terminal at Harbour Bay and being scanned by a big machine(I’m no medical expert!) on entry there. Travel Safe everyone!
There is a swimming pool on the top floor which we did not have the inclination to swim as it was really hot and the landscaping around the pool was at its bare minimum.
Breakfast was relatively ok, considering this is Batam.
Do not order the room service cheese cake which taste horrible. We only took a bite. Yaks!
The spa was good though and we had a great relaxing 2 hr massage.
Shopping was so so. All those hype, so over-rated.

But very soon our friends informed us of a big problem they faced the night before - BEDBUGS! Itching in the middle of the night prompted them to inspect the bedding where they found 3-4 of the critters engorged with blood. After calling reception, housekeeping came with insecticide to spray the bed and mattress and changed the sheets. So as soon as we got to our room, we pulled off all the sheets and inspected our bedding. Thankfully we didn't find anything and the remaining 2 nights for both rooms was bug free although every itch made us take an uneasy look. We also dreaded the fact that we might be bringing back the bugs or eggs and infesting our homes so we visited the Laundromat to wash everything in hot water even before heading home.
Maybe its our friend's bad luck to get the room with the bedbugs as it was only a few bugs and not really infested and could have been left there by the previous occupant. But it was bad enough to affect our holiday and we also wished the management had proactively offered more options and followed-up than to just send someone with insecticide.
That issue aside, generally everything else was average. Our friend's room had a King bed but our identical room only had a queen so we requested for an additional rollaway bed. Good things: Friendly staff, bathtub, nice spa. Breakfast spread was not bad but the juices were not right as the dispenser was not switched on to let the mechanism mix it properly. Location is also not bad as fast food and minimart is next to the hotel and its a 5 min walk to Jodoh Centre.
The bedbug issues and everything else being average means we'll probably be trying another hotel in the area the next time we're back.
Next to the hotel is a KFC on the left and McDonalds on the right so eating is not a problem. There is also a VERY nice and Expensive Korean restaurant on the hotel premises. If budget is not a problem, go for dinner here. We have a very authentic Korean dinner but it charges in Sing Dollars! Haha..
Overall very nice and comfortable stay here.
Cons: Musky smell at lobby. Noisy traffic from main road. Able to hear neighbouring rooms knocking.
