Most people wouldn't think of Block Island for a January getaway, but it was extraordinary. We flew in on a single engine plane for an overnighter and walked from the airport straight to 1661 Inn. I had talked to Sonja, the winter manager, the day before and she assured me there were plenty of rooms. Well, I believe ALL of...

Block island is a dream in winter. A quiet escape. The 1661 inn is very close to the ferry, close to the beach and to a farm. The island is perfect for hiking. Especially during the winter there is almost no traffic. The inn is charming, the rooms are clean, comfortable and decorated with taste. There is a lot to...

Our room was spacious, with a jet-tub equipped loft, a wrap-around deck and great view of the ocean and sunrise. The Inn also provided a delicious breakfast brunch and evening drinks reception daily. Great experience! We will be back!

We stayed here for Thanksgiving on Block Island, which is a tradition. From the moment we arrived on property right through beyond check-out, everything was stellar. The room exceeded our expectations, and it was one of the few times where the photos were accurate. The attention to detail was spot on. When the staff say to ask if you need...

The front desk pretty young lady was very helpful an kind. The ferries were not running the next morning and she was on the phone helping guests to either spend another night or with airport info. Steve showed us the farm and we loved seeing his lovable animals. I would highly recommend the 1661 House. We are B&B owners too...

My husband and I spent 4 nights here (Sat-Tue) in early November for a mini-getaway. With only 2 ferries a day, and being one of the few inns that are open, there was a fair amount of check-in traffic for off-season. Rita was so friendly and responsive to all of her guests and no one seemed put out by a...

Pleasant seaside inn with extremely helpful and cheerful staff. Rates are high on BI but our room was very large (king bed almost looked small;-)) and extremely clean and comfortable. Lots of closet space. Loved the breakfast on the beautiful porch. We had a lingering issue with luggage which kept us in communication with the inn for several days after...

Leaving our car behind we came with bikes and plans to enjoy both the beauty that abounds on this lovely island and the 1661 Inn. Not disappointed for a moment the abundant morning breakfast at the Inn started us fueled for the day and our full kitchen enabled savory meals in the evening. We also dined at Kimberly's who like...

I surprised my husband with a stay at the 1661. We stayed in the Adrian Mitchell cottage. I prearranged to have the fire lit and the champagne chilling for our arrival. It was perfect, warm and cozy with an incredible expansive view of the pond and Atlantic ocean. The decor in the cottage is what you would hope for on...

Decided on a whim while in Newport with another couple to escape by ferry to wonderful Block Island. Visited the friendly, helpful folks at the Newport Visitors Center, who helped us find this amazing property at a last minute discount. Although the price was still high for these budget travelers, the inn and the experience far exceeded our expectations. Incredible...
