We've been coming to La Joletière for years now, drawn both by the location in the heart of the really magnificent Mervent Forest and by the welcoming atmosphere of the site itself.

This is not a big site. It doesn't have all the whistles & bells. What it does have is very pleasant and helpful new owners (who have really started to leave their own mark on the site), an excellent heated / covered swimming pool that is fabulous for children, generous sized pitches, a good play area and a very serviceable bar / restaurant.

An easy walk from the village of Mervent (and the local authority have just invested in new paths) and a number of restaurants. The whole of the forest is on the doorstep - it is possible to walk for hours in magnificent near solitude.

The site has pitches for tents, caravans / motor homes and there also a number of mobile homes / chalets for rent.

This is a lovely, quiet, site and is absolutely ideal for family holidays.

We arrived here on a very hot day and were very pleased to see the well shaded plot we were given, with high hedges and some trees to keep the sun off. The plots are well laid out and roomy, our had its own water tap as well as electricity.
The site has a swimming pool which always puts the price up, whether you use it or not, but it was popular with families as you'd expect.
There were some problems with the hot water systems while we were there: the washing up area had none, and it appeared that some campers also had issues with their hot water in the chalets. The engineers were in putting them right as we were leaving, however.
We didn't feel that the management were that welcoming, and other campers said the same thing, but we still had a good stay. The nearby town of Mervent is a pretty enough place with a small grocery store but not a lot more in the way of shops. There is a tourist information centre, however, and a water sports centre which we personally made good use of hiring canoes twice, next to a lakeside/café restaurant.

Small campsite, with smallish typical French pitches separated by mature privet hedges. Very friendly English speaking staff.
Well spaced accessible hookup points and drinking water supplies with proper taps and threaded outlets to enable easy refilling.

Covered swimming pool, free wifi around reception and small shop and restaurant open in main season.

Shower and toilet facilities appear to be original and could really, REALLY do with upgrading and refurbishing, but if you've been to Southern Italy and Sicily, then you will have seen much worse.

We had booked this campsite but the man at reception was so bad mannered , it was difficult to deal with him . he gave us a site and said come back later when his wife could speak English as it was evident he was not prepared to try any English and was impatient with my attempt to communicate in French . He allocated a site which we didn’t like , small , quashed in between 2 tents . We couldn’t get out of the place quickly enough . We had paid a deposit but knew by his attitude no way would we get it back so we cut our loses and left . Scary awful site , we were relieved to leave . I’d give it 0 stars if this were possibly . One of the worst sites and I’ve been to France a lot . Disappointed as we had to go try find somewhere else quite late . Overall a bad experience !!

All night outside drinking party was allowed which was still going at 06.30!
Strangely owners had a note on their accueil saying ' they were not available this evening!'.
Very primitive toilet block and disabled facilities non existent.

Cordialement.
