We have been coming to this hotel every year for the last 2 decades and it had been a marvellous place to stay…had. To be fair, their consistently good views, varied breakfast and helpful pool staff are qualities to celebrate. But there is a vibe of an old giant trading on past glories. The beds are so hard that you have to have very good abs to get up, the paint around the outdoor pool is as crusty as me in the sun after few days and indoor pool has more chemicals in it than Ypres at the height of 1915. Pre-payment for rooms seem a bit of a further punch in the face. The rather dark water coming out of the bath taps are an odd choice of colour. And though we toast to the health of this place in the marvellous bar with terrific bar staff, we can’t help but think that the trading on past glories has finally run out of steam. Now, we might be in the minority as the world’s great and good continue to visit and so they should, but after years of loyal yearly attendance we must doff our cap to time, who is doing a terrific number on a previous titan of Sesimbra, now tired, and even itself desiring a holiday of its own. We have recently spent a week here & we had a fantastic time . The hotel has fantastic facilities & is absolutely spotlessly clean with very friendly & helpful staff . The breakfast was particularly good & very varied - something for everyone! The pool area was splendid with a plentiful supply of sun loungers & parasols . Towels & bedding were fresh every day f required . Obrigado ☀️🇵🇹
Booked this based on location and price. I was there to do some diving and this hotel was on the doorstep. Driving to it is not straight forward, especially if you just want to drop someone off. Once inside, reception staff were there to instantly greet me. From other hotels I have stayed in before in Portugal, they just require an ID e.g. your driving licence.. I had 4 forms of ID with me but they insisted they needed my ID number!! I explained to them that British people do not have an ID number. Luckily I remembered my passport number so they accepted that. They then gave me a brief of where everything was. The hotel itself was clean and tidy. It has an indoor heated pool, great for this time of year, and an outdoor pool. There is a bar with some fantastic views of the beach, especially from it veranda. I'd say this without a doubt is the selling point of the hotel. Rooms are on 9 floors split into 2 complexes. Therefore you need to take a lift down to floor 5, walk along the corridor to then get into lifts for floors 1 to 5. This also takes you to the beach from where you can exit (reception is top floor where the car park is). The room was lovely and did the job. Great view from it as well. Minus points, the TV was the size of an i-pad and there was no kettle or tea/coffee. Bar prices were ok e.g. it was 5.50 euro for a pint of Heineken. breakfast was a mixture of continental and cooked, but it didn't start until 8am which was a bit of an issue for me having to be at the dive centre by 8:30. Over all I would happily stay there again at the price I paid. Location is great and views fantastic.…
We are not discussing the regulations put in place by the Portuguese government, but the attitude of the management and staff of the hotel. On 23 December, a quick covid test was accepted by staff for check-in. On 3 January, these measures had apparently changed and only an antigen test was accepted. On 6 January we were not informed about this, as we had returned from the Azores where other regulations are in force. On arrival at the hotel we were treated with condescension and contempt by the reception staff. They were amused at the idea that their guests were going to spend the night in the car, despite a paid reservation. The information that a test was available at the village pharmacy in three weeks' time was nothing short of contemptuous. This attitude is unacceptable. Under the current conditions, whose only aim is to drive tourists out of Portugal, an honest and customer-oriented management should: 1. Renounce non-cancellable reservations until the last moment. 2. Warn its customers by e-mail, at least one day before check-in, of the change in rules. 3. Provide a list of locations with schedules where an antigen test can be performed. Following this distressing reception, the management did not come to talk to us the next day. They are simply indifferent to their customers. A shame.…
Enjoyed 8 days at Hotel Do Mar. Its a minute from the beautiful clean sandy beach. The 70's styled hotel is built into the steep hillside. Access to the floors is therefore split between separate lifts at about floor 5. We found our rooms comfortable with good aircon. The rooms have a cottage style with dark wood windows, blinds, doors and cupboards The en-suite facilities looked relatively new and all functioned well. We found the hotel staff helpful and attentive. Covid rules were being carefully followed and the place was spotlessly clean. The buffet breakfast room and bar enjoy stunning views across the bay. The hotel garden has mature trees and lawn areas. The pool was clean and well maintained; plenty of sunbeds available. For families there are about 20 steps from the lower lift to the beach. The seafront is mainly pedestrian and level. Sesimbra is a quiet village. Aside from the excellent beach it has a working fishing harbour and the local restaurants have the freshest fish. This was a new find for us. Its about 35 minutes from Lisbon. There are some bus services from Sesimbra, but a car will be required to tour the area.…
An extremely well kept , kind of outdated hotel on a perfect location in sezimbra. It's over 50 years old and it has kept the 70style , which is charming . Spotless clean , very friendly staff . Walking distance from the restaurants. Highly recommended
The hotel has an outstanding location, but does not deserve 4 stars, it needs urgently remodelling, very old. Nevertheless it is very clean! But the worse, is the STAFF, very rude and you do not feel Welcome, it is like being under militar command, they do not inform you about the rules, but they act like you being a criminal! Very LATE CHECKIN and VERY EARLY CHECKOUT!!! It seems they do not have enough staff to clean the rooms, so the client has to leave early so they can do the cleaning for next customer. Maybe due to Covid-19, they reduced the STAFF, there is not enough staff in the Hotel for the number of customers they have around, waiting time for breakfast is acceptable, the dining room has available tables, but Not enough staff!!! So, if you do not mind feeling not welcomed, do not mind a place needing urgent remodelling, have no more than 20 hours for your hotel stay (if you ask for early check in or late check out, you will feel like a criminal “asking to leave jail!”), go to Hotel di Mar, very good views and two steps from the sea!!! One star is for one of the worse Staff I have seem in a Hotel!!!!…
Amazing sea view and location. Very nice personnel @ reception. Great pool and garden, easy access to the sea Cosa non è piaciuto · Breakfast very basic, very old furniture and updated building. The hallways reminded me of the film “shining”.
Lovely hotel and staff with great location just a few meters from the beach. The indoor pool needs some improvements and updating, but overall, it is a lovely hotel. The rooms are clean and the hotel bar is lovely. They also do a fantastic breakfast spread which really sets you up for the day.
This hotel has kept the charm of the coastal hotels of the old Europe, but with the modern comfort. Every room is spacious, be it the many sitting rooms, the bar, the restaurant, the various terraces, the rooms and their own balconies, the pool areas... The view from every corner of the hotel, at any hour of the day, is stunning. The decor is classy traditional yet comfortable. The rooms and bathrooms are full equipped (fridge, TV, A/C, large balcony facing the sea, etc....) and very clean. The beddings are extremely comfortable. The breakfast is generous. I would suggest however, as I missed it, a tray of complimentary tea and coffee in the room.
