I loved La Fenice...It is indeed rustic, but I found it wonderful. The people were so kind and accommodating. They went out of their way to accommodate me in many ways. When I arrive just a little too late for dinner, they made me a wonderful dish of pasta with a portobello sauce. The breakfast was lovely and generous. The location is a bit remote ( I didn't have a problem finding it) but it turned out to be a good location to see many interesting sites in the area. My room was basic, but very comfortable. I slept well. I was happy to be able to hike out into the landscape on the many trails that are well marked. I loved seeing the animals. I only stayed 2 nights, but would like to spend longer to experience more of the farm aspect. My only issue was no wifi in the room. The wifi is very good in the main dining room and I sat there and worked, but I prefer to have wifi in the room. Other than that I loved La Fenice and will definately return.…
Heeding prior tips, we booked a room in the Tower building, and it turned out to be a huge two-story suite. (the other room we were offered in the main house was similarly large) The Tower is a new-ish building crafted to look like an old castle but with modern plumbing, electricity, internet, etc. It feels authentic, including the stone walls, smallish windows, and many stairs. Note that the Tower is about 1 km drive (half that to walk) from the main house where breakfast is served. The setting is the real draw here -- in the middle of rolling hills, some of it forested, some open farmland. Fresh, clean air, no city or traffic noises. The night sky is full of stars. The restaurant was closed when we were there, but breakfast was excellent with many choices of cheese, meat, and pastry. Remo sent us one night to dinner in Tole at Albergo Stella, which served terrific regional food. Tole is the closest town, about 3 km away. Would definitely stay here again.…
La Fenice is located in the hills among trees and farms. It's a great property with traditional old stone buildings. Our room was cozy and warm. The bathroom was clean and the shower had very good water pressure. We took a morning stroll around the surrounding fields and farms. Very nice! The breakfast was good, with some local cheeses and meats, and a selection of cakes and preserves. Coffee is made to order on the espresso machine. Hit the spot on that cold morning. The restaurant was closed that day but we were given a tour of the kitchen where the chef was preparing weekend meals. Smelled great and the hand made pasta looked wonderful. Would definitely like to go back and eat the food!
This was the worst place we have ever stayed in Italy. It was nothing like the photos in the web site which must have been taken either a long time ago or very very selectively. Our room was dark, dreary and not clean. There is 'rustic simplicity ' and just plain tired and past it. The food in the evening was good especially dinner on Sunday evening when local meats and cheeses were served. The breakfasts were poor with little choice and the cheapest options provided. The trouble is that the journey to get here is so long (although pleasant) that you are trapped. Otherwise we would have left immediately and gone somewhere else. The people were pleasant enough but that can't make up for accommodation that is well below any standard which one is paying for. Need to address the honesty of the publicity or do a complete overhaul to be fair to future guests. I don't enjoy doing bad reviews but integrity makes me write this in respect of potential future visitors. …
This could have been a real gem of a place, tucked away in the beautiful hills south of Bologna...but sadly it is not! It was difficult to find as it is not signposted well at all, the pool area was nothing like the photographs on their website....the food was average and we found our rooms where 1km walk away from the main building........ The service was poor and there is absolutely nothing to do there..... So unless you are really looking to get away from it all since there is no telephone reception, no wifi, no tv, don't stay here!! The rooms were in an old renovated tower but the steps up where really dodgy & loose, the beds were tiny and very hard, the bathroom & shower were too small for an average size person and there were funny tea towels instead of proper towels..... Since there are no curtains and there is a cockerel living right under the window, don't expect to get any sleep past 4am in the morning.....…
