The hotel is really easy to find if you arrive in Västervik by train or bus. From the train station just cross the railway tracks and you find the bus station to the left and the hotel right in front of you. On the right hand side of the hotel there is a big public free parking. Fängelset translates The...

Management had lost our booking and they gave us their conference room instead. This was large but not in one of the cells and we almost had to apologize for wanting to see the room because it was "much nicer" than the cells. When we tried to explain that we would have liked a cell, they first refused but then...

Prisons are not build for comfort, so turning it into a hotel carries with it some challenges. A presumably one-man cell turned into a two-person hotell room does not leave much space. Put in two narrow beds and the room is cramped. There was a small table and one wooden chair. No space for hanging clothed. A very spacious and...

Ever been in JAIL??? This is your chance, sleep in a former jail which was active until end 2000 Then renovated with taste to deliberately keep the old authentic atmosphere. The rooms were surprisingly comfortable and gave all you need , including a good bathroom We slept really well and the breakfast was ok, not luxurious but plentyful and fresh....

We visited this hotel in May 2014 . As you can see it is an ex prison and we loved it. We stayed in the office rooms and found it spacious . We had a flat tv , fridge, cooker , microwave, kettle and hairdryer. Give it a try . You will be surprised.

I spent one night in Västervik, in the Hotell Fängelset, with my family. Västervik was a nice and calm small Swedish town, and the hotel nice and clean, only a short walk from the town centre. The breakfast was quite simple but sufficient, and the staff very friendly. We had a family room, big enough for the 5 of us....

The room (cell) was nothing special, extremely basic, but the bed was good and price was right The beer from the inhouse brewery was not bad. Also the grilled salmon from the BBQ was very good. Breakfast was extremely basic.

Fun hotel to stay at with family. The familyroom is very spacious with plenty of space for five persons. The familyroom has it own bathroom so you do not have to share with anybody. And a small kitchenette. But of course, if you are not traveling with small kids, ask for the cell! They looked very authentic. A lot of...

Now this is a place to visit and a really great experience. I was a tiny bit concerned leaving UK after my wife booked this hotel. Most of the stops were 5* hotels in Belgium and Denmark. A converted prison used as recently as 2008 sharing toilet and shower facilities sounded rustic!!! We loved it, friendly totally, spotless better than...

Really cool hotel, in an old prison! Simple but full of character, I've stay here 4 times and its in a good location, reasonably priced. Lots to see and do in Vastervik, I've always rented a bike from the hotel and cycled around.
