It is very difficult to go to a hotel and like everything but we did . It is an amazing hotel and what makes it amazing is the professional staff and most of all the bar man carlos he is a very kind and does everything to make sure the guest is well treated and honestly he did his job amazing we loved his character so much that we kept going regularly to the bar 🙂 thank you for the lovely stay and biggg well done to carlos keep up the good work ♥️♥️

Labranda Riviera is a lovely modern hotel. We had a 3rd floor sea/pool view room with balcony (no. 333) which was huge with nice bathroom and big open shower cabinet. Lots of storage space, big fridge, great 3 speed aircon, 31” TV but the only TV news channel I could find speaking English was French TV? We were on all inclusive which was well worth the extra cost I read a few reviews on Tripadvisor where people complained when they got home and the reply from Labranda management was always “You should have told us in person and we could have fixed” well I took this on board but it turned out to be a BAD IDEA! Everyone had a problem getting served in the Comino bar on 1st floor as they were badly understaffed and it was taking an hour plus to get a drink especially when the entertainment was on between 9pm-11pm. There was also a queue of people downstairs at the Lobby bar where people were going down to get a drink and bringing it back upstairs as this was a quicker option. The poor bar lady in the Lobby bar on her own had the patience of a saint and was very professional trying to serve so many irate people. This was 15ft from the entrance to the Mirasol restaurant where there were 2 people ticking off your room number as you went in and could see the queue but never offered to help serve? I went to reception on day three and told them that they needed more staff serving in the bars and was passed on to the very polite assistant manager who said the problem was caused by Covid and getting staff from abroad due to visa problems. I’m guessing Covid is going to be the stock excuse for several years to come for any problems encountered. I suggested they needed another person in the Lobby bar and at least 3 more in the 1st floor bar and pointed out that there were a lot of cafés, bars and restaurants at nearby Mellieha Beach 2km up the road with good bus service and if they paid good wages they would probably have lots of applicants. Lots of apologies but no solutions and I think the management have their hands tied and are not allowed more staff because Labranda hotel group are recouping losses from the last 2 years and are not willing to pay more wages. I have to say that the waiters and waitresses were always very busy and hard working but the hotel only appeared to be 1/3 full last week so if they are having staff shortage problems now what will it be like when it starts filling up now that tourists can travel to Malta. Anyway the reason I say it’s not a good idea to complain at the hotel is that I noticed the guy checking you into the restaurant pointing me out to a couple of staff in Comino bar and from then on I had an even slower service with the wrong drinks delivered and even drinks with an odd taste which I had to take back! The other disappointment was that even though I pre emailed a month before my stay for a late checkout and received a reply saying I could have the room complementary until 15:00 and maybe later for a small fee if I checked the day before checkout but when I went to reception as advised I was told I had to vacate at 11am even after I showed my email reply. Told to come back on checkout day to see if any room available but got a no then as well. I also had the maid knocking on the door at 08:15 to tell me I had to get out of the room by 11am..Thanks! Lifts were a nightmare and appear to be setup to always go up to floor 5 no matter where you are when you press for it then come back down 1 floor at a time. Supposed to only allow 1 person at a time if not in same household/group but that would be impossible and everyone just piled in .. some people maskless too. Entertainment in Comino bar every night was varied and excellent. Plenty of sunbeds but like I said the hotel only appeared to be 1/3 full last week. You need to move around the pool area if you want to stay in the sun and be careful of the wet tiles - very slippery and we saw several people with injuries by the end of the week probably caused by this? Big jacuzzi next to main pool was empty the whole week which we were not aware of before we arrived. Probably due to Covid? Don’t lay downwind of the big sunbed umbrellas as they are not fixed to the concrete block and can sometimes take off! We saw 2 fly out during the week .. Hotel please note this could be very dangerous! Indoor pool and spa was open and looked really nice but hot and humid. There is also a small hidden adult only pool near here. No beach but they have the Hola Beach club area nearby which is an extra cost. We walked down there and it looks very nice but smelt of horse manure from the field next door. Stairs not an option except lobby to 1st floor – BTW Check which stairs to use in case of fire because we tried one from 3rd floor which came to a dead end! All inclusive limited to 3 cocktails although bars do use Tanqueray gin and Absolute vodka and very nice French red and dry white wine. AI well worth the extra as the drinks and restaurant buffet quite expensive. Compliments to chefs and workers in the main restaurant - Excellent food the whole week which changes between breakfast lunch and dinner and different choices daily served to you by friendly attentive staff. Went to the Byblos Lebanese restaurant after seeing good reviews on here but we were not that impressed. My wife’s beef option had a lot of chewy bits which she pointed out to the waiter who just apologized. Not much wine choice and quite expensive - 28 euros for Spanish Rose but it was nice. We did plan on going to the Italian too but this put us off and didn't bother. Pool bar and café was handy. Elias was a bit stroppy ruling his roost but very efficient and the snack food was very good too. Room cleaning staff also appear to be under pressure and overworked as we had several things missed over a week like towels and milks for tea/coffee which we had to ask for. Balcony light is not broken .. it comes on automatically 19.15 off at 23.00 Pool towels are 10 euro deposit and you can swap over every day if you want to. Closes at 16:30. Local bus stop just up the hill goes to Valletta (no’s 41 or 42 and maybe 222) – great new air con busses .. I read on here that busses were contactless payment but my HSBC Debit card and Starling cards were not recognized so make sure you have 2 euro for up to 2 hour use and note they do not give change. If thinking of hiring a car think twice.. I have done self drive in Asia and thought standards were bad but Malta is the worst I have seen .. guys driving fast usually with 1 arm out of the window even around tight bends on mountain roads with tiny barrier to stop you going down a cliff .. plus that weird thing of having to stop on the roundabout to let traffic on. The hotel in Marfa Bay is pretty secluded but there is a ferryboat booking hut opposite and lands 20 meters from there. Small boat takes 15 minutes to Comino and show you some cliff caves on the way.. 13 euro return ..not much when you arrive but nice Blue Lagoon if you want to go for a swim .. usual rip off for few sunbeds and places to eat and drink. Whole place is about 100 meters long but worth a visit. If you want to go to Gozo they drop you off here and you wait 10/15 minutes for the Comino-Gozo ferryboat. When you want to come back make sure you are near to drop off point as the ferryboat appears to arrive and leave within 2 minutes! If the sea is a bit choppy you may want to go to Gozo by the big ferry from Cirkewwa– can walk from the hotel to the main ferry port c.1km with café watering hole about half way. Takes 30 minutes to Mgarr on Gozo and very frequent and cheap .. every 45 minutes c.5 euro return I think?
