The hotel and property are absolutely fantastic. Nice walks on the property, beautiful pools, a bonus lap pool, good adventures (the morning canoe trip and snorkeling are a must. The food is delicious. We could see whales while having dinner or going for a walk along the coast. The only draw back is that there are many hidden fees that pop-up at the end. This left me with a bad feeling at the end of an excellent vacation. It felt dishonest.
This was our first time on the Big Island. Mauna Lani was impressively gorgeous, we especially loved the spaciousness of the resort. Mauna Lani offered a lot of options of activities right from the resort (which the concierge team contacted us about before arrival), but also plenty of beautiful beach and pool to relax and do nothing as well. We booked the canoe beyond the reef snorkel towards the end of our stay and so glad we did! Ian was our guide that morning - super friendly, and put novice snorkelers like me at total ease so we were able to thoroughly enjoy the whole experience. We stuck mostly to the casual dining options, but the food was top notch. All staff were friendly and made everything easy with no glitches the entirety of our 4 night stay.
Literally the best trip we have ever taken. Hotel was stunning and we felt first class the entire stay. Canoe House was our favorite meal at the hotel. Pool and beach area is wonderful, 10+ whale spottings per day and face to face with a sea turtle while snorkeling just right outside the hotel!
This is a lush paradise on a volcanic barren island with Hawaiian culture and exceptional service and interior design concepts. Luxury is everywhere you go in this resort but the staff are the stars!! We stayed in room 478 with a wonderful view of the pools and fish ponds and ocean and we were serenaded by Hawaiian music and evening live performances. The rooms make good use of space and the lanis have a table, 2 chairs, a love seat and ottoman of very nice quality!
We found Mauna Lani to be everything expected of an 5 star resort and more! From our beautifully appointed spacious room to the entire esthetic of the resort and location on the beach it was superb. Not to mention the astute and professional staff from valets at our arrival, front desk, concierge, beach staff ( they were wonderful but understaffed) restaurants with many good selections. Would highly recommend the sunrise canoe with George as the guide. He paints a beautiful picture of old Hawaii! Great location for morning or sunset walks along the coastal trail! The concierge was so pleasant patient and helpful in plaoour stay as well as trip to Volcanoes National Park to view the caldera at sunset. Really special. We had a great time. Mahalo!
We’ve been coming to the hotel for the last 25 years. So I have enjoyed staying here many times. But this is probably our last visit. I don’t know who decided to completely change all the food choices. The menus at all the restaurants have changed so much that I don’t recognize anything. And the food is so expensive and choices so weird. A fish sandwich for lunch? Uh uh. A hot dog? Nope. How about some fish for dinner….$56! And some strange preparation. Israeli couscous? Taro mash ? Huh? And that isn’t even at the Canoe house which has ultra luxurious menus. And a $36 glass of California Chardonnay. Really??? The grounds are beautiful and that has not changed much. Thank goodness We won’t be returning and I’m sure they don’t care. The staff are wonderful. I just don’t get the food choices.…
My 5 night stay at the Mauna Lani was perfect. My Oceanfront room had a great balcony and views of the pacific. Every on property restaurant had outstanding albeit expensive food - no complaints with the quality of food and service. The grounds and property were impeccably maintained and the staff friendly. I will be back!
This is a beautiful hotel. The common areas were excellent and the service was good. Very easy to navigate although would have appreciated a little more info on what was where. We really enjoyed our experience here with our 2 kids - 7 & 10. Common areas - as stated very nice and well done. Lots of areas to sit near and around lobby, A great little market with not insane prices where you can grab a coffee/sandwich/beer etc.. Pool is nice but became a zoo by around lunch. Winter break so I guess to be expected at a family oriented hotel. I got the feeling that you didn't have to be a guest to use it - maybe some sort of day pass option. We did a cabana a few days so that allowed for some expensive privacy. The beach is right there so very easy to hop out of the pool and walk down to the ocean to do some snorkeling etc.. Pool/beach service was OK, not great. You definitely need to be a little proactive. The restaurants were impressive as well, the two main ones were both good. Canoe House the fancier option, but enjoyed the food at both. The rooms are OK, nothing special. We had two adjoining ocean "view" rooms. Yes you could see the ocean but there was a giant palm tree right in front of us. They were graciously able to move us to oceanfront 2 days later which again was basic room, but with a great direct view of the water. The golf course looked great, didn't get two play (see having two kids above). Kids did some tennis lessons which they enjoyed. The morning canoe paddle was nice, not as intense as what you saw in White Lotus, but enjoyable. We did have a snorkeling canoe trip planned; however, was canceled by water sports team last minute. This was annoying but they comped a cabana to compensate so not the end of the world. In a nutshell, this place is a great hotel to enjoy Hawaii. Probably better with kids, but fine without. Not over the top luxury/service so don't expect that. Rooms, again, were the only minor disappointment. …
This resort is $$$$$$ but worth every penny. You'll never want to leave. Room even had a makeup mirror that lit up when you approached. Pool is large and wonderful> Beach and snorkling off beach is great.
The resort was absolutely beautiful and me and my husband have visited the Hawaiian islands seven times and this is our second visit to the big Island. This was by far the best vacation to Hawaii that I have had. The beach and the lagoon was crazy full of turtles. Snorkeling was super fun. There is another beach that you can also snorkel at and it was super amazing. Lots of fish and turtles. The adult pool and the adult hot tub was very nice. I like the fact that there is a section for adults only. The staff were very polite and the breakfast buffet was so good! We enjoyed a cabana for a day on the beach and several other amenities that the resort offered. My husband and I will be back. The best part, the volcano in Volcano National Park erupted and we were able to see the volcano from the helicopter, during the day at the park and at night. The night views were incredible and I couldn't get enough of the volcano. Overall such a great trip and my husband and I got to connect and had some very deserved down time. …
