Love the hotel: the view from the lobby, the view from each room, loved all of the employees (especially at the coffee bar and the pool bar), loved the beach. All extremely positive. The only negatives are that is pretty far from “stuff” (like different snorkeling tours we went on) - so it’s probably more for people who don’t want to leave the property. Another negative is that the food was only ok. The best food we ate was at the grab-and-go at the coffee bar. We ate at all the restaurants - including the higher end Meridia. All only ok at best (not worth the money, in my opinion) - but you are a captive audience and unless you want to leave, you are stuck eating it and paying the prices. But there are restaurants (like The Fish & the Hog) that are tasty and worth going to about 20 minutes away. Another negative was just the resort cost - between the daily resort cost and daily parking - you are at another $100 per day, it seemed - so just factor that in. All negatives aside - it’s stunningly beautiful - and so you are willing to put up with the negatives to have that view and that access to a gorgeous beach.

This was a 5-star experience. The property was spectacularly beautiful; white sand beaches, beautiful tiered structure, shareable spaces for enjoying the views, amenities were great, room was VERY clean and well appointed. Had responded to the concierge pre-arrival email and she planned some incredible things for our arrival; we were celebrating a birthday and a virtual marathon run on the Big Island - she made sure to make these events special. All of the staff from the restaurants, beach/pool, housekeeping, valets, everyone was welcoming and attentive. Upon our departure the assistant manager had a lovely letter for us and a departure gift. The entire experience was relaxing, rejuvenating and everything we needed it to be. Will definitely be back!

We had the tale of two vacations…fabulous time at the Westin on Maui. The staff was incredible, engaged and welcoming. The same cannot be said for this resort. I wonder if their hiring practices seek out individuals who are disinterested, rude and could care less. When we arrived not a soul greeted us although there were three bellmen/valets at the front. We unloaded the car and waited for someone to at least assist with valeting the car. I was finally instructed to just leave the car and that she would prefer we handled our own luggage. Totally capable of doing so but having just come from the Westin in Maui where the valet and bellmen were the absolute highlight of our stay, this was a letdown and not the standard of most Westin’s. While waiting to check in a staff member approached and very coldly thrust leis at as while saying “here”. Huh? Here? Not welcome or aloha? Then having reserved and paid for a premium ocean view on a high floor we were given a room with a partial view…obstructed by a large building. In addition the room was dirty…a previous guest had spilled something sticky on the bedside table and it was still there…there was a layer of dust on the coffee station shelves…and pieces of toilet paper on the bathroom floor. Not reassuring in the era of covid. I spoke to the front desk and she did move us…still not the premium room or view we had paid for and on a low floor but I was too tired to push. We then went to grab a quick lunch at the poolside bar. I ended up timing how long it took for a server to approach us as I had been watching several tables come in after us and be served. It was almost ten minutes…would have left but we were starving from a long day of travel. Once we got service she was quite nice and the food was delicious. The first morning we went to have breakfast. Stood in line fot quite sometime before the hostess finally approached the line…only to reprimand the guests that we were not standing in an appropriate line and then walked away. All the guests seemed confused by her behavior…and attitude…when one guest observed spots on the floor for social distancing. Ridiculous treatment on the hostess’ part and again not up to the Westin experience. We ended up walking away as she seemed to not want to address or assist any of the guests waiting to be seated. We booked cabanas for a few of the days. One day it was almost 1 1/2 hours before we were offered service for food or drink. The second day the server was annoyed we had rented the cabana the entire day…well since it took 2 1/2 hours that day to be able to get a drink it was like a half day. To make matters worse, some of the exterior stairs around the pool were built with such smooth concrete they became ice rinks with wet feet. I took a horrible spill…severely spraining my arm. No one came to my aid and when I later brought it to the attention of someone at the front desk I was offered a bottle of water and was told to speak to security. “Security” was a joke…I explained where and what happened…showed both security and the front desk my very swollen arm…he pulled out a small notebook…took my name and number and that is the absolute last I heard from anyone. Was not offered medical care although I did say I would have it looked at when we got home as we were leaving the next day. I was not wanting or expecting anything from them but had been attempting to express that I was fortunate in that it was my wrist…the next person it could be their head or spine. They could have cared less. Finally home I went to the Marriott website to retrieve my bill but found it wasn’t posted. I called the resort to have a copy emailed and shared that it wasn’t on the website. She proceeded to tell me it wasn't there because I booked a AAA rate (not through AAA - just the rate on the Marriott website). I let her know I stay at Marriott properties almost every week (have lifetime Titanium status) and use the AAA rate often - as I had done for the Maui Westin which had the bill posted. She didn’t say another word and just hung up on me. Every where we went on the island of Hawaii we had great service, amazing food, and awesome interactions with employees, locals, etc. It is clearly a Westin Hapuna issue which should be addressed. I am a pretty “go with the flow” person with the amount of travel I do for work and pleasure. This experience was so bad I intend to reach out to corporate.

My partner and I stayed here for 3 nights during our visit in Big Islands. Thanks to Tom Cross, the Manager of the hotel that upgraded us to a suite room. The hotel was beautiful and near one of the most popular beaches, Hapuna beach. I love design of the lobby and the hotel. It is unique. Coming from Maui, I can feel this hotel was very quiet compared to the one we stayed in Maui. During the checked in, the process was fast and greeted by Greg. He gave us a free bag that we could use to put towels, etc. The room was cleaned and huge. We loved the big patios and can easily tanning from our room without having to go to the pool or beach area. It also has a big bathroom. We love the continental breakfast especially the croissant and the service were awesome thanks to Ginger and AJ. The most welcoming staffs were Jayson and Isaac from the valet services at the hotels. They recognized us during our stay. The beach was very easy to access and very clean. The adult pool was awesome, and we love the jacuzzi near the pool. In the room, we were given two reusable metal bottle water and two stones necklaces. We loved the bottled water and took it home as it was a great quality bottle water.

This was our first stop for the big Island since we were doing hotel hopping. We absolutely fell in love with this place, we went mid September and after a disastrous flight and 5 delays later we made it a day after we were supposed to be checked in. Service was friendly and the hotel was mostly empty. The restaurant was good as well. I love the layers of levels of this hotel so cool and the beach was the most surprising. It literally felt like Cuba sugar sand, new favourite beach in Hawaii period. Only downside was we could not check in early and the food was more exspensive than our last trip to Maui in 2018 but I guess COVID changed more than we expected. We would for sure come back driving into this place makes you feel special. Not kidding the water bottles they give you , still had ice in them after a 4 hour hike in direct sun. Amazing , and we loved the water fill up stations by far the best we had out of the 3 hotels of this island we stayed at. P.s there are hungry kitties that sometimes follow you to your room they are friendly and love the pets. We did not feed them but felt bad.
