We had booked this hotel as it was near Cove, where we were attending a Book Festival. We had wanted to be near enough so that we didn't have to drive to Helensburgh to find dinner on Sunday night. Just before our stay, for which they had taken a non-refundable deposit of £140, we were emailed to be told that there was no dinner served on a Sunday night as they were short of chefs. We had to be content with an Indian takeaway from Garelochead. My husband had breakfast and discovered that the charge for breakfast was £15 whether or not you had a slice of toast and tea or a full Scottish breakfast. So he had the latter, which he said was good but overprices. I wish I had read these reviews before going there. Although the small staff were lovely and room noisy but adequate. Not at all what you would expect of a four-star hotel. I will be writing to Trading Standards in Argyll.

We had a wonderful mini break in this country house hotel. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by friendly and helpful staff. The food was excellent - and all dietary requirements catered for - which rounded off the weekend perfectly. We will definitely return.

Warm cosy hotel with very friendly staff. We enjoyed our evening meal which was beautifully cooed an professionally presented. Hotel also dog friendly (not that we needed it, but useful to know. Like most hotel at present there is a shortage of staff and guest numbers are adjusted to account for this. As a result we did not notice and fall off in the quality of service.. I’m sure we will return.

We’ve just had a great 3 night dog friendly stay at this character filled coastal country house hotel, the character added to the charm. If visiting remember this is an old house with the quirks of such a building & it’s an interesting gothic architecture specimen. We, including our fox red Labrador Nika, had a friendly welcome & our intitial issue was handled quickly & professionally by the FOH staff. We stayed in room 1 (Loch Fyne) which had lovely views of the Loch & beyond, 4 poster bed & sitting area. We ate in the Lounge, breakfast & dinner, whilst there as it was dog friendly & found the food ample, well presented & delicious. We also had after dinner drinks served in the Drawing room with comfortable seating & a roaring fire. The staff were friendly & attentive & nothing seemed too much trouble. We were lucky with the weather & managed some great walks that were recommended by the team on site. We’d like to return in the spring/summer to sample the delights & evenings out front on the ample seating area overlooking the Loch. We wish you all continued success & whatever the future brings you.

Spectacular location. I couldn't see the rooms in the main building as I stayed in the new separate part. Very nice and perfectly clean. I want to make a special thanks to all the staff, staff and members of the kitchen, especially the chefs. They met my requests due to a restriction of my diet due to my IBD. I sincerely thank everyone, I have been so pampered! Little note: poor Wifi justified by the isolated area
