What a view, that’s the first thing. Such a beautiful location, with gorgeous gardens and it even has mini golf. The owners are lovely and extremely attentive. Whatever we needed was supplied with minimal fuss And a smile. The food was good too. We had the breakfast which was sweet cakes and a few other things and you have the option of getting some scrambled eggs, an option I exercised the two days we stayed.
After a long drive through the mountains we came across El Balcon. Such a warm welcome, they showed us to a room before we said yes to it. The views from the window are stunning looking up at the mountains. If staying again would ask for a balcony room. We ate in the restaurant which I have to stay was excellent, I had sea bass cooked to perfection. Sat out on the veranda for a drink to admire the views. We both slept very well in the king size bed, bathroom great.
We had a stopover here during a cycle ride from San Sebastián to Tarifa.. We had a warm welcome, our room was comfortable with a panoramic view of the mountains from our window. There is a good sized pool, and a pleasant terrace for dining. The staff worked hard to look after us although we sensed they weren't used to cycle groups who needed a quick turnaround at breakfast - sometimes you can't have a relaxed ambience and slick efficiency can you. Overall, a pleasant place.
We found this beautiful hotel on our travels from Madrid up through the mountains of Sierra de Gredos . The hotel is in an area called La Vera at the northwest of the county of Cáceres, between the Gredos mountain and the Tietar river. A magical and inimitable place! This is a wonderful space, a hidden gem with views of the mountains which change every day as the sun makes it’s journey across the sky. The views from the front of the hotel are inspirational and you never tire of them. We had a second floor room with a balcony. The pool has the sun all day. The rooms are beautifully clean and spacious. We just popped in to get some lunch and the owner of the hotel, a lady called Francis was so accommodating with our vegetarian requests (her husband Andres does most of the cooking) that we decided to stay! Breakfast, lunch or dinner can be taken on the delightful terrace.. The food is wonderful, prepared with fresh local ingredients. Francis proudly talks you through all the options (there were many, which for us as veggies we found an exception). We loved this place and cannot speak highly enough of Francis, and her staff. It was worth every penny for our stay here. If you want value for money as well as a glorious view to wake up to you won’t go far wrong with the El Balcon. We will be back again next year for sure!…
We found this place by pure coincidence, dropped in without a reservation and asked for available rooms. The staff was very welcoming and helpful (which unfortuantely is not always the case in Spain...) We were shown two rooms, one on the ground floor with gardenview but decided for the second one on the first floor (#201) with balcony and magnificent view to the mountain range (Sierra de Gredos). Nice sized room, very comfortable beds and pillows (!), nice surroundings with large swimming pool (which would be even nicer if it would be surrounded with natural instead of artificial lawn). A member of staff showed us around and explained the activities we could do in the area (among others: birdwatching literally from the doorstep [Golden Orioles in abundance...], bathing in the pristine clear waters of the "Natural Pools" in the gorges in the area and lots more. - The dinner menu had a rather limited selection but what we got was nicely presented, obviously prepared with fresh local ingredients and tasted excellent. Good advice was given on the wine selection, since we were not familiar with the local Extremaduran wines. Both dinner and breakfast were taken on the terrace outside, again with view to the beautiful scenery. Local produce (honey, cheeses, etc.) are also for sale. It was not a cheap stay by any means, but definitely worth the money. Muchas gracias and we'll be back :-)…
