Travellers' Choice
The Vineyard has been described as a temple to Californian wine. Just outside Newbury, about an hour from London, it certainly lives up to its reputation, and more. The cellar holds over 30,000 wines from the new and old worlds, as well as the award-winning estate wines of owner Sir Peter Michael. It is also celebrated for its contemporary cooking. Spacious contemporary suites, traditional bedrooms, an award winning spa and a private art collection to die for, make it the ideal venue for special events, weddings, and a delightful retreat for gourmands and the curious alike.

I have to admit that this hotel was not our first choice for New Year, however due to travel restrictions in place it was not very wise to leave England. And we had fabulous time in Vineyard!!! The rooms are grand, very specious and comfortable. The colleagues looking after us all were very attentive and helpful. John at the reception desk was very helpful with local places to visit (we already have plan to return to see at least one of them!). We had lovely waiter from Argentina, and our sommelier had such a passion for wine. We used hotel’s spa on the new year day and Barbara was incredibly gentle and very professional with the facials, we wish we lived closer to be able to visit her regularly. We did not always agree with the choices made by the chief, but i guess it is more down to personal preferences. Saying that my husband still remembers the taste of the American pancakes served on the brunch on 1st of Jan. please keep them on your regular menu! The New Year evening was conducted in much quieter manner than on pre-pandemic times, but still very much in spirit of the celebration!! And the firework! Piece of art, really great start of the year!

We visited in January for 1 night on the winter Break Deal and it was extremely good value. The spa was quiet and relaxing, our room comfortable and cosy And the Breakfast delicious and extremely Generous. Every member of staff was exceptionally polite and attentive. The bar had a great atmosphere in the evening with a lovely warm fire. We visited for a night away from our toddler before our second child is due and it Was exactly what we needed. Thanks very much.

Overnight stay for family celebration was looking forward to our get together in brief this is how it was- Room-Excellent, light, airy and spacious Staff-All very polite and courteous Lunch menu-Disappointing and overpriced for what I had Lunch service-Very slow Dinner menu-Very good Dinner service-presented in good time Breakfast menu-Good continental choice, may seem petty toast cold & not done Breakfast service-part self service, part table service all good Checking out-should have been very easy but had to query bill & deciding what was incorrect was difficult because of the discretionary service charges added Stay price-5 star price for 4 star stay, it lacked the extra touches for 5 star.

The welcome was very good the hotel was beautifully done out for Christmas the atmosphere is perfect The room was so wonderful room with a walk in wardrobe to bathroom with a huge bath was superb The bed was comfortable the pillows & the towels were the best on a hotel for many years Service was excellent The spa was the first port of call however the pool water was the coldest I have ever encountered in a hotel spa the beds were comfortable and the service was very good Just one more point to raise was the coffee served was seemingly always lukewarm unfortunately had to be sent back to the kitchen. This was a shame the coffee cups were too small the glass mugs for the latte coffee were alway cold The evening meal of three courses was superb the best food in a hotel for some time we definitely recomnded this hotel The breakfast was sufficient continental however cooked on offer at a extra price The hotel is luxurious wonderful grounds everywhere inside rooms are the most amazing pictures and ornament the walls are dressed to the finest taste Such a great place to stay and experience luxury

We spent 2 nights here post our wedding. It was rated as 5 star on Expedia but was well below the standard of other 5 star hotels that I have stayed in such as Claridge's Gleneagles and the Shard. If you are a wine buff then there certainly is an extensive cellar, with prices from around £40 up to £750 plus. The a la carte meal was ok but the lunch meal next day was better and cheaper as it came with a selection of vegetables as standard and not £5 per item extra. In fairness lunch was very good. The main issue with food was breakfast which was either a very basic continental breakfast or rather obscure cooked options and nothing that really resembled a proper English cooked breakfast. The facilities were limited as the bar area was really no more than a reception area for the restaurant. The spa was used by my wife and was good but the swimming pool was very cold. The TV was really poor as only had about 15 freeview channels a sky channel which was poor reception and not a smart tv so you could not access the likes of BBC iPlayer or ITV hub.
