An old castle from the 1200 century located in a wonderful park with lakes on both sides. Stunning views. The castle offers bastu, jacuzzi, tennis courts, ghosts etc. Nice conference venues and for sure a fantastic place for weddings with an adorable little chapel. Very friendly staff

I attended a wedding at Backaskog recently and thought that it was more than magical. The staff were all friendly, but also non-existent in the nicest possible way. This gave the feeling that you were able to freely roam the grounds and the castle itself, and didn't feel like you were forced into certain areas of the building, which you... More

A beautiful old building turned into a comfortable hotel. A very good guide telling ghost stories, a lovely suite to sleep in. All very good, except for the bathroom, which had a disctinct plastic 70's feeling to it. We slept like angels, had nice breakfast and were totally happy.

I went to see the old 13th century building, not the hotel nor the restaurant. Just to make this clear, I cant comment on these. Just a small part of it is still as it was, the lower part, the old kitchen, old stoves, storage rooms, etc. The rest of the place is a hotel now, there are people living... More

I had a buffet lunch there and a guided tour for the old castle and chapel. The food was excellent, fresh and tasty chicken with mushrooms sauce and rice. The desert was a spectacular panacotta with lingonberries. The place is gorgeous and it fits for all kind of purposes, businesses, romance, friends... I will definitely come back when I get... More

We stopped here for lunch on our way to the island of Ivö. Bäckaskog castle is a a beautiful old monastery from the 1200's that now serves as a hotel / restaurant. It's a popular place for conferences, weddings etc. We were seated outside in a lovely park setting and had the 125 kronor lunch buffet special. It consisted of... More

Beautiful property, with lovely grounds. Extremely good dinner and good breakfast (the best scrambled egg I've had for ages). Very reasonably priced - £140 for one night room, dinner and breakfast for two. Rooms in the annex are very basic, but comfortable enough. The WiFi is a bit hit and miss, (not easily available throughout the larges builds), but free... More

Bäckaskog Castle. ¤ Built as a premonstratensian monastery around 1250 (the monks were commonly called "the white monks", due to the colour of their scapular). ¤ Fortified as a stronghold by the Danish in 1584 (resulting in the circumscribed courtyard). ¤ Transformed into a summerhome by the Swedish King Karl XV, 19 years old, in 1845 (wintertime he lived in... Backaskog Castle used to be a monestery and originates from the early 1200th Century. During the years it has been rebuilded and transformed into the Castle that today is a national monument We spent a night in a suite in the main Building Klostergården. Very cosy and spacious room, with separate seating area. The room was however probably better suited... More

Stayed only one night passing through, and now I wish we'd spend more time there. In the one of the most spectacular settings, this castle now hotel/events -centre offers one of the best value for money accommodation on the south east cost. Stayed in the Möllan building, with the view of the Rose Garden and the main mansion. The rooms... More

“For own bathroom facilities the buildings "in the park" are great value, ask for the view of the mansion. For B&B, the "Vapensmedens hus" is extremely cute and is right by the lake (not been inside though, so can't say what it lookes like there)”

“We didn't stay the night, but I have seen many of the rooms. Those in the castle building itself have a wonderful historic atmosphere (the bridal suite in the tower for the utimate romantic stay), but even those cottages scattered throughout the grounds there is a peaceful tranquility. Best of those are the cottages on the western side of the park, overlooking the lake and a small sandy beach.”
