A quiet out of the way backpackers that you can't drive to unless your in a 4x4 (but the backpackers will pick you up from a point smaller cars can reach). To this day one of the most scenic spots I've ever been to. Not the friendliest staff, but who cares when you have that amount of beautiful space to...

We came here the end of July, with a gigantic storm approaching. The storm prevented us from any outdoor activities, but luckily we had a sea view room, so we could still enjoy the nature without getting dripping wet. This place was hard to find (as was their parking space), so we had to call for directions a few times,...

We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us, despite the horrendous weather! The funky atmosphere you experienced was mostly due to the weather: it put an abrupt halt to our building efforts and so all the volunteers, who had been working hard day after day, suddenly got a forced break and found themselves with nothing to do, bored, cold,...

This hostel really is set in a stunning location although it is very remote! Only access by 4x4... Useful shuttle collects from local area. The secure parking is not quite what I would call secure...it's located around the back of someone's house! Difficult to find too. Slightly strange welcome... Were the only guests so the place felt quiet and as...

I hope our website reflects our place accurately - other than that I'm afraid I can't fix the complaint of "not what we expected". The secure parking is perfectly secure in terms of this area: yes, it is just a friends backyard. But this man who agreed to safekeep our guests cars is a very respected man in the community,...

Wild Lubanzi is a wonderfully remote location - access is either by 4x4 or walking from a neighbouring resort, although the owner will collect you from the tar road only a couple of kilometres away. A warm welcome, good facilities such as meals and WiFi, and basic accommodation. The owner and his wife are working enthusiastically and impressively to develop...

Nice and peaceful place, perfect to start walks to the hole in the wall or the other direction. Homy feeling with wooden decks and pillows, good food, good people, definitely off beaten track, in a sometimes too touristy coast. Even got some dolphins on one morning!

We stayed 4 nights in Lubanzi: 2 in a dorm and 2 in the turtle room. We just enjoyed the surroundings and the people so much. Loved the communal dinners, we had such interesting conversations with the other guests! And the food was amazing but too. Lunch is for free but can take a while, of course you can make...

I only stopped by there at a walk from Bulungula (4 hours) to Hole in the Wall (about 1,5 h away) and was fascinated by the beauty and the heartly welcome by the owner. We asked for some lunch and she made us some incredible pasta salad which she even didn't want to charge us for. Unfortunately, I didn't have...

Absolutely loved my stay at Wild Lubanzi! The food was delicious, the chill area was AMAZING and perfect for lounging, reading, drinking, relaxing, sleeping, sun bathing....pretty much all relaxation activities. The views are incredible. This was my favorite spot on a month long road trip all over South Africa. Do yourself a favor and visit the Wild Coast - and...

We stayed here one night during a 2-day hike from Coffee bay via Lubanzi to Bulungula lodge. It was the perfect place. Everything is handmade, the organic food was perfect and you have to try the deck to watch the sunrise.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Whether you choose a crazy dorm or a cozy double room - everything in this place has been lovingly renovated and hand crafted. Now this is the Wild Coast, so we keep it simple and rural. Almost all showers are solar heated, which means: hot showers only during the day. In the main house there is a rocket shower, a parafin heated tube that roars like a rocket and provides hot water. Our tap water comes from a nearby spring, and the drinking water comes directly from the sky. We have an organic garden where we grow vegetables all year round. Help to pick or dig up your delicious dinner or cook your own food in the fully equipped self-catering kitchen. At night get a fire going in the braai place and sit on the veranda chatting in the light of parafin lanterns. Electricity is provided by solar panels, for the lights in the house and for charging cell phones and other gadgets. We do have free internet! Activities includes the word "active" which is not everyone's choice - after all, this is the perfect place to just relax and hang out and let all stress drain away. The beach is just down the hill and sheltered by cliffs, so grab your towel and have a snooze in the sand - or would you prefer the hammock on the veranda? If you DO feel active, take a stroll around, explore the other beaches or the nearby river estuary (all within easy walking distance), go swimming or snorkeling or fishing, walk to the next shebeen (local tavern) to drink beer and chat with the locals, collect shells on the beach ... Or bring your mountain bike and conquer the hectic 4x4 tracks ... ... more   less
