Albrighton Hall and Spa, a Radisson Individuals member, garners appreciation for its spa and dining options, though some guests note room for improvement in maintenance and service. The property's blend of charm and weariness leaves a few areas in need of sprucing up. While the rooms are often regarded as ample and cozy, a number of guests suggest they could benefit from modernization.
The hotel's picturesque, rural location near Shrewsbury is widely praised, yet opinions on service and cleanliness vary, with some pointing out inefficiencies and upkeep issues. Additionally, concerns are raised about the hotel's value for money.

Detailed Reviews
Lovely one night stay at this hotel. Had trouble finding it with the sat nav which did some strange things and it was horrible weather so we didn’t arrive in the best of moods. From the moment we arrived the staff were so friendly and inviting that the mood soon improved. I tried out the spa and pool which were all quite empty of partakers (wet Thursday afternoon) and had my nails polished. I felt very indulged and the lovely lady in the spa treatments room did a great job on my nails and was lovely to chat to. Evening meal in the restaurant was very olde-world service which is rare these days and the food was fabulous. We both had the lamb which was served very tender. Breakfast again in the same restaurant was very good and a shout-out to the lady staff member who noticed my husband’s visual impairment and offered assistance if it was needed with the buffet style breakfast. In all our time visiting hotels in our country nobody has ever offered before and this was very much appreciated as a thoughtful gesture. It should happen elsewhere but in our experience it doesn’t and although we didn’t need help because I could assist my husband I do really appreciate other people looking out for him. It is a lovely old hotel dressed up for Christmas and felt very Agatha Christie style which I love. I believe it has very recently changed hands so I hope it remains true to its identity and the new owners look after their friendly helpful team of staff. It probably needs a bit of a refresh in general but old hotels are quirky and I don’t mind creaking floorboards with a bit of flaky paintwork as long as it’s clean. All in all it was a very enjoyable albeit brief stay and I would certainly revisit if the opportunity arose.

The hotel and location are stunning.
Although it was sub zero temperatures the room was warm and included an additional heater.
Pros:
We booked directly with the hotel rather than with Secret Escapes or Wowcher. This was cheaper (approximately £50!) Spa access, a dinner voucher (£20pp Wowcher and £25pp Secret Escapes) and robe and slippers are ALL part of a deal at the hotel if you book a Superior Room that includes a sofa bed (half board option)! We seven asked for an upgrade which they granted.
Oak Restaurant
Lovely choice of delicious good available. Great quality.
Bedroom
Very comfortable double bed with ample pillows. Lots of floor space. Immaculate bathroom with separate shower from bath.
Cons:
Spa
A few technical issues at the Spa but I blame the weather. No jacuzzi, aromatherapy steam room or snail showers operational. I think the pipes were frozen. The two saunas and steam room were working and that was fine for us.
Buffet breakfast
Heat lamps mean the bacon was tough, but that's to be expected with a buffet.
Food at the bar
There's a wider selection of food at the bar BUT the quality of meals at the restaurant was superior. The burger meals were not worth the price, however if you're looking for choice it's a good option.

This was my second stay at the Albrighton Hall Hotel, and my stay was a pleasant one, I made a late booking for my latest business stay so was happy to accept what was available, I had been booked into the Stable Block, which is at the rear of the hotel. Room was large, clean and comfortable, a little noisy as it's an old building so you can hear people walking around on the floors above, or noise in the other rooms and corridors if they're loud, which is understandable for a building of it's age (last time I stayed in the Headmasters House).
The grounds are very pleasant, and it's a quiet location, bar and lounge areas are comfortable and nice to sit with a drink and some food, catching up on a bit of work, I do imagine they could get a bit crowded and noisy if the hotel is busier.
Check in and Check out was good, very friendly, and generally I found the service to be pretty good.
The reason for a rating of four is really with the quality and value of the food and drink. I had a chicken tikka curry, rice and a side of fries, a pint of beer and a pint of Stella, total bill came to nearly £40, the pint of beer (AURIC) was £7 per pint I discovered the following morning at check out when I queried the food and drink bill, I expect to have to pay a premium for average food and drink generally in the hotels I stay however £7 is extortionate and the food in general was less than average, I've paid half the price in a Premier Inn and had better and a larger portion too. Disappointed with the food and disappointed with the drinks prices, but overall a nice hotel for a business trip. Didn't try the spa, pool and gym facilities.
One tip I would pass on to the hotel is close the gates to the yards at the back with the laundry, skips and bins, the view from my room would have been a tidy little courtyard/pathway if the gates were closed, unfortunately it included the aforementioned hotel waste and rubbish dump.

Dear Chapowl, Thank you for your review which is naturally a disappointment to receive, We are also sorry to read that you felt our Restaurant was overpriced. We source the majority of our seasonal produce and ingredients from local suppliers, in addition to all items being freshly cooked to order and our menu is priced to reflect this. We have noted your feedback with regards to the laundry area. Best regards, Diane & the team

What I hoped would be a spoil for my daughter and granddaughter was anything but from the moment we entered the spa.
It wasn’t clear who were staff or gym members, no marked uniforms, and rather scruffy. The computer system was down so the young man had to use his mobile. Instructions for our Spa afternoon were not given clearly. We were not told in advance (before getting undressed) that we needed £1 coins for the lockers! Very few lockers worked. We weren’t offered a drink on arrival. There were no slippers available, none sent with laundry, and outdoor shoes not allowed in spa areas (foot infection alert!)
The kitchen had problems so lunch would have to be after using the spa facilities. When we chose what we wanted for lunch, it wasn’t pointed out that there was a £4 surcharge for fish and chips, which was only just warm when it arrived, in soggy batter. When asked if we were happy with the food, I pointed this out, no response!
Cold showers before going in the pool and still cold showers after our beautiful Spar treatment's. The Spa was just as we requested, very professional.
The pool side areas could have been cleaner and seating looked shabby.
Needless to say, not a good experience and we will not be returning, for an overpriced ripoff. A very dated hotel.

We had the misfortune of been part of ‘Christmas party night’ last night.
What a huge disappointment! Upon entering the building everything looked good, we were quickly all shepherded into the function room as they wanted everyone away from main bar. The bar in the function room was poorly stocked, lacking on choice for all spirits, no cider on draught, no ale, no draught mixers. The food was beyond disappointing, we had opted for the turkey diner, talk about minimal portion sizes… one slice of turkey!! One pig in blanket, 3 sprouts, teaspoons worth of carrots and parsnip and some insipid potatoes. Never have I had such a small main meal, there were no extra vegetables available, everyone on our 5 tables was complaining and it was agreed none of us will ever return.
For the price we paid this is totally unacceptable!
After the food the disco started, the dj had to be 70+ couldn’t mix to save his life so we went from one track to another with a gap between each, he then tried to get guests involved in ‘party games’ 1970’s style, encouraging the contestants to grab someone of the opposite sex and kiss them. Come on folks, move the times.
Please avoid this place for functions, save your money and go somewhere else.

Stayed for one night on the way to a conference nearby. Despite the initial look of the hotel being in a beautiful country setting the building itself is old and dated. Our party was located in both the stables and the school house and we were all very disappointed at the level of cleanliness and state of disrepair of furniture. I had what looked like blood splattered curtains ( god knows how!) and bedding heavily stained on top quilts. Wardrobe doors were hanging off and bedside lamps flashed, crackled and went off (I unplugged them quickly). We enjoyed the spa and gym, although equipment was limited and old. The evening meal was nice (bar menu), price was high but no more than any other hotel food. Breakfast was also nice and plenty on offer. Overall the hotel really needs to work on bedroom standards as they let down an otherwise nice country hotel. Also please ensure old, stained mattresses are removed from the courtyard and not on show to guests staying in the stables, this does not make you sleep well! Housekeeping is a low point and needs to be looked at if you want return customers. It's a shame as website photos are deceiving! I did highlight issues on leaving as I think its only fair to be straight forward to give feedback. Hopefully these issues will be resolved and the hotels standards will improve.

Dear clarieanddeddief, Thank you for the feedback, I really appreciate your honesty and I wish to reassure you that we are planning a soft refurbishment in the coming months to ensure the look of our standard classic room is improved. The rooms in our outside annexes are very spacious and offer a great space in a more informal ambience. Our maintenance team has scheduled some maintenance works, including wall painting, change of curtains and other tasks which will undoubtedly enhance the experience of our Guests. I am pleased to read that you have enjoyed the food offerings in our bar and restaurant (during breakfast). It is certainly our hope for you to visit us again to experience the changes which we are making. Warm regards Elena Fenton Operations Manager

My partner booked this for a spa break thru a spa website in Feb 23, the hotel and grounds are very picturesque, we were greeted professionally and the double room was fine no problems. Unfortunately the spa really let it down, the pool was very cold, the hot tub over-subscribed and little kids were using it, we waited an hour and half to get in it. One sauna was out of order the other barely warm, we never used the pool at all as it was just ridiculously cold we heard other guests complaining of being cold. We were not offered robes as other guests seem to have been and the changing room showers (ladies) were in poor condition the head could not be adjusted and the tap cover came off in my hand, I usually have a nice shower after a spa this is the first bad experience I've had. Our evening meal was fine if a little unusual limited menu, we both had rump steak which was cooked perfectly medium as we asked. Breakfast next day also ok, but the one drinks machine is constantly in use and results in a luke warm drink. When my partner mentioned the cold pool at reception we were told a part came in Saturday morning and was meant to be fixed but it was the wrong one, but having read a few reviews it seems the cold pool has been an issue for a long time. If this hotel wants to maintain and increase business especially as a spa venue it really needs to cover the basics and not leave guests out in the cold.

Albrighton Hall Hotel & Spa, a member of Radisson Individuals, promises a luxurious retreat, but the reality is a stark contrast. What should have been a relaxing getaway turned into a catalogue of issues, ranging from neglect to outright safety hazards.
A Spa Experience Gone Wrong
If you’re seeking tranquillity, you won’t find it here. The spa facilities are in a state of serious decline, and the experience was nothing short of appalling. The pool? Ice cold, with broken tiles underfoot that felt like stepping on shards of glass. The jacuzzi, the main reason for booking, was out of order, yet no prior notice was given. Staff members showed no concern—more interested in their phones than their guests.
Hygiene and maintenance seem to be an afterthought. The steam rooms reek of mould, the floors are visibly dirty, and the showers? They only offer an arctic blast, as the “hot” setting is non-functional. To top it off, all lights were abruptly switched off while guests were still inside the steam room, followed by the showers being cut off—an absurd and rude way of signalling closing time, a full 15 minutes early.
The biggest shock, however, came when leaving the spa. The stairwell was plunged into complete darkness, leaving guests to navigate a hazardous path that included a poorly placed portable disabled ramp—right in front of a fire exit. A serious accident waiting to happen.
Dining Disaster
Dinner was an experience fit for an episode of Fawlty Towers—but without the humour. The lowlight? A serving of chips in a dish that was chipped and rusted through. When we raised this serious health concern with staff, the response was indifferent at best. The waiter acknowledged the issue, admitted the manager agreed, yet did nothing. No apology. No replacement. Just a flimsy excuse that there should have been a paper lining—as if that somehow made rusted tableware acceptable. Meanwhile, other guests were returning their meals and receiving refunds, while we were treated with complete disregard.
A Hotel in Freefall
At one point, Albrighton Hall’s spa and facilities may have been something special, but those days are long gone. The neglect is evident everywhere—from the unsanitary floors to the lack of basic safety measures. With broken amenities, inattentive staff, and an overwhelming sense of decay, this is a place to avoid at all costs.
Between the trip hazards, the dangerous state of the pool, the unhygienic spa conditions, and even the risk of food contamination, it’s hard to believe this hotel is still in operation. If you value your health, safety, and basic customer service, look elsewhere.

contacted customer service before arriving ask for room with bath/shower when we arrived given room with shower. then allocated a suite!, it looked so good but the bath took 20 mins to fill due to defective bath tap. then on two occasioned the heating came on, reported it but it was still on when we left, tried to turn radiator valves off but had no success.
went to breakfast and found partially cooked bacon and sausage it looked disgusting
no one refilling cereal bowls or bread for toaster, we asked for some well done bacon but it never came.
complained to reception but could not speak to a manager before lunchtime, i was offered a credit on two breakfasts ,I accepted a bottle of wine with dinner but the offer was red ,white or rose,i expected a better choice than this and we had to send steak back.
This a lovely hotel in a great setting but the food and apparently lack of staff interest are always going to be an issue

Dear buffettj, Thank you for your review on this platform; I am very disappointed to read that you found your time spent at our hotel wasted. I am somehow very surprised about the breakfast comments as both, sausages and bacon go in the oven and are probed once they come out to ensure the items are cooked correctly. I am very sorry if you have perhaps felt that the items were not cooked correctly. I do hope to have another opportunity to offer you better service, perhaps during your next visit to Shropshire. Warm regards, Elena Fenton Operations Manager

I booked this hotel as a surprise for my husband’s birthday. I booked a Privilege room due to the extras that came with it.
Check in was good with a welcoming receptionist however when we arrived at our room there were non of the extras I had paid for. I returned to reception and the gentleman, who I expect was new, was unsure as to where to get the missing items (coffee machine, soft drinks, robes, slippers) but did provide them to our room fairly quickly. It was a disappointing way to start our stay (due to an error by housekeeping apparently).
We had a dinner, bed and breakfast booking and dinner in the Oak Restaurant on our first night was excellent - the risotto was delicious. The second night we ate in the bar and the service (from Ryan) was outstanding and the food served quickly and was good (curry and pizza).
Breakfast (self service) was good and I ordered vegan sausages and poached eggs on both days which were freshly cooked and served in 10-15 minutes from request. A nice choice of food but there were only two people serving and they were rushed off their feet. Many guests had to ask for items to be replenished and although the staff were very polite and obliging there should have been at least one more to keep an eye on the items as they run low and provide a higher level of customer service.
We used the pool everyday. It was clean and warm. However the jacuzzi was far too hot and the button to turn it on did not work on a couple of times we tried to use it. The steam and sauna rooms were good.
Our bedroom (55 in a separate building to the main hotel) was clean and the bed very comfortable. Not sure if the toiletries in the bathroom were the extra Privilege ones but were nice (no conditioner so bring your own if you need it).
With a few tweaks and more staff I think I would have given the hotel 5 stars but at the moment it’s not quite there.
