Totally off the beaten track. Just fabulous scenery, large, clean room. The nearest village is 5 km away, and where you would go for dinner. The owner, Maria, is a delightful lady, who is ready to help you in any way she can. Breakfast was a feast of homemade jams, wonderful cheese, excellent ham and freshly squeezed juice from home-grown oranges. They also make their own olive oil, which is for sale at the property. There is a kitchen which guests can make use of, with a fridge full of cold drinks. There's an honesty box where you write down what you've taken from the fridge. The courtyard outside the downstairs rooms is a charming place to sit, and the upstairs terrace has views of the countryside which are so peaceful and calm. This is a place that we would gladly visit again, and would make a detour to do so. Thank you, Maria and Miguel, for giving us wonderful memories. …
It is one of those places not worth traveling for on purpose, but If you are in the area (Caceres/Salamanca/Castelo Branco/Guarda), don't miss it. The Sierra de Gata is a cosy little hill with its 3 (on the spanish side) very pitoresque villages (Valverde, Eljas and S. Martin) where you can find a specific language (a mix of Spanish, Portuguese and Galician) and peculiar stories.
El cabezo is breathtaking beautiful!!! We felt at home in an instant. Our bedroom was huge but cosy. The breakfast was excellent, with selfmade cookies, marmalade, fresh bread...The kids were allowed to pick the oranges for their juice themselves, it was a sensation for them. Miguel, the lovely owner of the finca, took us to his cows with his landrover, an experience I will never forget in my life! This place made us happy. Thank you Miguel!
