We had a fantastic two night stay at this wonderful hotel in the midst of Mornington Peninsula. From the beginning staff were friendly and did an excellent job and nothing was too much for them. The property is set on nice grounds with some rooms overlooking the vineyards. Our room 36 was on the opposite side on the first floor. This meant we did overlook the carpark but as we were elevated we did not notice it and had nice views to the hills beyond. Definitely avoid a ground floor room as it would not be as attractive overlooking a carpark.
The room was well decked out with a great king bed, block out blinds, a huge bath tub and a free mini bar including gin and tonics and beers. This in itself was a rare but appreciated touch. Another lovely touch was the bottomless ice cream and popcorn to your room. The turn down service even featured a small gift each night. Once we received bath salts and the other time a calming pillow spray. The only slight negative is the lightly frosted glass wall between the toilet and the rest of the room. You better be on comfortable terms with your travelling partner.
Food at the hotel is excellent. We had dinner one evening at Doot Doot Doot which was a wonderful affair. Breakfast which is served daily from 7am was an ala carte menu with a range of creative offerings. What we liked was you could get additional items such as a bowl of yoghurt without any fuss. The coffee was also excellent.
The hotel has a wide range of facilities including its own bar and wine tasting and a range of other activities that vary from day to day.
The hotel is centrally located for easy access to all of the sights of Mornington Peninsula being just a short drive away.
Overall an excellent experience. It is a bit pricey but when you consider all the inclusions it is well worth a lash out for a special occasion.

Our room had views of the stunning vineyard, Infiniti pool and spa, it was modern, roomy, bed was comfy and bathrooms modern. They supply unlimited popcorn and choctops only trouble is you have to log in to your own foxtel, Netflix or channel apps, bad luck if you don’t subscribe to any of them.
They supply robes as you would expect from a 5 star hotel, but no slippers, unless requested, as were dental kits. Surely a $5 pair of slippers are not too much to ask when you pay $1000 per night!
The staff were excellent and went out of their way for us, one staff member even offered her own foxtel log in to us.
The food at Rare Hare was excellent! Drinks orders however took a good 40 mins.
Room service was prompt and food was great except for my crab omelette which looked and tasted like rubber.
Would we stay there again? Probably not we feel it’s overpriced for what is offered.

Staff are wonderful and if you are here on a warm day the pool is amazing. My only negative feedback is to be careful of which room you book. We booked a basic terrace room knowing that we did not overlook the vineyard, however the description of the room was most misleading. At no stage did I know that I would be overlooking a car park! When expressing my disappointment regarding the room view the concierge offered a room upgrade at full price. Considering the check in is at 3pm and the check out 11am I think this is poor value for the money.

Hi Lynette Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We're so glad to hear that you enjoyed our wonderful staff and the pool facilities. We sincerely apologise for the confusion regarding the room view. Your comments about the Terrace room are appreciated, and we will work to ensure that the details are clearer for future guests. We're also sorry that the upgrade option didn’t meet your expectations, and we understand how frustrating this can be, especially considering the check-in/check-out times. Your input is invaluable to us, and we will strive to improve. We hope to welcome you back and provide a more satisfying experience next time! Kind regards Clare Hoffman, General Manager

This hotel has a lot of hype around it, but when you arrive you realise quickly that it is not so grand. When walking into the reception area you are greeted with a black painted area and staff that are not very helpful or friendly (actually rude in our case) What you don’t realise is that the black painted walls continue down the hall to your rooms..bit like a nightclub feeling. Our room was fairly big and actually had a white wall but mainly black. Let me pre warn you that the main theme for this hotel is black. Black pool, towels, etc…. They offer free ice cream and popcorn all day, so while sitting by the pool asked if we could have some ice cream only to be told that you can only have it in your room!!! Clean and tidy place but definitely not worth the price and if you still want to visit make sure you request a room looking over the pool otherwise the car park is your view. Plenty of other more unique and not black places to stay before this hotel.

Hi there Thank you for sharing your feedback and we're sorry to hear that your experience didn't meet expectations during your stay. We understand that the bold black décor might not be to everyone's taste and apologise for any discomfort it caused. Our team aims to be as helpful and welcoming as possible, so we're disappointed to hear that your interaction with the staff wasn't positive. We will be sure to re-visit the Front Office Training with the team. Regarding the ice cream and popcorn, we’re grateful for your feedback and will look into making our policies clearer for future guests. Kind regards Clare Hoffman, General Manager

A positive is the food was excellent and rooms were very clean.

The focus of this hotel is apparently entirely on the aesthetic. Practicality is unfortunately lost. In the bedrooms light switches are hidden (there is also a master switch that is unmarked and caused all sorts of issues) and in strange places. The bathroom lighting was abysmal and compounding that were unnecessary steps… not ideal in a dark room you are unfamiliar with.

The staff were mostly friendly, but not proactive and largely untrained. Food was served promptly but the wine was poor and was not refilled by staff. Guests had to ask for the bottle to be left on the table and fill their own.

Absolutely would not recommend staying here. For the price we expected top service and was sadly very disappointed.

My wife and I finished a business trip in Melbourne with two nights at this wonderful property.
The staff are exceptional as is the food and wine.
We chose a vineyard view room which had a private balcony with beautiful views across to vineyards on Tuscan slopes and beyond.
The property would definitely have received a 5 star review from us but for a couple of unfortunate issues that are worth bearing in mind if you book here.
The website plainly states that their restaurants prioritise bookings of guests staying at the property.
If this is the case, then the fact is that they have more guests than they can properly accommodate.
Our room tariff for two nights included a 7 course degustation at Doot Doot Doot and a credit towards a meal at Rare Hare which is their second restaurant.
The staff were apologetic and appropriate but we were forced to take it or leave it with an 8:45pm seating at one and an 8pm seating at the other because they were so busy. We were given no choice at all, and at our ages such late full course dining doesn’t agree with us.
Room service was extremely slow as we were again told apologetically that they are so busy.
When at 5.30pm, we went to the only bar to enjoy a drink or two before our late dinner booking, we were sent away (politely) because the bar was too full.
As a guest at this remotely located hotel this effectively sends you back to your room because there is no where else to go.
In many years of luxury travel I don’t recall a similar incident.
I’m led to believe this wonderfully quirky property, with such exceptional staff, are biting off more than they can chew.
They are obviously riding a crest of popularity (well deserved) which I hope is not adversely affected by not properly catering to guests needs.

Reception was not friendly during check in or check out process, when they barely said a word — not even to ask how our stay was. They simply handed us the invoice and said, "Here you go," barely making eye contact. Our stay came with a wine tasting from their winery. Having asked about booking the tasting when we reserved our room and been told it’s walk in and there will be “no problem,” we were quite put out when reception summarily told us there were no tastings the two days we booked and we could do a tasting on our departure day AFTER we checked out. Great advice to drink and drive as visitors to Australia.

Doot Doot Doot’s ingredients were clearly excellent and portions generous but the food was bland and service was uneven and slow — wine pairings never arrived with the course and typically arrived long after the food was served. We were served and attended to much slower than the tables around us. We were the third table sat for the Christmas dinner and one of the last to finally leave after we asked for the petit fours "to go" and declined the celebratory glass of champagne.
The server seemed very out of sorts with the fact we couldn't eat the enormous portions so I made a joke about having popcorn watching an afternoon movie, to which she replied, "That was a bad idea." I was trying to lighten to uncomfortable mode of the server.

All Jackalope's property (hotel, vineyards, pool, restaurants, artwork) is gorgeous and excellently designed. The rooms are spacious & comfortable. The breakfast staff was friendly and professional, lunch at Rare Hare was fun and tasty.

Jackalope is an all-black cutting-edge architectural design which some might find spectacular and others might find gloomy. We had an upper floor vineyard view room with a lovely view of the pool and hillside vineyards beyond.
The rooms are a very modern design with black walls. Could be a bit dark for some. The toilet and bathroom area is not overly large and has semi-transparent glass.
Mostly ate in Doot, Doot, restaurant which provided a small range of tasty breakfasts and an exquisite dinner menu consisting of a number of small dishes.
Service from the young staff was generally excellent.
This might be a place for a shorter rather than longer stay.

Hello there, Thank you so much for taking the time to write this review. We certainly have a strong art and design focus at the hotel, some have noted that the tonal colour palette further accentuates the rolling vineyards as the backdrop. It's great to hear that you enjoyed your stay and we appreciate your comments on our excellent team. We hope to welcome you back again soon. Best, Tracy Atherton General Manager Jackalope Hotels

Overall we had a really lovely time - we only stayed one night and would definitely recommend two to experience everything it has to offer. The food at both restaurants was great quality and really tasty, as was all of the wine we tasted (you get a complimentary tasting with your stay which was really fun)!

The only downfall was the lack of noise control - we had a really noisy group downstairs which kept us awake at night and you could also hear everyone in the corridor outside of our room really clearly. Our feeling is that a hotel of this kind should be adults only, which was also heightened by the fact you could hear children in the corridor… not the most relaxing!

Overall though the views were amazing and the staff were helpful with lots of suggestions on what to do in the area in terms of walks etc. and we would definitely recommend.

This hotel is the most luxurious hotel my partner and I have ever been to!
We couldn’t believe how beautiful the property was, we did the vineyard walk and it was so peaceful and relaxing!
We spent time in the spa and it was perfect overlooking the vines.
The complimentary snores kit and marshmallows by the open fireplace was also a lovely and unexpected touch!
The room was lovely, the view overlooking the carpark didn’t bother us at all as we hardly spent any time in the room! The room even had heated bathroom floor which we thought was amazing!
The complimentary inclusions such as breakfast (either in Doot Doot Doot or room service) was very nice and had good options! We also loved the complimentary popcorn and ice cream at night too!
We dined at rare hare for dinner and had a drink at the bar and everything we ordered was perfect!
Staff were also very friendly and helpful which goes a long way.
Highly recommend this hotel to anyone considering a luxurious night/nights away!

The Jackalope helped us book transport around the Peninsula. Arthur. He was fantastic. Couldn't recommend him highly enough to get around the Peninsula. We rented a car from the airport to get to the Peninsula, as it was more economical than a car service. Easy drive.
