The grounds are lovely but very difficult to find. WAZE could not get me there as it is in a gated community behind a strip mall area. The room #28 was large and the bathroom as well. There was no place to hang clothes, only over the back of a small chair and desk. The Jacuzzi slowly filled half full with warm water but there is no way to turn it on. There was no way to empty it either . There was NO water in the shower. The sinks( 2 of them!). Had only cold water. The breakfast is a buffet with a nice variety of fresh fruit, cereal, scrambled eggs, sausage and casamiento. The OJ was fresh. The coffee was served by the cup . It is convenient to the US embassy but falls short of my expectation based on the description, photos and reviews.

I enjoyed staying in Hotel Santa Elena. I will recommend it to my family and friends. My only recommendation is to try to keep same prices. It is a very well convenient place near to many attractions.

I booked this hotel at the last minute, and I was not sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised, my room was impeccable, clean sheets, fresh 'n clean towels. The staff was very helpful and professional yet they were friendly and made me feel very comfortable during my two nights stay. Delicious breakfast included, ample choices, The hotel is located in a quiet and safe neighborhood area, it was perfect for relaxing and recharging my batteries during my business trip

Is very friendly, the breakfast is include and the pool is very nice for the type of the hotel. I think is a 3 star hotel, but we felt so nice and like home. The room was nice, perfect size, the shower good. The only thing I thought don't like it, was the prices for the laundry. Everything else just perfect

Don't mean to bash the hotel, but It certainly did not meet me expectations as a young athletic traveler. One of the first challenges was finding the location. As other reviewers have posted it is in a gated what seems to be a residential community, so finding it on gps was close to impossible. Second, it did not have the amenities advertised. After a long day of traveling and site seeing for me I was eager to get to the hotel and work out. The hotel did not have any 'gym facilities' as advertised. That was a real bummer and I was very disappointed because I had been looking forward to this all day. The staff during breakfast hours does not remain and the counter and you will have to wait an incredibly long time to get their attention from behind the wall barrier and cook you some breakfast. I failed the first attempt and returned later for a second try. Water in the sink barely ran, and Bernadine was right, they wake up incredibly early to start the date. I heard what seemed to be resonating knocks all over the hotel with staff, announcing, "Good morning, laundry service!" No please, not this early :) Soon there after I heard the loud engines of construction workers immediately outside my window. You can find much nicer places around the city for equal cost at greater value - Villa Florencia in Zona Rosa for example is a nice quaint place that beats this hotel out of the water for equal value. Happy Traveling!

There's lots to love about this place, but having said that there is lots not to love. If you are looking for 5 star luxury, this is not the place for you. But if you are tired of faceless hotel towers and looking for somewhere informal and laid back, Hotel Santa Elena works! The hotel is located inside a gated community, so it is very secure. It is also in Santa Elena, one of the safer/safest neighbourhoods near San Salvador. There are many restaurants (all chains unfortunately) within walking distance which was very convenient. My room was large with a large Queen sized bed. The AC works, but can be rather noisy - in fact it woke me up several times each night as it makes a strange and loud noise sporadically in the night. Also you only get a very thin sheet as a blanket and it gets very cold at night even when the AC is off! Beware of Room No.2 where my colleague had the misfortune of staying for the first two nights. Room 2 is right next to the reception area and is very noisy - the phones are constantly ringing sometimes through the night and staff are up incredibly early to prepare for the day. It is also quite small and very dark and the windows/curtains dont open. Ask instead for Room 14, 15 or 16. These rooms open out onto the garden and "pool"(more on this later) and you cannot underestimate the value of this. The bathroom was a decent size, although it is one of those bathrooms where you arent quite sure if it is dirty and hasnt been cleaned properly, or simply old! I think I decided it was reasonably clean in the end... Also they only provide one thin roll of toilet paper. I had to ask twice for toilet paper and it was never delivered. Luckily I had a stash of kleenex's in my suitcase. I asked a 3rd time on my second day, and it finally arrived, delivered by a lovely lady who had obviously run to my room from the reception! You will want to bring your own toiletries as they dont provide much apart from soap. Mornings were sometimes a challenge as you are never quite sure when there will hot water in your shower and when there wont be. Some days you get hot water after letting the shower run for about 5 minutes, other days you would be lucky to get lukewarm water after 10 minutes. They did try to fix the issue on the 3rd day but I was rushing for a meeting and couldnt wait and then there wasnt any follow up afterwards. Generally cleanliness was average, they forgot to vacumn in the corners or around the edges of the room. There was no iron or ironing board in the room, and again I had to ask several times before one was made available. However, as there was no ironing board, I had to iron on the desk in my room which was awkward and the results were not good. In the end, I used the laundry service to press my shirts. Shirts came back perfectly crisp although the hotel staff dropped my shirts on the floor twice as she was returning them to me!!! Now it might sound like this is all doom and gloom - but there are 3 things that make this little hotel worthwhile! The first is the patio area that overlooks the tiny pool. I would forgive almost anything for this wonderful little haven where I spent many hours and many days working (and where wifi is surprisingly good). It is lovely to be able to sit outside when it is sunny and warm and to see birds flying around and also to have a water feature/pool nearby (and all the time doing work!) [Note also that the pool is tiny! So my colleague went round and round in circles. Also it wasnt clear how often the pool was cleaned, and there were often little bugs in the water particularly after dark! Plus, the pool is right next to the driveway where people get picked up, dropped off, supplies are delivered, staff stand about smoking etc.] The second saving grace is Cesar, the lovely chef who was so accomodating, so friendly, so helpful and so sweet! He makes a perfect fried egg with soft runny yolks, and his fried plantain is always perfectly ripe and delicious! He always accomodated my request to have extra fried plantain on my plate! Also Cesar is the one person who has managed to get me to not only eat but enjoy refried beans! I dont know what he puts in it but it is delicious! The 3rd point is an extension of the second, the staff are all generally very friendly and very helpful! The housekeeping lady especially was lovely and very helpful. Language can sometimes be a challenge but the staff do always try their best to help. You might not always get the results you were hoping for, but they do try and they are friendly. The best part about Hotel Santa Elena is that it feels like home. After a long day of working, I often felt like I was coming home and I wasnt a stranger in a foreign place.

In Santa Elena there are a few places to stay. Hotel Santa Elena is the best in my opinion because of the location and the price. It is within walking distance to Plaza Madero, a great place full of super places to eat and drink. It's 2 blocks from the US Embassy, so the area is super secure and the hotel is located inside a gated neighborhood so it's really is super secure. At half the price of the Holiday Inn and a small boutique style hotel it is a great place to call home for your trips to San Salvador. The staff is great and the breakfast are out of this world. Cesar the chef makes really great breakfasts and the fact the place is so small, it has the feel of a guest house. I think they have about 20 rooms, but I have never come across more than a handfull of guests each time I have been there. There are 2 very large shopping malls with movies and whatever you might need to purchase within a 15 minute walk or a $4 taxi ride, and its about $25 from the airport. Santa Elena is the nicest and safest area in San Salvador. It is a 20 minute cab ride to zona rosa so the bars aren't too far away in the fashionable area. This is the best bang for you $ in my opinion. I have stayed here on at least 6 occasions and is your best choice!

This was a perfect place to stay - just off the busy Boulevard Santa Elena, easy access but quite and secure. The hotel was spotless and the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was included in the price and you can just tell Caesar what you want and he whips it up for you. Victor the night clerk was particularly helpful in arranging taxis and helping us get organized. He provided the warm welcome we needed after midnight on the day of our arrival. Having a small pool where we could relax at the end of the day was a bonus. The hotel is conviently located close to three large shopping centres where you can shop to your heart's content when you are tired of sightseeing.
