We had three nights here at the end of our Costa Rica holiday and loved it. Very quiet apart from all the noises of the rainforest, clean, simple and very comfortable cabin type rooms with a nice seating area outside, and beautiful surroundings. We did a great early morning bird tour with Kevin, and talked to people who had really enjoyed his night tour. The staff were all delightful and the meals were lovely - they catered perfectly for us not eating red meat and lovely fresh fruit juice was served with meals. The pool was beautiful, and where else could you watch a pair of Baird’s Trogans while swimming? We also liked walking down the approach road where we saw lots of birds and we got great views of manakins on the lodge trails. A perfect place for nature lovers. I would love to go back.

Excellent rooms, outstanding refreshing pool, good food. The staff was excellent and helpful. Bird guides were great! No air conditioning, and it was hot, but it did cool off at night. Showers are warm, natural water. Pool has no chemicals, is warm and refreshing. Lots of birds and animals. They were also very helpful in coming up with borrowed binoculars for those of us who did not have them.

We had 2 nights here as part of a group tour and loved it. It was amazing to be in the middle of the rainforest, with just mesh on the windows so you can hear all the wildlife throughout the night.
The swimming pool was stunning, and we loved being able to swim surrounded by the jungle. The grounds are extensive and beautiful to walk around all the flowers and see the wildlife on the various trails.
We had a few heavy rain storms while we were there which was lovely to watch and still very warm.
The trails can get muddy so the hotel provide wellies which also protect against snakes etc. (bring appropriate socks!)
The rooms were large with verandas to sit on and enjoy the surroundings, but they only have very slow fans so we did find it hard to sleep in the heat and humidity.
The only downside (apart from the heat!) was a big issue with flies at breakfast, resulting in everyone evacuating the breakfast table and finding other places to sit to get away from the influx of flies on the food. It seemed fine at lunch and dinner, so they could really do with nets for the food, or fans to keep the flies away.
But otherwise we loved staying there and its a real experience.

The hotel area is really nice and the staff were amazing but the meals let the hotel down. There is very limited choice with set meals for all so if you are a fussy eater then bring something with you, the meals are also very small. The bar is extremely expensive with cocktails at 10 dollars each, water is the same price as beer. The night walk was good but only lasted around a hour and at 20 dollars a person they certainly make their money here. You are also restricted to where you can go which makes sense as some dangerous animals nearby but limits what you can do on your free time when not on any trips. Overall a nice enough hotel but expensive all round.

This was our fourth stay at Esquinas, and it is as wonderful as ever. Our previous trips have been birdwatching trips, but this was a trip with our daughter, her husband, and her family. We wanted to share this special place with our grandchildren, ages 12 and 8. It was a favorite place on our trip for us all. Fernando shared information regarding birds, and Julia was patient and caring, sharing knowledge and making sure the children had great wildlife sightings. The rooms are comfortable, the lodge is a pleasant place to read, play a game or watch wildlife, and the food was delicious. We highly recommend a visit to Esquinas, whether you are a serious birdwatcher or a lover of wildlife.

Just returned from a two-night stay with 9 other guests from the San Vito Bird Club (sanvitobirdclub.org). Great birding and amazingly well maintained and manicured trails. Customer service very professional. Amazing night walk. Food was fine but I'm not a good judge; some of my group found it lacking. I highly recommend Las Esquinas Lodge for birding and general nature fans.

We spent two nights here as part of a tour of Costa Rica. The rooms are simple, with a balcony and chairs outside so you can sit and watch the birds. The bathroom was nice and recently refurbished. No glass in the windows, just mesh.
It is very humid, so everything feels damp. Beds were comfortable.
The food in the restaurant is good, again simple and no choice (they display the menu in advance so you can let them know if you don’t eat something). Breakfasthad a choice of three options.

It was very peaceful and relaxing, the staff were good. We did the night hike which was well worth it.

The lodge feels like it's deep in the rainforest. The rooms, the restaurant and the swimming pool were fantastic - the best on my two week trip. Stylish and high quality. As the lodge is quite small you can never feel crowded there. The restaurant food was very good. A fer de lance snake was on the grounds and the staff took care to let us know where it was and even to check for me that it hadn't moved closer to the pool when I wanted to go there to swim. I appreciated the story of the place, which I learned from a movie, but I also appreciated it as a great boutique hotel

You're cordially welcomed by the manager (Julia) upon arrival and shown around the area. It's a big place but cabins are built in such a way that it gives you a nice sense of privacy. The cabins are really neat : spotlessly clean, spacious and equipped with all modern comfort. And birds and agoutis, lizards and basilisk show up right at your porch.
The meals are fingerlicking good.
Not a cheap place but worth every cent.

Visited as part of a tour and of the 6 places we visited this was probably my favourite. Beautiful flower- filled gardens and several trails. The approach road is amazing for birds and I spent many happy hours walking it. A tayra was regularly seen in the gardens. Cabins were adequate and food was good. One night after a terrific thunderstorm all lights went out, but the staff must be well prepared and still managed to cook us a nice candlelit meal.

Hello Anthony, you can look at the facilities and our menu on our website. A visit to Esquinas is a genuine nature experience. Don't expect high life, music or dancing. We find that observing the nature and the animals and listening to the sounds of the rainforest offer enough entertainment. As an ecolodge in the middle of the jungle, we offer day and night hikes, horseback tours and boat tours in the area. We have one bar that is open from 5.30 to 10.00, and an honour system fridge from which you can serve yourself.

There is power in the lodges, although these are very basic. Best to contact the manager regarding how to get there. Marilyn
