Easy walk from central train station, Haymarket light rail station across the road, China town train station 3 minutes down the road. Lots of Asian cuisine restaurants nearby and next door. Markets next door. Cook & Phillip swim pool 15 minutes walk away. Toilet & shower clean. Good 8 hour sleep with little noise but I was in the back of the building. In house bar and pub downstairs. Electronic keys and quick checkout. No gym but park near the train station for jogging.
This is positive on all fronts. The location is perfect, the room is lovely and exactly as advertised. The reception staff are very pleasant and helpful. The only slight negative I have is that I wish there was more than one washer/dryer for guest use. Other than that - great!
I have stayed previously a day found it good value but now rather pricey accommodation and drinks. Also bed was too firm for me. REstaurant was good value But nothing else. I won't be staying again unless no other option.
Recently spent four nights at GSH on the sixth floor the room was clean no noise it is so central to everything you might want front door trams back door restaurants the whole place is fantastic Restaurant 1903 has fantastic food and staff very helpful, value for money u will be going back to stay soon
Stayed for nine nights and I was very satisfied with the price/quality. Excellent location, minutes walk to Sydney Central Train station, Murrays buses, tram right in front, lots of asian restaurants in the area. Also within minutes walk from City Market mall (with Paddy Market) and Metro-Woolworths Decent sized room, comfortable bed, surprisingly clean carpet, fridge, kettle, laptop size safe, lots of power outlets in the room (even an USB one), italian style shower, good water pressure, super hot water, very good AC and even a fan ceiling, no issues with the free WiFi. I paid for unserviced room and had to ask at the reception for extra soap, shampoo, TP, tea bags, coffee. Very friendly reception staff. In the main lobby they offer breakfast for 12 AUS$. For budget traveler is hard to beat the price-quality. Highly recommended…
A quiet and relaxed room we were given. 5th floor facing the street we couldn't hear a thing. Clean and comfy. TV a bit dated and couldn't connect computer. For the price it was great. Awesome food served down stairs in the hotel area fresh and very tasty. Great prices and staff were lovely. Would I stay again? For sure mainly for the food downstairs. Note the advertisement for a buffet breakfast in the lift doesn't exist!
Possibly the dirtiest hotel room I have ever been in. Hair and stains all over the pillow case and blanket. The trash hasn’t even been emptied, it was still filled with used stained tissue paper and clumps and clumps of hair. Every corner was covered in dust and hair balls. Absolutely disgusting. When I advised reception, the gentleman said they’re fully book, and he would let his supervisor know in the morning. (So I guess I just have to sleep in this filthy room, thanks!)
Character, Art Deco style hotel located at the Haymarket end of busy George Street. It won't suit those seeking a modern 4-5 star hotel, as the rooms are a little dark, and my bed only reasonably comfy. However, if you can live without those trimmings, the rooms are surprisingly quiet for the location, there are numerous exceptional antiques and curios around the place, the streetside seating is a great place to enjoy a drink and watch the world go by, and the bar and reception staff are all very good. Staff assisted me greatly by storing my bag between 10 am checkout and my 1900 coach depature. Water pressure in the updated bathroom/shower very good too. Would stay here again for location and reasonable tariff.
We have been staying at this hotel for around ten years. It is priced well. Located near trains, trams, buses, shops, entertainment hubs, China Town, Thai town. Very clean. Great reception staff. My only comment is that if the room is ready early you can pay $20.00 to get in or leave your bags at no cost. We leave our bags and go back. If the room is ready then I think you should be able to access it at no charge. we have never been asked this at any other hotel.
This hotel will be a convenience place when you try to find a place to stay in Sydney, where all the activities around the city is in a walking distance. This hotel is an old building, but they take a good care of it so make your stay enjoyable
