I think my first visit to TGSH was when I was 6yo (circa 1963) And I don't think I have been there since? Friends born and breed in the: Riverina and West of the Blue Mountains tell me that TGSH was also their hotel! I guess that being so very close to Central railway station meant that families had only...

The room was like a sauna. Would prefer to pay an extra $50-100 and stay somewhere with functioning air con and have a decent sleep. Also, 2 single beds pushed together is not a king sized bed. You're not fooling anyone! Won't be staying here again.

If all you are looking for in a hotel is for somewhere to sleep and shower then this hotel is ideal. For the cheap prices you are given a clean, basically appointed room with a comfortable bed, shower, etc. The views from the room are a bit hit and miss. But the way I saw it i only needed the...

Great location - only 2 minutes walk from Central Station and 10 minutes walk to Chinatown. This hotel is full of history with many original artifacts in the reception area and in the hallways. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are small but they have all the basics including a fridge and tea/coffee making facilities. Great value for money...

The manager of this hotel has no concept of hospitality. We arrived in a group of 19 people that flew from the US and were tired, at 9 AM, and he said that check in was only at 2 PM and made us wait until then. I am positive that there were vacant rooms that he could have put us...

The Great Southern is ideally situated for Darling Harbour, the Credit Union Arena, the Capitol Theatre, XPT trains and regional buses. The rooms are clean and nicely appointed with the option of 'housekeeping' or 'no housekeeping' for a cheaper tariff. The dining room is very nice and the food was delicious

The Great Southern offers comfortable and affordable accomodation. Close to rail easy walk. Central to most of city. We enjoy being able to have a meal in the hotel and a drink at happy hour each day.

Can't beat this for location and value. It's only a small room but it's clean and well appointed. Staff were efficient I had book 5 rooms for a group and we were all very happy. We needed an early start from Central Station so location was spot on. With bars on-site easy to have a drink before turning in for...

My experience was delightful. I stayed for a week with my mother. It is near Central station and in the city. It was convenience for me. The room was big enough for 2 people. However if you're looking for a stunning view, I dont recommend you to stay here. The service of the staff was fine. They can speak different...

Hotel was close to Chinatown...cheap eats and shopping. Market city/paddy's market is just a short walk from hotel. Tram to the fish market, harbour side/darling harbour and the casino is a block from the hotel. The free cba shuttle also stops near the hotel. Our bed was so comfy. Room was clean and there are basic necessities like soap and...

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Tiger-flanked archways on Dixon Street mark the entrance to the “little Asia” of Sydney. A walk through Chinatown is a feast for the senses where aromas, tastes, sounds and visions of dancing tigers transport you to a different world. Chinatown visitors can expect a melting pot of Asian food at the neighbourhood's specialty delis and groceries. From yum cha to handmade noodles, BBQ ducks hanging in the window to Asian sweets and bakeries, there is something for all tastes. Paddy’s Markets is the largest flea market in Sydney where you can find souvenirs, clothing, gifts and fruit and vegetables at unbeatable prices. At night, Chinatown comes alive with entertainment including theatre, nightclubs and bars that are open until the early morning.
