This hostel made my stay in Sydney a bad one. Overall the only good thing about this place is the location, which is convenient if it suits your lifestyle, for example if you're working around the area. If not, don't stay here. There is no vibe, you're not going to make friends for life here. The rooms are way too...

Well, the second time I came here, which was basically so write a review of the place, did impress me a little more, but since it has gone from one star to two stars that probably doesn't say all that much. At first I thought it was just a pokies room and a sports bar, however when I came here...

The former Strattons Hotel now known as Dowling is starting to improve. Recently renovated, it is looking better and the staff are friendly enough. There is a brief bar menu which is adequate for lunch. The lack of air conditioning makes it extremely uncomfortable on warmer days or during peak periods. The meals are usually prompt and of standard pub...

Above are just some of the adjectives Id use to describe this place. Certainly NOT a place you'd want to stay when visiting Sydney. The pub is grubby. Try's but fails to match the traditional Sydney pubs. Go to the many other pubs in Park and Elizabeth Streets only 200 metres away. Leave this pub for the many "tradies" or...

The only good thing about this hostel is the location. There is no wi-fi on this location, you have to walk to another hostel where they only have wifi in the lobby. It smells horrible, I saw a couple of roaches in my room, no toilet paper, dirty carpet, dirty bathroom. You really do get what you paid for. If...

Went up stairs to the restaurant for the $5 steak. Edible, quick and with good service. Cheap and cheerful - as long as your not looking for anything else it's fine! Would I go back? Probably not! The place is dank and dinghy and needs s good scrub

Typical of an Oscars hotel, you don't get what you pay for. The accom. Is extremely grubby, filthy, and there is zero security so expect to lug all your gear around Syd if you don't want anything pinched. There are much better hostels located only 200 metres away at central railway station so I'd try there first. Don't come to...

First of all the hostel (hotel) are on Castlereagh St. and the reception is in George St. (2 block away) so at the beginning we were lost (caring all our luggage) looking for the reception. The WiFi it's only available at the reception and the speed its no good. When we came in to the room there was a dead...

this is NOT a hotel it is backpackers accommodation - had to walk two blocks to another place and up 2 flights of stairs to get key and then do that again to get towels. There is no lift and a walk up 3 flights of stairs to get to basic room - no TV or any other niceties. Very...

I have stayed in several hotels all over the world, and have reviewed quite a few of them. This is my lowest rated one ever. I am not too fussy with hotels and hostels, but this is just absurd. When you book online they tell you there is WIFI, which I expect to pay for because you do almost everywhere...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with energy. Power brokers run to and from high rise buildings and after-work drink places, high-end shoppers tour venues like the QVB, and fine diners frequent the many celebrity chef restaurants. For a dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens or picnic lunch at High Park. No matter your interest, be sure to check the full calendar of events hosted by the city, from the Sydney Festival in January to October’s Good Food Month at Hyde Park.

“The kitchen is on the second floor, so there were alot of people coming and going to this level (however we were thankful to be on the second floor because after carrying your bags up World Square Hostel to check in and then carrying your bags two blocks up the road to Strattons - we wouldn't have made it up any more stairs!!)”
