This hostel is in an excellent location and the staff really kicked it up a notch. The location is close to Circular Quay which a little hub of travel, trains and ferries to take you anywhere you need to go. Lots of great restaurants and pubs very nearby and also close to the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Opera House,...

If you do nothing else when you visit this hostel, eat a meal up on the terrace and soak in views of the harbour with the bridge and Opera House right there! The location is fantastic, nice design with archaeological digs under the building, shared kitchen facilities very good. Our quad share room was clean and spacious enough, just a...

5 of us stayed here the night before a cruise. Could not recommend it more. Easy to get to, large lounge, nice rooms, nice views on the roof, walk to the ship, quick, courteous, fairly priced. It was great. Try it,

Four of us (senior-ish) stayed for 2 nights in this great accommodation. Our 2 en-suite rooms were clean, comfortable and light- basic but it is a hostel. The views from the roof terrace made it worth every cent - even the surprise fireworks on Saturday night (seems there was a wedding on the Opera grounds). Lots of pubs, restaurants and...

We stayed for 3 nights in November in one of the family rooms. The hostel is a great place to explore sydney - 5 minutes walk to opera house / harbour and walkable distance to darling harbour as well. The rooms were practical - clean, safe and comfortable and the terrace was just great. We had the opera house lit...

Superb stay in a fantastic location with an outstanding view. As hostels go, this one was second to none. Clean, comfortable, modern rooms, great facilities, walking distance to harbour, and a rooftop terrace that has to be seen to be believed. Will undoubtedly be back.

Stayed here for 2 nights with a friend. Great location, very central to everything you need in central Sydney. Has all essential amenities, clean and efficient. Would stay here again and recommend for travellers on a budget.

We have stayed at the Sydney Harbour YHA Rocks a few times over the last couple of years and have it fabulous. It has an excellent wheelchair accessible accommodation which is ideal for us. For my daughters 30th b'day in November we had booked well in advance to stay in a wheelchair accessible room. Two days prior to our departure...

This hostel is of a high standard. It is value for money, clean, quiet and comfortable. The view from rooftop is breathtaking arguably one of the best views in Sydney - it encompasses Sydney Harbour, the Opera House and city building skyline. The room I stayed in had a small hallway with vanity and mirror outside of personal shower and...

Stayed here for 4 nights upon arriving in Australia. Paid $700 for 4 nights in a private room with ensuite, apparently a great deal for shockingly expensive Sydney. Room was incredibly clean with partial view of opera house. Bed was thin-mattressed and very firm - looked and felt like a military barracks. Shower was spacious and pressure strong. Air conditioning...

Hi Karen We're sorry you found the room too warm. We have checked the air con and it is working properly through our 'on-request' system but it is set at 22 degrees - as part of the environmentally sustainable practices in the hostel to reduce our carbon footprint. Most guests find this a comfortable temperature. The lift was out of...

Staying in The Rocks

Neighbourhood Profile
The Rocks
The first residents of the Rocks were convicts and sailors from the old nation. As the oldest neighbourhood in the city, the area's cobblestone streets host more than 100 heritage sites and buildings, including the oldest house in Sydney, Camden Cottage, which was built in 1816. Taste a “midi “ or a “schooner” of beer and dine “al fresco” on the waterfront at some of the oldest pubs in Sydney. The weekend markets at the Rocks are where you can find local artists' hand-made souvenirs, organic food and designer jewelry in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. To enjoy some of the best Australian and international contemporary art, the MCA museum is open every day and select evenings. At the end of a long day of sightseeing, be sure to save energy to dance the night away at the area's many late night entertainment venues.
