The Porter House Hotel Sydney - MGallery stands out for its modernity and stylish atmosphere, with many guests appreciating the high-tech amenities and sophisticated decor. While the rooms are celebrated for their cleanliness and contemporary features, some guests feel they could be more spacious and offer better storage options. The location earns high marks for convenience, though opinions on value are divided; the elegance and dining experience are highlights for some, yet others are less impressed, citing costs and construction noise. Service is generally well-regarded, though not without occasional hiccups.

I stayed at the hotel for six nights on a work trip. Although it claims to be a five-star hotel, it doesn’t measure up when compared to other hotels in that category. The location in the central business district is convenient, with shopping and the metro nearby, but it is quite noisy. When I checked in, I specifically asked the front desk if my room would be noisy, and I was assured it would not be. However, I was placed on the second floor, where I could hear everything from the street, as well as my neighbors opening their curtains each morning. If I were running the front desk, I would have attempted to move guests from lower floors to avoid the noise.

The biggest issues I encountered were with housekeeping and the front desk staff. My room was never properly cleaned, and when I inquired at the front desk, they simply informed me that they outsource their cleaning services. I had to complain three times. The floors were dirty, they did not pick up any used glasses or replace them with clean ones, and they failed to replace towels or clean the sinks. The rooms are small, and while the beds are comfortable, the sheets felt cold and uncomfortable. Additionally, there were no extra blankets in the room, making the overall experience feel similar to that of an upscale Holiday Inn.

The on-site restaurants are quite nice, but the front desk staff did not provide any information about them or other hotel amenities, which made it feel like a guessing game.

I would not choose to stay here again.

Potentially quite a classy hotel , well located in the heart of the city, close to transport, the central (Hyde) park and Chinatown with some of the best eating in town.
The rooms are very spacious and some of the facilities are high quality. Large bed, modern bathroom/toilet and large flat screen television.
So far so good. It should be rated excellent but there are notable deficiencies. These partly relate to service and partly to setup.
Beware taking a room below level five (5). We were given a room on level 3A ( there is no level 4 to allow for Chinese superstition) which was small with the tiny window opening to the light well facing another window about 3 metres away. I complained and with great apology given another room facing out to the street on L5. So when booking always specify street view because they try to palm off the poor quality rooms first even if, as when we stayed, the hotel was far from full. Nasty and shameful and left a bad taste.
The hotel only has a la carte breakfast which is expensive and the dining area not particularly cosy or pleasant.
The rooms have floating timber floors which are also not very cosy but are very clean. The room facilities are all controlled by a tablet on a bedside table. It is heavy and bulky and awkward to use. The curtains only operate with this as does the television which only shows the name but not the channel number so a lot of scrolling is required. The lights operate on wall panels and the tablet. The air conditioning also operates on both but its wall panels are virtually impossible to operate and the system is very slow to respond.
This could be a hotel to remember for the right reasons. When all is said and done most quality hotels give you quality facilities and so this hotel does not stand out as special except for the defects which mean, yes it’s good but I wouldn’t be rushing back.

My wife and I stayed three nights at the Porter House Hotel in Sydney. This is now our go to hotel in Sydney as it ticked all our boxes.
Firstly, the location was great for us to explore Sydney with easy proximity to transport with train and bus stations a short walk away and the major shopping centres just around the corner.
I liked the design of the hotel incorporating the old Porter House building which housed the restaurants and Traders bar into the modern sleeping section of the hotel. You mostly find these days especially in Brisbane that only the facade is retained and everything else is knocked down.
The room was very modern with everything controlled in the room by the iPad including the curtains making it easy to see what was on TV instead of going through the remote. The room had by far the best block out curtains we have ever experienced in a hotel making a sleeping-in easy in the morning.
By far the biggest asset of the hotel is the staff. They are all so friendly and make you feel special amongst all the guests. We would recommend the hotel to anyone staying in Sydney.

A hotel that had all the makings of being a great hotel but falls short on things. Room was clean and tastefully furnished; however severely lack areas to hang items and very limited "useful" space (Room is large). We ended up just leaving our suitcases on the floor opened. Housekeeping was friendly and fast; but did forget to address requests multiple times. Food was delicious but unusually small portions for some of the dishes raises the question of "is this due to rising cost of living?". Front desk staff was polite, very pleasant but constantly needing to check with their manager (simple questions such as where to park our car to pick up our luggage). Not a business/work-friendly hotel; I needed a quiet space to take a conference call and was asked to book a conference room! And finally - would not recommend this hotel until the nearby train station is completed - construction work continued over the night and the incessant drilling and hammering made the night very restless. So... have the potential to be great... but at this moment, falls short.

My partner and I stayed here for three nights just before Christmas. The hotel is absolutely perfectly located very close to Museum station and in the rain coming from the airport it was almost all undercover.

Being and Accor diamond, they certainly looked after us. We had a beautiful room overlooking the park. It was very well appointed and quite large, although I would have to say the tech that controls everything in the room was probably a bit of an overkill. Although I do like all the gadgets, I do also like manual options

The hotel breakfast is fantastic and the staff in that restaurant are amazing. They even made a great coffee, which often is lacking in hotels.

The only thing I would say wasn’t negative is the reception staff are very curt. I didn’t feel particularly warm talking to them and they didn’t really make me feel particularly welcome. They seem to be very busy with their heads in the computer and every time you walk past they never with their heads and say hello which I thought was a bit weird. But to be honest, that’s my only gripe.

This is a great hotel beautifully designed in an amazing location and I think being new they can just on a few of the kinks out and all will be fantastic

Stayed 4 nights mid-week. Fantastic location - across the road from a new metro station and 5-10 mins walk to main shopping, tourist and food locations.
Good facilities, helpful staff. Room a decent size, well equipped, clean, quiet, comfy bed.
BUT the room door was very difficult, needing a massive push or pull to open. Room also badly needs a second chair. Housekeeping was a bit below standard - cups not washed properly; some consumeables not replaced. Restaurant/bar very chic, but menu quite limited. Very good breakfast options and service.

Deep disappointment following my recent stay at your establishment, which is supposed to enjoy a prestigious reputation as a five-star hotel having opened its doors in September 2022.
Unfortunately, my experience fell far short of my expectations in terms of quality of service and hospitality.
First of all, I was dismayed by the level of cleanliness of my room. The presence of dust and dirt on several surfaces left something to be desired and did not meet the standards expected of a hotel of your category.
Additionally, the slow room service significantly hampered my convenience during my stay. Furthermore, the nonchalant attitude of the staff at the reception was particularly worrying. Despite my attempts to communicate my concerns and expectations, it seemed that my requests were being overlooked, and the lack of adequate response to my needs contributed to my frustration.
Overall, I expected my stay at your five-star establishment to be a memorable and enjoyable experience, but unfortunately, it turned out to be quite the opposite.
Finally, because it is indecent to say the least, the price asked for this accommodation (AUD$525 per night) is well beyond what is justified by the quality of service provided for an establishment displaying 5 stars.

My wife and I stayed at the hotel for four nights at the beginning of December.
We chose the hotel because of the location and fantastic reviews on the web.
The hotel is located between City Hall and Hyde Park, a very central location with countless shopping centers, shops, fast food outlets, restaurants and various attractions in the city, as well as having tram and train stops just a few minutes walk away.
The hotel consists of two buildings, one where the reception and three bars and restaurants are located, set up in an old factory, of which some original structures are still preserved, and the other annex building which consists of 11 floors, 10 of which They house the rooms and the gym and outdoor pool are located on number 11.
As for the positive things about the hotel, the very central location, the reception staff, who helped us in everything they could, recommended things to do and visit in the city, especially thank Nicole and Betsy for their kindness and sympathy. They made us feel like home.
Breakfast in the restaurant was fantastic, great coffee and the friendliness of the staff, especially Pia who waited on us for several days.
The room, as other guests comment, is very modern and spacious, the bed is very comfortable and everything is controlled by a tablet that is very modern, but for some things we miss a manual light source such as the one in the bathroom.
The gym has very new and modern machinery and the pool, although small, is ideal for cooling off on the hottest days.

The negative aspects are the noise that is heard in the rooms located on the street side, the rooms should be better soundproofed, we stayed in a room that overlooked the interior patio, and the noise from the street was not heard as much. street, but you could hear the noise of the air conditioning machines, which are easier to get used to.
The cleanliness of the room could be improved for a 5-star hotel, although nothing serious.

In general, we really liked the hotel as a whole and we would stay again if we visit Sydney again.

This hotel, which opened at the end of 2022, boasts a beautiful design with a well-thought-out colour scheme and functional layout. However, our experience was disappointing due to noise issues and some missing details that affected our stay.

We arrived last night after a 13.5-hour flight. When booking in November, I specifically requested a quiet room, but this request was completely ignored. We were given Room 209, and despite wearing earplugs, we could hardly sleep due to the excessive noise.

The receptionist was difficult to understand and didn’t come across as particularly welcoming. This may have been partly due to the loud music near the reception area, which made communication even harder.

The room itself was beautifully laid out but lacked some essentials:
- There was no bottled water available because they were out of stock—something we've never encountered in all our travels. Water should always be a basic provision. They eventually retrieved some from the bar but mentioned the cost would be charged back to the hotel, which highlighted a disconnect between the hotel and its F&B department.
- No tea cups were provided, only saucers.
- The bathroom had noticeable hair from the previous guest on both the toilet floor and shower wall, which was disappointing.

The biggest issue, however, was the noise from outside. Cars were accelerating loudly throughout the night, making it feel like we were in Istanbul. Having stayed in many major cities, we believe better soundproofing could have mitigated this problem.

Overall, while the hotel has great potential, the lack of attention to detail and excessive noise made our stay less enjoyable than expected.

We were booked into this hotel as part of a group for a 4 night stay. Our first room faced the road where there were major building works going on all night so impossible to sleep We complained and were given another room so had to pack everything up in order to move. It was a smaller room but at least it was quiet. Everything is controlled by an iPad so there is a low level light in the toilet for night time use but it also lights the mirror over the basin. As there is no door one cannot use this during the night. And when you wake up in the morning you have to use the iPad to turn on the lights. The whole place is tech gone mad. There’s no floor 4
but there is 3A but that’s only accessible from one lift. Tried to access the pool on floor 11 but didn’t work. Basically in my view they’ve forgotten the hospitality basics of a good night’s sleep, decent shower and hot breakfast. I would never stay here again.
