We stayed at the Horizon Room Opera view, it did not dissapoint us. As soon as we walked into our room we already felt that we are on holiday. The view was amazing, the room was super clean and everything we needed was there. The Horizon club lounge was an experience to remember, the service was top notch. Special mention to John, Niraj and Nikka. I wish I can remember everyone’s name that served us at the Horizon club , thank you for looking after us. The view of Harbour and Opera house was stunning at the Horizon lounge . The food was great and breakfast was superb. The only thing maybe just add a bit more choices for breakfast. Overall, we had an amazing experience and unforgettable birthday celebration. Definitely will be back in Shangrila soon. Thank you Shangrila Sydney!

Hotel's Favourite
We have stayed at the Shangri-La Sydney (and Bangkok, Hong Kong, KL, KK, Penang etc.) on many occasions but never on Christmas Day. We absolutely loved it, from the beautiful suite to the Christmas Carol Singers and the excellent food choices in the Horizon Club Lounge. And of course seeing Jerry during the breakfast service, who always radiates warmth, friendliness, kindness and his amazing smile. The Horizon Club just wouldn’t be the same without him. We will definitely go out of our way to stay at Christmas again, next time for longer. This is a beautiful hotel with probably one of the best views out over the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. The staff are friendly and helpful and the service was excellent. This was an extra special stay at a wonderful time of the year and we only have positive comments for this hotel and can't wait to return.

We booked via Webjet for 3 nights for my wife’s birthday from a Sunday, staying in an high floor executive city harbour view room. We arrived @12pm to a busy check-in where we waited for @5 minutes. We were then advised the room wasn’t ready & check-in is usually 3pm, & told we could leave our bags & would be notified when ready. Unfortunately we weren’t notified & at 4pm returned to check-in & our room still wasn’t ready! We were then allocated another! The room itself was nice, with a big bathroom, comfy bed & decent 28th floor view of the Opera house. Oddly there was only one chair to relax on other than a desk chair?! We found the hotel staff to be attentive, & the room service staff & food itself excellent, as was the complimentary wine & cake presented for my wife’s birthday. On the downside we found items in our room out of date, such as the almonds, additionally there was no complimentary water in the room, it was only available from the fountain on the ground floor. Also while room service food is expected to be higher than normal, the additional room service ‘tray’ charge of $12 seemed excessive! Finally it should be noted the hotel is in a very hilly location so if you plan to walk anywhere it will invoke a ‘lot’ of steep steps or hills! Overall we would rate our stay 7.5/10 & suggest if this is a 5 star hotel there is room for improvement as we would try somewhere else next time.

After cancelling my reservation at the Miller Hotel, I made a quick booking here. What could have been a poor, late-night check-in experience was the exact opposite. A very positive reception and rooms overlooking the Sydney Opera House made an instant impact. The hotel is in a great location, and I believe it is well worth the nightly rate. Highly recommended.

The Sydney Shangri-La-la used to be my go to every time in Sydney including organising customer stays but I have to say the overall experience has declined to a level that has forced me to now stay else where. The final straw was June when we were told at 4pm the room had a technical issue and we were very open that we had prior engagement at 6.45. Front desk tried to give us another room BUT manager declined her request in front of us. We were given access to the lounge but eventually after numerous requests at 6.20 we found the rooms technical issue was smoking in it by prior guests - yes not the hotels fault but they could have been open with us as if we had been given this room with the smell of smoke it would have been a lot worse. So then we were give the room originally asked for and went to appointment unshowered which was less than pleasing. At circa $1100 a night was totally unacceptable and not even a sorry about that even when followed up. I think they are living on the past and the entire business needs a significant shift in customer relations.

We had the pleasure of staying at the Shangri-La and the service was impeccable. We stayed in room 3510 and the view was breathtaking. The rooms were well appointed and the beds were extremely comfortable. The breakfast offered in the club lounge was very delicious and offered a variety of options. Thank you to Watson and Ryan in the Horizon Club for providing stellar guest service. We will definitely book the Shangri-La again on our next trip to Sydney.

The hotel is located in a lovely spot however clearly an old hotel. Rooms are not exactly what I was expecting, bathrooms are large and clean but touches of updating needed, bed was large and very comfortable with good quality white sheets which was an absolute plus. Tea and coffee supplies were not great, for the price of the room I was expecting to find a decent coffee in the room but sadly this was lacking although lots of tea choice shame I don’t drink tea!! Curtains looked dirty and tiered and I got a industrial view of cranes from my room. I must admit that I was so tiered after travelling for two days that in arrival I just wanted to get showered and into bed but I was not accommodated instead messed around I was told by a concierge girl after she had taken my money on hold for the whole duration of my stay for incidentals that I had to wait half an hour for my room to be ready, an hour later I was still waiting…… not amused by the lack of service I then reviewed where I could stay instead and proceeded to ask to cancel my entire booking only then was I offered a room immediately. My point is that hotels are in business to host guests, to which I am one but when you can see a guest is tiered and clearly been travelling long distances surely you should be looking to make their visit comfortable and smooth. I also had booked a high tea in the Blu Bar at $400 it was not the best experience I have had left waiting as the time was 10 minutes earlier than booking time!! Very disappointing then the food was pleasant but no service, no coffee or tea offered literally more cake than savoury which was looking wilted and I ordered a cake for my friends birthday $$ again expensive cake slice 30 AU$ but when I asked for it to be boxed that was left to us…. Would not recommend it as I am sure Sydney has some excellent eateries for the same price. The view was definitely worth seeing but that was the only plus point here.

I have been loyal to this property since 2004 for my annual trips to Sydney. Much has changed at this hotel in the post Covid era. Sadly, as with most places, not for the better. I stayed in a Horizon Club suite. The following are all areas where standards have greatly slipped and need improvement. 1. In blatant violation of the law the hotel had 4 staff members explain to me why they cannot issue a tax invoice or in my case any invoice. I booked through American Express Fine Hotels and as such I was explained no invoice of any kind was possible. Whilst I gave them a very reasonable explanation of Australian tax law and its purposes, they had me “bugger” off. 2. The furniture throughout the property is in rough shape. The chairs in the Horizon Club lounge are in pitiful condition. (see image) 3. The room showed signs of wear and tear. Whilst a partial renovation was done years ago the room shows its old bones. The shower cabin is discolored (see image), furnishings are damaged (see image) and there are obvious issues present. 4. Turn down service must now be requested. 5. Housekeeping is very inconsistent. My carpets had crumbs on them for days until finally one housekeeper vacuumed. That said, one peanut remained on the floor for my 6 day stay. Housekeeping largely only changed towels and emptied trash. Not 5 star for sure. 6. They did not leave complimentary water in the room until day 3. 7. The QR code interface is clumsy and has errant information like the laundry form and prices listed therein. 8. The lower level door is closed which is just annoying when walking down to the Rocks or Circular Quay. 9. Staff struggle with the English language. 10. The breakfast buffet has been drastically reduced and moved to the top floor Altitude venue. I found the breakfast and service in the Horizon Club better than Altitude. The new breakfast is beyond pathetic compared to before. 11. When you call the service center it is common they do not answer you. 12. The wireless internet was erratic and/or not working at all for 2 days of my stay. Unreal! 13. The shower water pressure is inadequate. 14. In my suite the bedroom was 2-3 degrees warmer than the room which was annoying when sleeping. 15. The lighting controls are inadequate. For example, in the bathroom it’s all on or all off. That sucks in the middle of the night if you need to go. In the sitting room the lights by the TV could not be turned off except by the master switch. Annoying and no mood lighting. 16. The $100USD credit for Amex FH&R bookings is converted to AUD at 10% below the actual exchange rate. Pathetic and mean. 17. My TV did not work well, I could not access movies or my folio. 18. A staff member ignored my Do Not Disturb Button and woke me up. 19. Delivering a bucket of ice takes 45+ minutes each time. 20. The staff answer to most things is “I don’t know” Positive Points (Most are not driven by the management) 1. The location is good. 2. The views from many rooms are excellent. 3. They were gracious and had my room ready in the morning the day I arrived from a very long US flight. 4. The staff in the Horizon club were somewhat attentive. 5. My room was quiet. Horizon Club Experience The Horizon Club is an attractive space but for the ruinous furniture. The breakfast experience is quite good and actually a highlight. Equally, the nighttime drinks and finger foods are quite pleasant. Though they could add a bit better spirits, like an aged rum for example, and better vodka. The afternoon tea experience is very poor. The foods are by and large airline quality and very uninspired to awful. If you ask anything non food and beverage related from the staff, while friendly, are utterly clueless and cannot handle the request. Even though I got a fairly reasonable room rate, I did find the experience off putting. The corner cutting and slipping standards are problematic. Staff are largely new and rather inept. There are options in Sydney and for my part I will likely try another hotel after being loyal to this one since 2004 which I am sad to say. My advice is if the price is really good and you understand this hotel is really more 3.5 star in all respects it may be worthwhile to try it. Otherwise, if the rates are high go elsewhere as this place will only offer disappointment.

I booked Shangri-La as I was participating in the Sydney Marathon and wanted to stay close to the event. My parents, wife and kids travelled with me too. All of us loved the location of the hotel, right behind The Rocks in Sydney. The hotel rooms were great and the buffet breakfast was very good too. The views from their restaurant Altitude are simply amazing.
