We have stayed at this hotel many times but not in last 5 years. Another great stay with excellent modern rooms. Ours was looking straight down George Street! Loved the colored lighting in room. We used the pool on top floor twice and enjoyed our complimentary drinks in Eves Place. Were rewarded with a bottle of red wine in our room as ALL Platinum members. Breakfast had extensive range. Can't beat the location and we walked down the Darling Harbour both days. Overall excellent stay and concierge looked after our bags and even tracked taxi for us keeping us updated. Staff at reception could teach other hotels a few things. My wife mentioned that they really gave her special treatment due to our ALL status and it set the tone for our stay. This was clearly noticed. We would definitely stay here again!…
Booked a suite. Checked in on line when it opened two days before. Advised we would arrive before 2pm. We had a 4 hour drive with crazy Sydney traffic. Contacted hotel asking if our room would be ready on arrival. Told to arrive, it should be ok. Arrived at 1.30pm told room wasn’t ready, no problem, we were parked in basement, apparently when I booked to hotel they didn’t book parking even though I requested it. They took a $1 ‘guarantee’ and then took full payment of the accommodation up front. When I queried why they needed the $1 guarantee when I had provided my credit card details in the booking. No satisfactory answer. With that over we went for a walk, and came back at 3.30pm. Check in is 3pm, but our room is still not ready. Told we could take a room on a lower floor, but decided we’d wait, was offered a drink at the bar but couldn’t take our 9 year old granddaughter. So we asked to go to pool for a swim. They didn’t know if there was a change room on the pool level. They wouldn’t give us an access key. Finally we got the concierge to take us to the pool, with a request that we have room access by 4.30pm. Finally at 4.20pm the concierge arrived at the pool with our key, we had 1 hour to shower and change before we needed to leave for our booking. It’s 5 days and the $1 ‘guarantee’ still hasnt been refunded. NOTE pool is on roof, up three steep flights of fire stairs. Lift access is not working. None of this is mentioned anywhere when booking. I even called to check the facilities were in working order. Breakfast was ok, but the coffee machine makes horrible coffee. Ask the barista for a coffee. Overall not a particularly good experience.…
This is our goto hotel in Sydney. * Parking on site. Lift goes up to your room a charging station for EV * Newly rennovated. The Schwartz family have spent a fortune on it. * Taxis always out the front. * Great views of the city. The bar offers great beers from the Schwarz family brewery on tap but all others and a great selection of wines are available There are many great restaurants nearby.
The staff are great and the location is good if you are coming into Central Station. If you don’t need to stay in this part of Sydney I’d recommend somewhere near Darling Harbour, as this end of town is all traffic and not that pleasant. The room was clean and small but fine for a weekend stay. A few things which annoyed me - the bathroom door is opaque glass so if your partner turns the bathroom light on in the middle of the night the whole bedroom lights up. I don’t get it. Also there were strip lights above the bed and window which are green. Why? Another slight annoyance is that the bathroom has been updated (great) but there is no where for the hand soap so it has to live in the basin.
We travelled to Sydney by Train so we did not have our own Transport. The Mercure is close to Central so getting around the City is easy. The room was clean and comfortable. The Bed was the biggest bed I’ve ever slept in and it was comfortable. The Bathroom had soap, shampoo, hairdryer & soft towels . One end of the room was all windows with a great view over Sydney from the 13th Floor. The Staff were all very polite and happy to help with our requests. I would stay there again.
We booked the Mecure for a 2 night daddy daughter getaway. and my daughters birthday. To our surprise the hotel arranged a beautiful chocolate cake and card for our arrival to the room! The friendy staff checked us in at 2pm, an hour earlier then normal. The hotel is located close to the train station, close to Chinatown and all the main attractions (including public transport). The beds were nice and firm (hard to find in most hotels these days), and great to jump on like a trampoline (daughters idea not mine). We both agreed the pillows were a bit hard but its difficult to please everybody in that department. The lighting in the room included LED/disco lighting, providing much entertaining for my daughter lighting the room up lkke a rainbow for much of our stay. The buffet breakfast was excellent providing all diffrrent kinds of foods which was high quality. The main downside was the pool area which was a bit dated and could be improved. Overall a very enjoyable stay, thanks to the Mecure staff. We had a bed design competition too, see pic.…
Short walk from Central station. We had a couple of very loud and energetic toddlers which staff at front desk were very accomodating towards. My best friend even popped in to visit during our stay and even when he was being a complete Karen, staff remained professional and helpful. Really cool lighting in the rooms which entertained the little ones before bedtime. Convenient store right in front. Very handy location. Walk to everything. We were allowed a later check out and had plenty of time to feed kiddies and take for a morning swim in the hotel pool. Nice pool. My only small issue would be that a few pool tiles appeared to have a bit of mould on them.
Stayed here twice in the past month and highly recommend it. Friendly staff in all areas of the hotel including Eves restaurant and bar. Dinner was high quality and staff made our wedding anniversary special. Breakfast was busy but we’ll handled. Being an Accor plus member and having stayed in several different properties, the professional attention to detail was appreciated and noted.
The hotel at $400 a night is dirty and old. Down to the cups in the drawer having coffee residue. It is well overdue for an upgrade, but some cleanliness would serve them well. The carpets were filthy, I was only hoping there were fresh sheets on the bed. Overall avoid avoid avoid.
There is a lot we didn’t like! The service from the minute we walked in the door was appalling! There were 2 staff members talking who completely ignored us and when we were finally served we were told our room wasn’t ready, in fact no one’s room was ready with numerous guests waiting for their rooms at 3pm! Once our room was ready it was not the room we had booked. No queen size bed, no walk in shower, barely a balcony so we had to go back and wait for someone to address our concerns. We were eventually moved onto another floor that had an overpowering smell of paint and a filthy lobby. Then at Eve’s restaurant during happy hour we were charged full price for our drinks by the manager on duty! This could have been an accident however once we corrected him we told our friends to keep an eye out on how much they were getting charged and low and behold they too were overcharged on their next order merely 10 minutes after. Goodness knows how many people were charged incorrectly by the manager! We have more examples we could reference but the point is this place does the bare minimum and is not worth the amount they charge. It’s clear that corners are being cut in all aspects of hotel operations from staffing numbers to room ammenities to hotel cleanliness with an overrepresentation of middle management not contributing or leading by example. Having stayed at the Mercure in the past we expected a lot more than what we received and we will not be returning nor staying in another Mercure or Accor hotel.…
