The staff is one of the best assets of this hotel. From front desk to room service to restaurants etc. The hotel is unique, the lobby looks like the Victorian era. The room is elegant, the wall to wall marble bathroom with double sink is beautiful. The food and service at the Highlander Whisky Bar is great! Just one flaw, when I rang during office hours to book our stay, some of your reservation staff are not very friendly. I'm so glad my husband insisted to stay in this hotel and I can't say no since it was his birthday. Gladly, when I rang during outside of working hrs(11:00 pm, and got a staff who was very friendly (her name is Ingrid). Her friendliness made me officially booked our stay. Highly recommended !!!

For a serious opera house, great hotel experience post a few years I had 2 nights at the Sir Stamford Circular Quay. I have stayed there prior but not for a long long time. Beautiful and peaceful feel but sadly even though got to fabulous Opera House performance = I was ill. But - the room was a wonderful place to have to recuperate. Incredibly quiet, clean, large, lovely bathroom. Could not have done the same at home. So for this I thank you. Even though I had very little food etc. - what I did have via room service was terrific. On the night I went out I ate at the Whiskey Bar, again a very limited diet of steamed vegetables and mashed potato and had a glass of Mudgee Sav Blanc. So - what are the negatives? Cost = oh dear. Breakfast was an inclusive in the package but not for me. No refunds. For a bowl of mashed potato = $15 !!! and so it went. The food was wonderful but ------ seriously? The staff were wonderful so thank you. Checking my booking invoice prior to going at $600 plus and $69 VAT imagine my surprise when the amount I had to hand over as I left - $900 plus. ! I have just discussed with another lovely staff member the intricacies of the amount finally paid. I am still a little confused by the hotel rules and regs but apparently $100 will be back in my account at some time in the near future. ps I did have a kids menu chips and chicken and a couple of fruit desserts via room service but around $100 worth blows my mind. Guess this hotel is waaay out of my reach for any other o/n stays when going to city from Blue Mtns and at 80 yrs of age.

Perfect location for Opera House, Circular Quay and Light Rail. Hotel is in need of a huge refurbishment. Our room was on 5th floor had a great view of Harbour Bridge, 2 very comfortable twin double beds, a huge bathroom. Very friendly staff, nice bar. Overall enjoyed our stay.

I've stayed at this hotel once before and both the previous time and this one were a delight. The hotel exudes a feeling of old world charm and elegance. The staff are excellent and went the extra mile; for example on this last stay they were able to get us in, at last minute to a magic show that was very good. The hotel runs events such as the magic shows and murder mystery nights periodically throughout the year (so go to their website before you book and see what's available). This hotel is one of my favourites in Sydney, close to Circular Quay and easy walking distance to Department Stores. Breakfast was good quality buffet style hotel fare. I couldn't recommend this hotel more highly.

A comfortable, luxurious hotel in the style of some the the grand European hotels. Although it has an old world character, it is very well equipped and functional. Our room was large, quiet, with a comfortable king sized bed. The bathroom was also large and well equipped. Checkin was a bit slow but express checkout is easy. The hotel is very well located for the CBD and the Opera House.

We stayed last Feb for 3 nights, Its like going back in time, old worn carpets, panelling everywhere, furniture from 1950’s, drapes from the 70’s, reception area probably the 50’s…. its an eye opener! The location is excellent 5/5…. but thats where it ends. I wrote my name in the dust of a table near our room, it was still there when we left, 3 days later. Skirtings and panelling in our room were thick with dust, the lamps in the foyer were the same, in all my years of staying in hotels I’ve never encountered anything like it. The swimming pool is a hot plunge pool with an area for seating 6/8 people. We didnt eat in the hotel, although I remember thinking breakfast expensive. The lifts are very very slow, so much so we took the stairs a good few times. Our bedroom was huge but very old fashioned and dark, even though it had a set of patio doors. it did however have a huge bathroom, which was clean, apart from the dust on the panelling and louvre door. How it gets a 5 star rating is beyond me, a 3 at best and thats mainly for location. The hotel seems to cater for a lot of Aussies visiting The Opera House or visiting for a couple of days. If youre looking for somewhere eccentric to stay…. this is definitely up your street, it’d be hard to beat…. defo not the light, bright, shiny, sanitised aura of most large city hotels. Would we stay here again…. possibly…😁😁

A good hotel in a great location. Our first stop in Aus and served us well for the time we were in Sydney. The hotel had good facilities - a large room, large bathroom with both shower and bath, toiletries provided and cleaning services daily. The hotel provided tea and coffee services with the added extra of hot choc. The hotel is situated 5-10 min walk from the opera house and is close to the cities shopping region. Although situated on a busy road, we had a room on the front of the hotel and were not disturbed by traffic. Improvements - • Room was dark and only lit via 3 lamps. Due to being on main road were not able to have curtains open. • Dated decor although in keeping with rest of hotel features • Old smelling room due to dated furniture. Could do with a re-fresh

Breakfast Fee Entrapment / Poor Customer Service: While the hotel itself is great, there is an entrapment for those intending to only have a short stay. For example, upon check-in last week I was asked whether I wanted a breakfast for my two night stay. I advised that I would only require one as I would be checking out early on the second morning and having breakfast at the airport. I was then provided with a small voucher which I immediately placed into my wallet and had breakfast the next morning without the need for the voucher. When I checked-out on the second morning I was advised that I would be charged $64 for two breakfasts, even though as agreed I'd only have one. Apparently because they had given me a voucher, and despite the fact I had clearly advised I would only have one breakfast, they charged me for the two and would not reverse the fee. In fact one of the girls at check-out was quite haughty. To date they have not responded to my subsequent emailed complaint only sending a copy of the invoice using an email address that is undeliverable when responding.

A total misrepresentation by this hotel company of its Sydney premises. Fraudulent glossy advertising beats no reality to the dirty - sub standard tires dated damaged accommodation. The catering is a disgrace the service woeful the leisure facilities & pool are a health hazard and warrant health inspectors to visit. My formal legal challenge saw a refund and other clients reviews support my endorsement of book this hotel at your peril. The shabby expensive premises are a disgrace to the Sydney hotel industry. Its new owners of an investment banking company clearly have an eye on the valuable real estate location more than any investment in the disgusting premises it offers to its customers. Thankfully my uk travel agent saw my video evidence and legal submissions resulting in a refund but after a battle with these shoddy owners of the hotel. The only plus point of our stay was our departure from the Sir Stamford Circular Quays Sydney!
