Detailed Reviews
Our theatre tickets cancelled at the last minute due to covid, so we looked up a last minute deal and headed to Pier One for a 2 night stay & grabbed tickets to The Ashes. Pier One was an obvious choice for us, as we knew from previous stays that it's location allowed us to be amongst as little or as many people as we wanted, without compromising on being out of the city. And no hustle & bustle road noise!
We secured a Drive In & Discover package, including valet parking, breakfast and bubbly on arrival. BonVoy membership saw us with a few extras like 10% discount on food & beverage, use of the app for hotel services including unlocking your door & fast wifi. All aspects of our package and Bonvoy membership were served with a genuine smile. On arrival we were sat outside on the pier, drinking bubbly, whilst room service took our bags to our room and valet parked our car!!! How good!!!
Valet was brilliant. Check-in was flawless. Our Heritage King Room was large, clean and very comfortable. We could peruse the pillow menu on the app, but we were happy with our feather pillows provided. Room temp was great. We ordered a room service platter, outside of peak time, and it was delivered in a prompt manner. Connectivity to our TV (to watch the cricket!!!) was easy. I am loving how Pier One is reducing waste & risk of germs by having everything electronic via phone or TV. Minibar was plentiful & I was pleasantly surprised at pricing. Nespresso machine in our room. We loved the water fairies, who replaced our bedside water every morning, included! Friendly salutations everytime we came & left!
Breakfast in The Gantry was very pleasant. Lots of variety for all tastes. The wait staff & egg chef could not do enough to help us enjoy our meal & experience. Lovely people who genuinely wanted us to enjoy our experience! And a nice touch of Barista made coffee, with every milk & coffee option, included. I hate nespresso, I'm happy to pay for Barista coffee, but all inclusive here!
We loved seeing other guests with their well behaved doggos! Water bowls everywhere!
We will definitely be back! And we'll bring friends!!

Booked a staycation here recently. I had requested for the room and valet parking and explained that it was for a 50th celebration. The staff in reservations and in concierge were exceptional. The communication, both by email and phone, were pleasant and they not only reassured me that everything would be fine but they went above and beyond to ensure we had a pleasant experience and stay at Pier One. In particular, Eugene was so amazing to us. He communicated with me regarding restaurant choices and even arranged for a bottle of sparkling and a dessert plate to be brought to our room to celebrate the special occasion. Our room, the waterview heritage room, was so pristine and had beautiful views of the harbour. Thank you Eugene and the staff at Pier One for making our stay so wonderfully memorable. We had an amazing experience.

We were greeted at our taxi at the door of this hotel by very enthusiastic porters with a smile. This was followed on by first class service at check in. The place smelled terrific and the service was a great start. The restaurant was being worked on, but the available lounge was a nice spot for welcome drinks overlooking the harbour. Our room was lovely. Good bed ( a little low) with nice pillows and the best bathroom products I have ever had in a room. We had a low end room but it still had a cheeky view of the bridge out the window. Everything we needed was there. Our points for improvement came after a few days there, and it would be that the housekeeping was a little lax, and only having free to air tv was a little annoying (athough netflix was available.) The location is good but it is on the low side of the Rocks, so there is a lot of walking required with many stairs unless you walk around the quay. The rocks was a bit quiet so we didn't have a lot of nearby eating options and we found the hotel restaurant menu a little sparse and expensive. Overall, a nice luxurious hotel that rarely scrimps on the important things, and will make you very welcome.

You can imagine our surprise to find that the room we paid $519 for one night had stairs to get from the bathroom to the bedroom with movement detection lights at night over the stairs, that the view in the photos was being very generous compared to the room we stayed in, that there was a useless and very large platform in the room in front of the windows dramatically reducing the usable room space, that there was no hot water for a shower in the morning, a glass of very ordinary sauvignon blanc cost $20 and a Peroni cost $12. Worst of all though is that the hotel failed to advise us that it was being used by the federal government as a Coronavirus lock-down, crawling with defence forces keeping people in their rooms. We do not know if the room we stayed in had been used the previous day for a COVID positive person. Admittedly, we booked into the hotel at 11:20AM to drop the car off understanding that we would not be able to go to our room and came back later in the day to a string of the discoveries described above.
When we first booked in we also booked the hotel restaurant (Gantry) for the night, the booking was taken then denied the next day on the basis of it not being open, "would we like to make a booking for the following night" when we had booked the hotel for just one night? The lifts on the first floor on one occasion would not respond to a call so we had to get the staff to help. The windows in the room were absolutely filthy and because of the construction in some cases two layers of windows = two layers of filth = reduced view. The bed was fine but the bottom sheet needed adjustment to stop it coming out. This hotel is basically a taxi ride from anywhere so you will need to either walk in the rain or factor in the taxi costs.
There was no clock in the room and no facial tissues.
Breakfast in the morning, cost included in our room charge, was slim pickings, no buffet, just a choice of five or six dishes made to order. Please see the photographs. I had the three egg omelette with cheese and ham at $19.50 on the menu and was just OK, no great shakes. Service for breakfast was virtually non-existent except for the individual chasing us because they could not remember our room number to charge it to.
This is rated as a five star hotel but in keeping with every Marriot I have every stayed in I won't be back. It became clear that it was a Marriot when we turned on the TV to find it labelled Marriot Bonvay.
I keep promising myself I won't be caught by a Marriot again but it keeps happening.

Hi KenGAtOz, Thank you for choosing to stay at Pier One Sydney Harbour, and for taking the time to provide feedback to us. Our Guest Services Manager is attempting to reach you personally to discuss your feedback points further, as your satisfaction is paramount to us. We are supporting the Australian Defence Force and do currently have personnel staying with us. This includes soldiers currently working in Sydney, as well as personnel who have already carried out 14 days of quarantine overseas and tested negatively for COVID-19. The ongoing health and safety of our guests and associates remains our top priority. We have elevated the hotel’s already stringent cleaning processes, and have an approved COVID-Safe plan endorsed by the NSW Government. Thank you again and we look forward to speaking with you soon.

I never thought I will experience unchanged bed sheets at such a “high-end” hotel. We checked in at Pier One after new year just for one-night stay. For years we heard good things about this hotel but the real experience was quite the opposite. For start, while we wait for our room, we had lunch at the bar. Our order came very late because the staff messed up our order with others. That’s fine, things happened and we didn’t have to wait too long afterwards. Then when we ready to move into our room, everything felt weird.
First, there was still grease on the bathroom sink and the towels were folded but loosely stacked on top of each other. I went, hmmm, maybe I’m just too picky.
I could be bothered to ask them to clean the bathroom as I just wanted a nap. Then as I pull out the bedsheets, I saw food stain on the sheets. This time, I had to call reception to clean the whole room properly.
Cleaners showed up thinking I stayed in the room overnight and just needed a change of sheets and towels. I was speechless by that point. Then before my partner put in his shoes before we left our room, we saw the same food stain on the bottom of our socks. We then realised neither the floor was cleaned nor vacuumed. Bedside tables on both sides of the bed were covered in dusts.
You think our ordeal should end here after the hotel organises the cleaner to clean the room. Well, NO. We waited in the lobby and were told the room is ready and that they are sorry about the incidence and would pay for our breakfast tomorrow. That’s nonetheless a goodwill gesture.
So here we go finally ready to have a sleep. We opened the door and bang, we hit cleaner’s cleaning suite. The room is still being cleaned and ironically there is a sign on the door saying “beautification on the way”.
We eventually just ended up laughing and wonder how bad can this hotel gets. Anyway, we were eventually moved to another room and that’s the end of the matter.
If your company is paying you to stay at Pier One, by all means do stay. It has the best location. If you are spending your own money as a tourist or if you just want a staycation, don’t waste your money here. This is a tired hotel that couldn’t care less anymore.

Hi Timoz2020, Thanks for taking the time to review Pier One Sydney Harbour. We are genuinely so sorry for your less than wonderful service experiences you endured during your stay. We have clearly missed the mark with regards to our housekeeping services and at Bar One which is not the norm at Pier One. Our team are usually recognized for the warm and genuine service so this is alarming to hear. Timoz2020, again we are so sorry for your less than wonderful service experiences, we take this very seriously and are following this up with the team. Thank you for your valuable feedback. Booked a one night stay in the admiral suite. Checkin was fine, and all my marriott bonvoy benefits were mentioned.
I found the hallway leading to the room a little run down. Many scuff marks on walls and doors and no upscale feeling whatsoever.
Suite itself had an incredible view- easily the 2nd best in Sydney after the Park Hyatt.
The suite itself felt fresh, and newly refurbished except for the bathroom floor which desperately needs new grouting.
My phone was not operational and had to visit reception twice before maintenance came to fix. Even then maintenance spent about 20 minutes tinkering and then leaving without saying a word. I tried to call reception shortly after and my phone still wasn't working.
Went back down to reception to be told my phone line was faulty and nothing could be done today to fix. I asked if I could call anyone from my mobile to order ice and room service etc and was given a mobile number to call.. Would have been nice if u was told this and proactively offered a number to call from the beginning.
The bedroom has perhaps the most illogical lighting setup of any hotel I've stayed in. Despite pressing every button in every conceivable combination I couldn't switch off the lights under my bed and I couldn't even close the sliding door to the bathroom without it opening. My sleep was ruined by the fact it wasn't a dark room.
Despite going downstairs and showing photos of my lighting under bed and doors opening no assistance was provided other than to be told it would be passed onto management in the morning.
Was really looking forward to my shower in the morning with my 2 rainshower heads and side jets. I need not have bothered- hot water could only be supplied to only 1 shower head, with the other freezing and the side jets tepid.
Morning management brushed these concerns off as being due to the heritage nature of the hotel. I beg to differ.
Overall some of the plusses of this property is a great bar, extensive mini bar and beautiful location.
Perfectly nice hotel but I don't think I'd put my faith in it again for a special occasion where things should be seamless or rectified quickly when they aren't.

The hotel was beautiful, but as soon as I was trying to check in the front desk was asking if I wanted a 300 dollar “upgrade”. That’s not an “upgrade” - its the same options they were offering online when I made my booking. As a Marriott bonvoy member I was quite disgusted at how aggressive they were in trying to have me pay more something I could have booked myself in the first place. I also got a bacon and egg roll in the morning and was charged 42 dollars for it, I think that this hotel has a lot to offer am is very nice but the service is extremely pushy and.unnecessarily aggressive - I would not want to experience this again. Even though I paid with points, I ended up paying a ton more cash than I ever wanted to. The staff need to be to trained to treat their customers with more respect than they currently do.

Stayed for two nights....28 and 29 December 2019 in the Admiral Suite. This was not a cheap exercise at $1600+per night and having to pay extra for a second rate breakfast. The public areas on the ground floor were ok though a little tired looking. Restaurant food for dinner was hit and miss.
Our room was on the second floor and there was no sign that the corridors had seen a vacuum as the same bits of rubbish hadn’t moved during our stay. The same could be said of our room. A draw in our bathroom contained a previous guest’s medication and oral hygiene products and laxatives! One shade blind did not have a lower weight and just had a ragged edge. The beer in the fridge was warm and so unable to finish.
With such a wonderful location and fabulous views we would have expected a lot more for our money

Firstly, like many of the other reviews, there is no notice that the hotel is being used for ADF COVID personnel until after you arrive, and only if you ask. The room was great and a massive bathroom with plenty of hot water and room to spare. Checkin was quick and easy, Rosie was wonderful. It is pet friendly, so lookout for agro little dogs with stupid owners, 1 almost got dropped kicked into the harbour when it tried to bite my daughter. Breakfast menu is very limited but substantial, the staff though seemed very busy considering there were only 6 people eating. For those who complain about location, the nearest pub is about 4 minutes walk and the rocks only 5 minutes walk. Id stay again, but only once these COVID stuff is over.

Checking in was very welcoming by Sri he was most professional and helpful.
Complimentary wine was awesome however it didn’t negate the fact the hotel level 3 was for Corona lock down travellers.
The price was expensive considering the heightened risk factor.
I booked for a harbour view room only to realise the view is 3% of a bridge with a prison cell like window. Thankfully I was changed to a Walsh Bay view room.
Quite a distance to anything and the hotel is not in walking distance to anything.
Nil sauna nil ammenities really. Your paying $$ basically for a room which staying at i is for half the price would have been better views and closer to civilisation.
Even though breakfast was included and we only ate there 1 out of the 2 nights we stayed the end bill was for over $80 for two ... quite pricey and nothing to elaborate about.
Staff were friendly no fault there but poor management.

Mount Maunganui, New Zealand509 contributions191 helpful votesI’m looking to book for next year. I would like a room with water views and big window. Which is the best room to book for 2people..? If I wanted a balcony what room would I book as an option ?
Ask the hotel, but we had room 219 and it had a small balcony, but just a foot deep to be able to open the glass window and stand there to look out. Harbour view, but not of the city and bridge. The other side.
Yes all areas are accessible and their is a lift
Hi there, there is 1 Hickson Suite on each level - ground floor, level 1, 2, and 3. They all have high (floor to ceiling) glass windows/doors. They do not have balconies or patios. Based on your priorities of a great view, we would recommend Harbour View Suite. If you'd like to discuss further please contact our reservations team and we can ensure you find the right choice for you!
Hi! yes we have Uber available, and our concierge can assist with any bookings or recommendations about what to do in Sydney.
