If you’re in AS and haven’t been before then that in itself will be an eye opener, so some consideration of what to realistically expect when looking at accommodation when you’re in the middle of a remote area is warranted. A lot of people use AS as a base and travel on tours etc whilst others will be travelling through and staying a short while whilst spending a lot of time in a caravan/camping/Motorhome. Putting it simply - if you expect the heavens to part and the city to fall at your feet you’re gonna be disappointed, accommodation included. Even the likes of higher end name hotels will probably seem underdone to people accustomed to metropolitan/capital city/international level service and presentation! FACILITIES Elkira was perfect for what I needed, namely a clean, private space with a really good air conditioner (a modern one), the bathroom was generous size and the water pressure was solid. No qualms with hot water in the desert though at one very brief period after check in the water had been temporarily shut off for some quick repairs - of which was immediately communicated prior by staff. Some rooms have a kitchenette. Mine did not however it was pretty damn close to it having a microwave, kettle and a fridge with ample space for storing stuff in cupboards. Really good sized rooms if you’re wanting to bring stuff inside that you don’t want sitting with your car (even with closure of gates in the evening) PARKING is on the limited side - I only had a hire car briefly but for those with a camping setup etc definitely suss out if there’s room. COMMUNICATION was EXCELLENT throughout - I wanted a quick rundown about the obvious things people worry about, those being where to eat, what attractions and tour mobs to check out and most of all safety concerns. SAFETY There was absolutely no BS about what AS can be like, and it was made very clear that the hotel gates close at a certain time and require code access. Failing that the mobile number of the owner is clearly found on the reception area doors and it was encouraged to call if any concerns arose. I did not feel threatened or unsafe at any stage despite what could be at times described as somewhat raucous activity around the area. Common sense applies as it would anywhere else. LOCATION The location is very central which is fab if you don’t have a car. Kmart is across the road and Coles is in the next block. Expect to see a lot of activity, especially if you wander down a bit further to Uncle's (very popular pub that attracted to Diplomat hotel). Good grub and seriously good people watching. Elkira has been around for a long time and the outdoor appearance is neat, tidy and should be enough to indicate that yes it’s an older motel! It’s generally a fairly quiet spot but at times you will get occasional loud vehicle/revhead/inebriated person noise. Walls aren’t the most soundproof but I had no big issues. HOUSEKEEPING were great! Do note that they start early eg around 830 so if you like to sleep in out your do not disturb tag on the door :) the housekeeping trolleys will make noise as they go past but people are often up already or on a tour! They were always checking to see if anything was needed and I always had a bed made when I got back from each day. I opted to not have daily cleaning because I didn’t require it though did ask for a change of towels midway through the stay. FOOD was not part of the accommodation facilities due to COVID/seasonal but there’s a BBQ which is awesome ($2 coin will get a good 45min BBQ time). Pool was chilly but will be nice as it gets hotter. Plenty of recommendations for food from staff! LAUNDRY is $4/load and a decent sized laundry facility. Clean safe and simple is what you get here. No nonsense and honest owner whose had other businesses in town (including a pub at one stage) so they are a valuable source of information! Only thing I’d add was that the bed was a little firm but easily sorted with my small camp mattress I carry in my hiking backpack! TIPS: 1. If you have a lot of luggage a ground level room may be better because you need to otherwise go up flights of stairs to a balcony room 2. I had a balcony room and really liked it 3. You can actually ask for grey/brown coloured towels if you’re worried about how much dirt shows up on white towels! Thought this was awesome!! 4. Don’t be afraid to ring the after hours number - the owner really emphasised this (people forget keys and codes…..) 5. Parking is tight. Ask ahead of time. 6. You’re in the outback. Don’t forget that.

The best thing about this motel is the location as you can walk to many parts of Alice Springs, unfortunately it’s downhill from there. Ask to see the room before you part with your credit card. Although the room provides most of the things you expect from a motel, the whole place is out dated. Our beds were very uncomfortable as the mattresses and pillows had no support and looked about 30 years old. The shower was in the bath which shows how long it is since the bathroom has been updated. Outside areas needed cleaning and the pool area was not inviting at all. Parking was a nightmare every evening after we came back from having dinner.

Elkira Court motel is centrally located in AS, close to Thrifty car rental, Stumpy's very good cafe and providing easy getaway to tourist places. Motel is old and showing its age but rooms are clean and well appointed. Secure parking is offered although spaces are limited.

I have stayed at this Motel years ago and must say the improvements are very very good HOWEVER rooms down one side and I dare say many upstairs would be battling to find car parking space. Almost had to search for wife who went away to search for parking. However must stay the room was very good, bed comfortable etc etc.
